2 Transfer Case problem of the 2011 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 04/26/2019

Have owned this 2011 Lincoln Mkx awd approximately one year. During that time I recall about 4 times during this period, when going from a coasting down the hill mode on surface streets, to placing foot gently on gas pedal as leveling out and or starting up a slight incline, a loud, jerking slam has been heard and felt. Enough each time that I thought I had been rammed from behind by another car only to find there was no car behind me. The car would then continue on as if nothing had happened. The most recent time I encountered the "slam" was the evening of wednedday 4/24/19. This was the same situation as previously noted, when going from a coasting mode to driving with foot lightly on accelerator, a loud slamming noise was heard and felt. Last Friday, 4/26/2019 when driving on a 35 mph zone, it sounded as if something had gotten stuck under the car, sounding like a dragging branch, or a dragging brake caliper. We checked under the car and looked at brakes. Backed car up and heard a faint metal sound, then drove forward and heard the dragging sound again. Rather than risk driving the car further, had it towed to the dealership where it was diagnosed with a a problem with the power take off/transfer case. It will have to be repaired/replaced as a high cost.

3 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 07/12/2018

I just purchased a 2008 Lincoln Mkx in March. The car ran great until I went on a road trip in the beginning of July. I drove about a couple 1000 miles. My last day of my trip on July 12 my car started acting up. It had a hard time shifting between gears. I would push down on the gas peddle and it took it a long time to accelerate. I finally made it to my destination. I turned off the car. When I went to start it back up it started. But when I out it in drive it wouldn't move, nor in reverse and could not get it in to neutral. Had it towed to a shop. Where after further examination to transfer case went out int turn ruined the transmission. Never a sign that anything was wrong until that July 13. I talk to the shop that says he has fixed 3 other Lincolns with the same problem. If you look online there are tons of complaints about this same problem. Seems to me Ford needs to recall both the transfer case and transmission. Now I am having to put more money in it then its worth. The total cost for repair and labor is $6296. 22. If it keeps happening to other people over and over with the same problem then Ford should have to be held accountable for selling defective product. I hope something can be done, especially since this as nothing to do with the driver but the manufacturer who has made a faulty product.

4 Transfer Case problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

My Lincoln Mkx was having unusual loss of power issues while driving for some time. In mid-September, I discovered a thick, black fluid leaking from the car. On inspection by a mechanic, the problem was with the transfer case and a complete replacement of the transfer case was required. On further research, I discovered that this is a common problem, known to Ford/Lincoln mechanics, with the 2007 and 2008 models of the Lincoln Mkx and Ford edge. I understand the problem was corrected with later models.
