Body Problems of Lincoln MKT

Shortly after leaving my home, I pulled onto the local road that takes me to the freeway. At this time I had noticed a pattern on the front panel of my panoramic sunroof which I had initially believed to be ice, as that is not uncommon for the environment I am in. Momentarily after this, I had merged onto the freeway where a cracking sound became prevalent. It was then when I realized there was no ice on my sunroof, it was the glass beginning to shatter. I immediately pulled over, as safety became a very imminent concern. After analyzing the front panel of the panoramic sunroof, I had attempted to take the vehicle off the freeway for further action as there was no major pieces of glass missing at the moment. After pulling off, the glass had suddenly completely broken, causing a very loud sound and a rush of air. It is important to note that there was zero impact made to the glass previous to the incident. This is a known issue from the Ford/Lincoln manufacturer in regards to their panoramic sunroofs that I happened to become a victim of.

2014 Lincoln Mkt, approx 80,000 miles, excellent condition. For the second time in two years now our factory installed panoramic roof has spontaneously exploded. First incident was January 21, 2020 and the second was July 15, 2022. Both times my husband was driving on the freeway and heard a loud explosion, sounded like gunshots inside the car. Both times the sound startled us so badly that a jerk reaction nearly sent us into the freeway wall. Glass shards raining down into the car. Upon researching I have come to know that several Ford and Lincoln models from 2008-2015ish have had this same exact issue. This glass shattering issue is a serious design flaw from the manufacturer that is going to get someone killed one day. Not only having glass flying off of your car while also raining down on you while you are driving, but the sound of the explosion is seriously shocking and terrifying. Also, because the design of the panoramic roofs have been modified it is very difficult for Ford to find replacements for our model. The first time we had to get a rental for over a month because they could only find a used part, which our auto body denied. This time our car has already been in the shop for over a month and our auto body has had two defective parts sent to them and Ford is now saying it could be another 60 days or so before finding another one. We are so scared to continue driving this car that once we get it back we are going to have to sell it. I am going to just have to pray that whomever might buy this car will not cause damage to themselves or others when the roof shatters next time. Lincoln/Ford needs to step up and either recall the vehicles with faulty design or come up with a permanent solution rather that just replacing a part they know is dangerous. They need to be held accountable before someone is seriously hurt or dies. (I have included several screen shots of other people reporting the same issue. I have way more than was allowed).

November 21, 2021, while driving on the hwy at about 65 mph, the forward panoramic moon roof exploded. Simply exploded. Not hit by anything - no cars or trucks in front of us. Thank goodness, we had the interior part closed, or it would have exploded all over us. This was a very loud explosion! thank goodness I did not lose control of the car.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Lincoln Mkt. The contact stated while driving 25mph the front driver side door opened randomly. The vehicle was not taken to local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. Dl.

My 2014 Lincoln Mkt panoramic roof exploded with no warning while driving. Ford is claiming this is a repair for which I need to pay. I believe this is a dangerous defect that needs to be recalled. There are several documented instances of this happening with the 2014 lincon Mkt. I was driving 20mph and turning when the roof exploded.

19 Jan 2021 - front moonroof glass exploded out at 69 miles per hour with no other vehicles around, no debris around, on i65 southbound at approximately 8:00pm and 61 degrees. After glass exploded outward, residual glass then fell on my head (bald), down my back and seat (crouch) area and barely being able to maintain the vehicle.

While traveling out of state, the latch on the passenger’s side door would not latch. Doing a quick google search, we found that in 2015 and 2020a recall was issued for a broken pawl spring tab. We did not own the car in 2015 and never received a notice for 2020. Since the door was unable to latch, I had to physically hold door while my husband drove down the interstate. We contacted our local Lincoln dealership and scheduled an appointment to be inspected. We were advised that we would have to pay for the repairs and to contact Ford. Ford was contacted and advised that the extended warranty had expired and they were not responsible. We never received a recall notice. We have appt October 8 with Lincoln dealership to be repaired since you’re unable to drive car without door flying open.

I was driving on the highway around 70mph when my sunroof exploded. There is a lot of people reporting the same issue, but unfortunately Ford/Lincoln doesn't take any responsibility and it's obvious that is a defect and really dangerous for people in the vehicle.

