I was told I need a new rack & pinon due to leakage with less than 92,000 miles on the vehicle. I bought the car used just 2 years ago and had all regular maintenance records from previous owner & dealer service. Have had regular service since purchasing it - which is how issue was discovered. Will cost over $1500 to repair. Upon doing some investigation on-line, I see I am not the only owner experiencing this in under 100,000 mileages.

The pre-collision system was unexpectedly activated for no apparent reason. Travelling on the interstate in light traffic on a clear, sunny afternoon, the car brakes suddenly activated, seat belts clinched with no warning sound. This has happened twice in the last year (coincidentally, it occurred at the same area on the interstate). The car was taken, both times, after the incident for inspection at the dealer. The service department was not able to replicate the issue or find any problems. For me, this is a serious safety concern. Sudden unexpected severe braking could result in a major rear-end collision.

My Lexus has under 20,000 miles on it and it has been garage kept and not seen winters. My dealer just told me that the steering gearbox needs to be replaced immediately. This car is in perfect shape and has hardly been driven. If there is a problem with this, Lexus should be paying for it, not me. The quote is for $1450.
My car never leaked oil, and no sensor lights were on. Regular maintenance was performed on the car. While I was driving on the freeway on cruise control about 70 mph (2,000 rpm) engine suddenly revved up to 3,000-3,500 rpm. I was able to exit the highway within 0. 25 miles, the oil pressure sensor came on at the end of the exit ramp. I drove approximately 100 yards away from the exit ramp to reach a side street and by then the car was barely moving, it was very difficult to turn the steering wheel, and several other sensor lights were also on. I had the car towed to a service garage that told me the oil coolant lines had leaked causing the low pressure condition in the engine. After the technician replaced the oil cooler lines and performed an oil and filter change they found "large quantities of metal shavings in oil filter cartridge indicating internal damage of engine. " severe internal engine damage has occurred and engine needs to be replaced. In my experience, it seems that a large quantity of oil was lost very quickly, and if I had not been able to exit the highway within a matter of seconds the car could have seized up and I could have gotten in an accident.
I had my foot on the brake pulling into a parking space when I felt a quick acceleration surging my car forward, locking my steering wheel causing me to plow onto a parked truck. I had to be towed to repair shop. Steering became difficult.
April 11,2017 took my car in for an oil change and was told there is a leak in the power steering rack. Cost $1800. No warning.

We noticed a squeaking noise while turning the wheel while in motion on 12/19/16 and we told the dealer ray catena of NJ and they took the car to their shop and told us they found the problem with the wheel and it was fixed. On 1/16/17 we noticed the noise again when we turn the wheel and we think it is unsafe to drive the car. We asked the dealer to replace it. VIN your email has been submitted. The contact owns a 2016 Lexus Rx350. The contact stated that the steering wheel would lock without warning and the vehicle would pull to the right. The power steering warning indicator illuminated. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
During vehicle service, I was told that the rack of power steering is leaking, which costs around $1500 for replacing power steering rack. After looking on line, I found this is a common problem for RX 350 with low mileage . This is a safety issue Lexus should recall and to fix the problem.
Steering became difficult to steer vehicle. No injury or accident occurred, but I was surprised that this went out.
During routine oil change at Lexus dealership I was informed that the steering rack was leaking and the entire rack needed replacing soon as it poses a safety issue. Learned this is a very common reoccurring issue with this make/model/year and validated as such on-line. Estimated cost of repair that I was quoted: $1,678. 85. Due to the potential safety issue and number of occurrences I do not see how this is not a recall issue and that the cost should be the responsibility of the manufacturer as it is obviously a manufacturing defect.
There was a torn power steering boot on the rack. The torn should be there for a while. I purchased a 100k miles warranty when I bought the car but the Lexus dealers never mentioned or pointed out about the damage until the 100k miles warranty ran out. As soon as the warranty ran out, I got informed that the power steering boot on the rack got torn and it will cost me $1600.
The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Rx350. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver when making a right or left turn. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack leaked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
During vehicle service today, I was told that the rack of power steering is leaking. I was charged $1750 for replacing power steering rack. After looking on line, I found this is a common problem for RX 350 with low mileage . This is a saft issue Lexus should recall and to fix the problem.
The car completely halted while driving on a city road. The steering locked and the car completely stopped in the middle of the road. The manufacturer inspected the car. During inspection they found a/c compressor locked up causing vehicle to stall under load. Once the a/c system is activated, vehicle will stall out. They also confirmed that this could happen while the vehicle is in motion on a highway going 60 mph and if it did, it would stall the car and lock up the vehicle just like it did in the first incident. It seems completely unreadable to stall a vehicle in motion for some confirm/convenience feature like a/c. I feel this is a fundamental engineering problem with the way the car is designed. I would like to ensure this is declared as an issue with the design of Lexus vehicles and there is a trigger to disconnect ac under such circumstances where ac can stall a car in motion.
While being serviced for brakes for 3rd time , dealer noticed torn/leaking rt front boot. Appears to be a major problem with this car. $15 part, $475 labor. Fortunately this was covered due to 3rd party extended warranty but with the number of complaints and TSB's on this issue, the dealer should have covered. This negligence shouldnt happen on a premium brand, this will be our last Lexus.
We took our Rx350 in for a 60k mile service and was told the power steering rack was leaking and required replacement. Since the vehicle is no longer under warranty we had to pay full replacement value. We had no evidence of a leak in our garage and encountered no steering issues prior to the service appointment. This should not be considered normal vehicle wear and tear. Since this is a know issue, Lexus should do the right thing and compensate anyone who had to pay for this defective part including labor. Lexus is known for their dependability and this type of issue should not be passed on to the consumer. The total cost of the repai was approximately $1,200 which is much cheeper than many of the war stories published in-line. .
I was driving in the passing lane at about 55 mph. The road was straight and level. The road was covered with a thin coating of slush. While driving the alarm signal began beeping. I took my foot off of the accelerator. The car then began drifting to the left, in the next few seconds the left wheels were 2 feet over the left lane. I tried to get the car back into the lane but the steering did not respond. A few seconds later the car began to drift to the right and rotate to the right. I then applied the brakes but they had little effect. Eventually the car slid off the road to the right stopping about 75 ft off the road, down a 20 foot slope. I believe that the stability control system failed to control the vehicle and did not provide adequate protection in this accident.

