One of the tires was losing air due to a side wall plug that was installed by the dealer without the consumer's knowledge. The tire was replaced. (goodyear tire) . Consumers CO-worker noticed that the tire was low, air was then put in the tire, however it was then discovered that a finishing nail was embedded in the sidewall, the vehicle was taken to the goodyear dealer, and the mechanic kept the tire for a few hours to perform a test, he then stated the nail did not go through the tire and it was not necessary to patch or purchase a new tire, on Monday June 24, 2002, consumer noticed the tire was low again, the vehicle was taken back to goodyear, and the mechanic stated he would investigate the tire further, the mechanics discovered that the tire had a sidewall plug and stated that it was not recommended to repair the tire in that manner or even drive with that type of repair, a new tire would need to be purchased because it was illegal to patch or plug in the sidewall, the dealer claims that they never plugged or patch the sidewall. Sidewall came completely off the tire. Mileage on the automobile at the time was 6,000 miles. Tire has no worn treads, nor has there been any accidents or incidents involved that would cause this to happen. (tiresize: p215/60r16).