We believe the moonroof shattered while sitting in our garage. I left with the vehicle and had not noticed anything until my daughter asked where the cold air hitting her face was coming from as we started down the road. I pushed the button for the interior panel to open, and as it began opening we saw shattered glass everywhere. Nothing fell on this at all. The glass appears to have buckled and shattered. This is a manufacturer defect that Lincoln needs to address.

Driving down the highway the moon roof makes a loud popping noise then shatters.

While driving down the freeway, the front portion of the glass panoramic roof shattered without receiving any impact. There was a very loud "pop" and when I pulled over I discovered the glass was completely shattered. Nothing to my knowledge impacted the roof.

I have owned this car for less than a year and the moonroof has shattered on me twice already. The front one to be exact, both times it was raining but normal rain, I live in northen California. No objects hit my car and no accident. It sounds like a loud gunshot near you and its very scary I almost caused an accident because I swerved to next lane due to being scared of the loud noise. First time I was on my way to reno and I had to keep going but it was hell and one of the worst experience of my life. Part of the glass flew off within minutes of me driving so rain got into my car. I had to tape a tarp down with gorilla tape to get to a safe destination. There was glass inside the car and my little brother got cut on his arm, this glass is thick and heavy! the second time was 8 months after I had it repaired. Raining again but this time I was at a stop light when I heard the gunshot noise and I immediately knew what happened. I was scared but so very upset that it happened again just months apart. It's very upsetting that Lincoln has not recognized this as a defect on this vehicle. I have read numerous blogs as on here the same complaint from people all over the us that this has happened to. It's so unsafe to drive and upsetting because I really love the vehicle other than that huge defect. On top of that this repair is costly, glass alone is $1400-1600 without labor in my area. I hope that Lincoln will soon take responsibility and I plan to keep fighting this fight as I have a feeling this will continue to happen. I feel so unsafe driving this vehicle now. I really hope more people complain and speak up.

My moonroof shattered with no reason as I was pull from my driveway. Outside temperature 28 degrees not even cold for a chicago. I was driving no more than 15 miles and no hard brakes or bumps just suddenly cracked all over.

Panoramic sunroof exploded while riding down the highway. Without any warning we heard a loud explosion like a gun had been shot inside the car we immediately noticed the glass cracked in the moonroof and noticed little bits of glass all in the car and on the driver and passengers, I had my grandchildren with me and they were terrified. I was able to stop when I found a safe place and called my husband to come get us. I have been informed by the dealer and Lincoln I would need to file the claim on my auto insurance. After researching this online I have found numerous complaints on this issue and Lincoln has not issued a recall. This matter needs to be looked into ASAP before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Panoramic glass roof suddenly broke off when driving. No cars ahead of me, glass just exploded like my car was getting shot. A loud boomm, when stopped the car to look at it, the sides of front panoramic glass roof was broken on the both side and all cracked in between. Now, one day after, roof has a big whole in the middle. After a research online, there are many cases like mine that have happened on same kind car, so this seems a manufactory issue to me. And this is a safety issue, which someone could have gotten hurt inside. Thank god my inside cover was closed. Hope this issue can get resolved.

Vehicle was on I-78 on a clear day with a temperatue of 75 degrees at a speed of less than 70 mph, no bridges, no rough pavement. All of a sudden the fixed panoramic roof (forward panel) shattered caused a loud bang. Sounded like a tire blew out! no evidence of a rock or other material striking the panel, no body damage, just the roof panel. Luckily we had the sun shade panel closed so we didn't experience any glass shards falling on us.

Traveling down the road 4/16/17 on a clear 78 degree day and the front vista glass roof explodes into pieces. No other vehicles around and no explanation as to why the glass shattered. Shards of broken glass came into the passenger compartment onto the driver and almost caused an accident.

The contact owns a 2013 Lincoln Mkt. While parked for approximately nine hours, the vehicle caught fire on the driver side tail light housing. The owner extinguished the fire. The fire department arrived after the fire was extinguished. A report was filed by the fire department. There were no injuries. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

07/04/2016, driving home from 4th of July fireworks at approximately 1030pm, speed 55-60 mph, temperature about 65, heading west bound on straight route, with my husband driving, myself as passenger, and three minor children in the 2nd and 3rd row. (note: no cars around, no external issues, no previous cracks in glass. ) boom sounds like a riffle just shot at my car. Pulled over into local markets parking lot. The entire back panel of the cars moon roof is spider webbed and completely shattered with chunks coming out. I had to unload my children into separate vehicle for their safety for it looked like the entire roof of my car is going to collapse in. My husband examined road at the point of explosion and the vehicle once we got into our garage. There was no signs of any foreign objects or logical reasoning for the sunroofs explosion.

