Lincoln Mark Viii owners have reported 3 problems related to defogger controls (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have been reviewing the file on Lincoln mark 8's '97 & 98 and noticed that there were at least 10 complaints about the ventilation/heating/a/c blend door problem with this car. How many complaints does it take until you do something about it???? this is not only a very expensive repair to make, but failure, which can happen without warning, results in windshield fogging and inability of the system to clear the windshield . The Lincolns of distinction club, which supports mark 8's have had over 30-40 failures to date, some repeatedly. We now found that this failure happens in Lincoln town car/ taraus, etc, and that Ford has recently changed the replacement part designation. This strikes us as an acknowledgement that they are aware of the problem, but don't want to belly up to the bar and admit it . Can't your offices do anything or is this just a waste of our time trying to get a government agency to move on something that they claim they want to assist but ends in frustation of the citizens who take your charter seriously?.

There is a part in the heater/defroster on the Lincoln Mark Viii that is prone to failure causing loss of heat or a/c for use in defrosting the windshield. This part has failed repeatedly, and as quickly as 1 year after replacement by the dealer. I purchased a 1997 Lincoln Mark Viii within in the past month from weisleder Lincoln Mercury, among the problems with the vehicle was there was no heat. The dealer repaired the the blend door, but I am concerned that this repair will be necessary again in short time because the construction/ design of the part is poor.

Failure of blend door actuator on 1997 Lincoln Mark Viii which results in failure of hvac. This prevents defroster from functioning to clear windshield of fog or ice thus resulting in a safety hazard due to poor visibility. This part failed in may 3, 2002 and was repaired at dealership by replacing the part. The part has failed again in decemdber 12, 2004. This part has failed twice within a little over 2 years and less than 32,000 miles since it was replaced in may 2002.
