Lincoln MKZ owners have reported 103 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Lincoln MKZ based on all problems reported for the MKZ.
Lugnuts are stripped and swollen at only 60k miles. An improperly seated lug nut could result in the tire coming off at high rate of speeds posing a safety hazard. The dealer found and confirmed the swollen and stripped lug nuts. Lincoln dealer is the only entity who has serviced the vehicle while in my possession. After speaking with advisor, they said this is a common problem - indicating Lincoln is aware of the issue. After researching, many Ford and Lincoln owners are filing complaints, and lawsuits over this issue and Ford is denying them. This indicates Ford and Lincoln are aware of the problem. Part was inspected by the manufacturer, Lincoln. No warning lamp, message, or symptom indicating the problem. Last service appointment (approx 5100) miles ago did not indicate any issue with the lug nuts.

Car stopped without warning, then "check engine" came on. After waiting several minutes, it started again. We were in a very heavy traffic area and turned right to get to where we staying when the car stopped without warning. Fortunately, no car turned behind us or we could have been killed or injured. We were staying at a timeshare in weston. Fl. And tried to find a Lincoln dealer but to no avail. We decided to leave for our home in fort myers on February 16, 2022 (staying off i75) taking back roads and the car stopped again without warning , then, "check engine" , we proceeded as did previously and made it to gallaway Ford/Lincoln in fort myers,FL. Where it is now being inspected. We own a 2012 and a 2015 Lincoln and have never had a problem. We purchased this 2013 Mkz last February 2021 from gallaway Lincoln.

Driving on the highway with the cruise control on and the vehicle will slam the brakes on for no reason. Usually coming up on an overpass or a shadow in the road. Have to hit the gas pedal to disengage/override the system. Have taken the vehicle to the dealership to has checked out. Nothing was found wrong.

Fcim failure causes ac unit to activate randomly. Windows can fog without warning causing an unsafe driving condition. Also, from youtube videos - this defect can also cause rear windows to lock/unlock unexpectedly (I have not yet experienced this).
2017 Lincoln Mkz had the "auto hold" on and the car came to a complete stop at an intersection with a red traffic light. One other vehicle was in front of me and we had been stopped for at least 30 seconds. Without notice the Lincoln Mkz quickly lunged forward and struck the vehicle in front of me. I kept applying the brake but the car would not stop, it kept hitting the car in front 3 times before it stopped. Auto hold button was still illuminated. The car was then turned off. The person in the car in front of me stated that they thought I was hit from behind and pushed into their car. I also thought that I was hit from behind and pushed into the car in front. There were no injuries. If I would have been the first car at the light, chances are my car would have been t-boned. I have not driven the car since the incident. No warning signals were given prior to the incident. I would like to have the edr , black box, evaluated to determine why the auto hold malfunctioned. Air bags did not deploy. The car is scheduled for service on January 10, 2022.
Vehicle has turned of twice while driving. Had to coast to the side of the road. Very dangerous situation. No warning lights illuminated. Vehicle has an appt on Nov 1, 2021 for further inspection.
Driver's side door lock will not unlock from inside of car. This is a safety factor in the event of an accident. Not able to open door from inside - had to roll window down and open from handle on outside of car. Vehicle was stationary. Note there is at least one other report of this happening on your web site and youtube has several videos of others having this problem and how to replace the handle when this happens.

