After starting the car from a cold (65 degree) condition, the display showed an error message "electric power assist system malfunction" and I observed no power steering. The wheel was nearly impossible to turn. Turning the car off and restarting it rectified the problem but I'm concerned that this problem could occur while I'm driving and cause me to drive off the road due to steering failure. Indeed, after researching the subject online, I found other owners of Lincoln Mkt's, it's twin Ford flex, and some fusion models have reported the same issue and some have even gone off the road, although no injuries resulted. I also learned there was a factory recall for this issue involving Mkt's until model year 2013, and other models, but my car is a 2014 and it obviously has the same problem. I'm very concerned about this safety issue and am disappointed that Ford motor company did not include model year 2014 in the recall. Please investigate the problem and demand the fmc recalls these models as they should. Thank you.

While making a turn onto highway my electric power steering completely went out with cars turning next to me. It yanked the wheel out of my hand almost causing a crash. Then a window appears in ly car saying your steering has failed pull over safely . Little late for that. After getting car to dealer and waiting I searched and found electric steering recall from 2015 some 400k cars. The same year mine was built. Dealer says no but its the same exact problem.

Expand recall 15v340000 & 15s18 (loss of steering) this is the 2nd complaint filed in less than 2 months for this 2010 Mkt. The 1st was on 12-24-15 in which a complaint was made on this site and is viewable, but have not received any feedback as of yet. Lincoln covered the first repair in which they discounted my findings of the steering recall when I presented them with it. So they diagnosed it and confirmed loss of steering due to a failed steering angle module sensor and a software upgrade at a cost of $400. Well, here I am again with the same exact problem, loss of steering going around a corner on 2-12-16. Again, luckily there was nobody around and it happened at night because I ended up on the other side of the road doing 25-30mph. Also the warning lights on the dash started to flash- "service power steering now" & "service advancetrac". This is obviously the same problem that the other years have and are listed by VIN under the recall but Ford/Lincoln refuses to accept responsibility and it will unfortunately take someone to get injured or killed for them to do so. This time around the diagnosis is the steering assembly, recalled on other years, (ca5z3504a) needs to be replaced at a cost of $2300 originally, reduced to $2000 after arguing with and going back and forth with Lincoln for days, and they will cover $1500 of that and we are stuck with the balance. I am filing a second complaint more towards the safety issue than the $500 we have to pay. There has to be other people out there with different years not covered under the recall and I am reaching out to them. Other vehicles included in this recall are Ford fusion, taurus, flex, Mercury milan and Lincoln Mkt, mks and mkz. I am hoping someone looks into this closer and other people file complaints.