While parked in front of a hotel for about 10 minutes with the engine running and the windows up, the forward half of the glass roof exploded outward with a loud bang. Luckily, the sunshade was closed so no glass fell directly the passenger. There was no impact, no extreme temperature, absolutely nothing that would cause this to occur. . . Date of occurrence: 3/31/2016 time of occurrence: 7:18am temperature at the time it happened: 50 degrees fahrenheit physical location: kent state university hotel, 215 s. Depyster st, kent, OH after searching the internet, I found so many people that have experienced similar breakage. . . Indicates that there has to be a defect in the design or possibly the tempering of the glass itself. While there was no danger in my situation, it is easy to see how this could cause an accident if it occurred under different circumstances. I feel this definitely needs to be addressed with the manufacturer.

We are a limousine service while driving down the highway, the glass roof exploded for no reason, no other vehicle were around.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Lincoln Mkt. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the turbo gas line leaked exhaust fumes into the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the engine remained on after the vehicle was turned off. He also stated that the passenger's side door handle was broken, making it unsafe for the passenger to hold on to, for support. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who claimed that the failures could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures but did not help. The failure mileage was the 100,125. Fe.

I just got 2015 Lincoln Mkt livery package on 07/14/2015. I found the sunroof screen fram has a crack in four places. I belive this may cause the screen to drop to my passengers or cause injury. I take it to the nearest Ford service center they sayed they don't belive it is safety issue.

The large tempered glass roof panel of the panoramic "vista roof" on my 2010 Lincoln Mkt shattered without warning with a loud, frightening explosion while driving 65 mph on the NY thruway on November 30, 2014. The panel was not displaced, although small pieces of glass fell onto the head liner. Luckily, the sun shade was closed at the time. It was a miracle there was not a serious accident, given the volume of traffic at the time. Research discloses that similar events have happened numerous times with other Lincoln automobiles.

This is car number 307, we are a livery company and this is car 3 of 5 (so far) to have the sun roof spontaneously shatter out of 18 cars purchased (all 2014 Lincoln Mkt's. ).

When driver door side close the ajar door remain on. Need to close couples of time but still not resolve a problem . When I went to auto repair shop same problem for every 2013 Lincoln Mkt .

The contact owns a 2013 Lincoln Mkt. The contact stated that the rear panel accumulated water, which caused the rear passenger side tail light bulb to fail. The dealer stated that the entire rear panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The incident occurred in a parking lot, in bright daylight at 4:05 pm. The Lincoln Mkt was being driven on an errand to a shopping mall. The driver made left turn, and stopped for another vehicle backing out of a parking spot. On proceeding to make a right-hand turn into the same parking spot, the vehicle traveling slowly, there was a bump/or jerk and the vehicle accelerated on its own. This is the point of the unintended acceleration, inspite of the driver using the brakes, the vehicle accelerated over the sidewalk and continued into the wall of a cvs drug store. The wall stalled the vehicle, the driver put the vehicle into "park," hit the stop/ignition button and exited the vehicle. Police and fire department responded, the police officer did not file an accident report. There were no injuries only property damage. He interviewed the driver and observed the car stuck in the wall of the cvs store. He was present for the exchange of insurance and drivers' information. The fire dept ensure safety of the building after the vehicle was removed. The vehicle was tolled to the Ford dealership for inspection and repair. Their dealer's mechanic did not find a computer record of an "error message. " on hind-sight the had been a previous low speed bump followed by a surge in acceleration but this occurred at an intersection with a stop sign, the driver did not attributed this as mechanical because the car was moving. In the 12/18/12 accident the driver was trying to stop the forward progress and the Lincoln Mkt would not respond.

The contact owns a 2013 Lincoln Mkt. The contact stated that the battery drained completely and there was no access to the trunk. The contact stated that there was not a mechanical override to open the trunk. The vehicle was taken to several dealers and the contact was advised by each of them that there was no remedy for the failure because the vehicle was operating as designed. The dealer then referred him to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and referred him to page 79 of the owner's manual, which explained how to override the system. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 900 and the current mileage was 13,000.