Power steering rack leaking. This is a problem with all Lexus RX models 2007 at least. This should be repaired under manufacturer warranty due to the number of reports for the same problem.
I took my car in for regular service a couple of weeks ago and they recommenced several things, including replacing the power steering rack due to a leak. I got a second opinion before replacing it and they said it seemed very odd to have that at such low mileage. I therefore did lots of research to see if I was just unlucky and have found many people that own a Lexus or Toyota have had this problem at such low mileage. I have only ever taken my car to be serviced at Lexus as they state needed, and therefore do not believe that this problem should be happening and think it's completely unacceptable I should be responsible for paying for this. If this is a safety concern (my car did not pass inspection due to it) how can Lexus not recall the part after so many incidents?.
My Rx350 was in for 60k maintainence service. I was informed of the power steering oil leaking. No dropping of oil was noticed on the parking floor at my home. Technician informed that the oil reservoir was almost empty. I had a platinum warranty that just expired and was asked to replace the power steering rack at my cost of $1800. I was told by the Lexus technician that about 30% of RX-350 2006 seem to have this issue within 5 years of in service date and Toyota/ Lexus id not pay any concern for the safety of the owners. I cannot imagin that I am driving on the freeway at highway speeds running without oil in the power steering. Please review and advise all owners of this failure and ensure Lexus recalls and fix this issue for all owners. This vehicle is now in zionsville of indiana.
My Rx350 was in for 70k maintainence service. I was informed of the power steering oil leaking. No oil was noticed on the parking garage in our condo . The service technician said I should replace the power steering rack at a cost of $1800. He said the boot was starting to leak but at this point I said I would not replace but monitor. Still evaluating the power steering oil reserve and looking at other options for repair. $1800 is way too much to replace this and based on what others are saying this is happening too often on these vehicles.
My 2007 Rx350 was in for 50k maintenance service. I was informed of the power steering oil leaking. No dropping of oil was noticed on the parking floor at my home. I was told by the Lexus technician that about 30% of RX-350 2006 seem to have this issue within 5 years of in service date and Toyota/ Lexus id not pay any concern for the safety of the owners. In Dec 2011, a reputable Toyota dealer performed a re-alignment because the steering was pulling to the right. The car was fine for a few weeks. In Feb 2012, the steering started pulling again. Again to the right. My concern is that something basic is wrong with the steering/alignment mechanism.
I was driving my 2009 Lexus RX 350 down a major surface street when my power brakes and steering went out. I attempted to drive again after moving to a side street, and my steering and brakes went out 2 more times, I then had my vehicle towed to my Lexus dealer. They could not identify the reason for the problem.
I have a 2007 Lexus Rx350 and when I make a right hand turn, the steering wheel does not come back to center and continues to pull right unless I pull the steering wheel back myself. The first time it happened I was traveling a slow speed and almost drove off the road since it caught me off guard. The problem has continued at various speeds. I brought the car in to my Lexus dealer last week and they replaced the steering system and charged me nearly $2000. I have not experienced the issue since Lexus replaced the steering rack. The issue sounds identical to a recall I heard about today on their 2009-10 LS 460, LS 460 l and LS 600h l models.
Vehicle will at random begin to pull to the left.
2007 RX 350. Consumer states problems with installation of running boards on vehicle the dealer was unable to produce the running boards after eight months of the consumer making calls to them. In July 2007, the consumer began experiencing problems with the hazard lights and sensors. On several instances, the tire light would illuminate.