1) every used miz I test drove had a super hard jerk out of first gear including the one I purchased, I was told it was fine, went to another dealership and was told the transmission clutch was gone, repaired under warranty. 2) gas tank door spring failed, saw its a common problem with Ford Lincoln vehicles, dealer replaced entire door housing sleeve, not covered under warranty, had to be installed twice after coming out after incorrectly installed. 3) front headlights lens spider web cracking. When purchased I saw small stress cracks at top by hood 3 to 7 months later entire lens/globe housing look like shattered glass but still in tacted, not covered under warranty, now passenger light starting to look the same. Only had the car 13 months. Dealer service rep ask do I drive car alot or drive in the rain, I was shocked. 4) rear trunk tail light across entire back end full of moisture. Not covered under warranty. Every since 2007 this seem to be a common problem with every car I had to poor designed product that consumer have to pay for and shouldn't. It will cost thousands of dollars to replace.
While driving around 40 mph a ding and then red triangle appeared with message to safely stop, felt as if engine completely shut down with no other warning. I have already had one air bag replaced and now have been informed the driver side needs to also be replaced so this is not a good time for car engine to shut off in middle of driving. Thankfully not on interstate. This is not the first time something similar happened with brakes and power steering locking a few months prior to this. I can't get appointment at dealer until mid may but was told there were no problems like this reported. I do see on a complaint website where it has been reported by quite a few people so it would seem to be a problem. I would say if you were on interstate this could be cause of a deadly crash and then to have the airbag recall on top of this. I am at least hoping they will have an answer to fix as I'm scheduled for a road trip in July, but I would never drive this car and feel secure with this issue not being resolved. This for sure should comply for a recall.
Due to the open recall without a known solution, I am unable to ensure the safe use of my vehicle for my family and my business, and have lost income due to this problem.

Ac on right side stopped working, right door stop locking and later the left door stopped locking.
Like 2,000,000 other Ford and Lincoln vehicles already under recall, my driver's side door latch is defective. Yesterday, when I went to open the door, the handle swung open without opening the door. After doing some online research, I found this is an extensive problem affecting Ford and Lincoln vehicles manufactured between 2010 through 2015. Please expand your recall to include the 2011 to 2012 Lincoln Mkz's in addition to to 2013 through 2015 Mkz's already under recall.

If you are on a hill such as a driveway and you turn your car on to accessory mode and then forget your car is not turned on you can put your car into gear. If you put your car into reverse and the car starts rolling it is difficult to stop it because you have no power on the brakes and cannot turn the steering wheel because it is locked. This is very dangerous. There may be a child behind a car and it will roll back until you can get it turned off. I don't think you should be able to put the car in drive or reverse when the car is not turned on and your foot is on the break.

There is a thump when the car moves forward or back from a stop. Sounds like somethings lose and is shifting back and forth.
I went to start my vehicle no power at all. . Weird nothing ever happened like that before. So I get aaa to give me a boost. I get to my destination. Go to get back in my car and leave. Car dead no power at all. Get towed to the dealer. Battery check was good. They couldn't find out the problem. Then the car would get jump started but wouldn't turn off when you press the button only the auxiliary things would power off. The dealer is telling me it's water damage but how? it's garage kept. .
For the second one time in a month my locking mechanism on my 2014 Lincoln Mkz hybrid. Ford is recalling vehicles of the same year for the same problem and the dealerships say my VIN number isn't part of it. 2 door latch replacements is 800. 00. This is ridiculous when other vehicles the same yet make and model as mine are acceptable for the recall. I opened my door and now the latch won't stay closed. It opened while I was driving.
Driver came to pick me up. Driver stopped, he thought he pushed park button. Started to get out of car. Got left foot on ground, swung right foot out and car started rolling backwards. Car door knocked him down, catching left foot between door and frame. Car started dragging driver down street in reverse. I had to run around door, put car in park. Driver dragged between 5-10 feet(est). Driver ended up with fractured left ankle, 3 broken bones in left foot, abrasions on right shoulder and left elbow, hematoma on right leg. Car was on a village paved street, in reverse instead of park. It was dark , the driver thought he pushed the park button but evidently put the car in reverse by mistake. Car started rolling when he took right foot off brake.
Door latch defective. I had a defective latch replaced by Lincoln dealership one year ago. This was the rear drivers side door. On 7/11/19, my passenger side door latch is now defective. I contacted my Lincoln dealership and they explained my warranty is not valid, therefore, they will not cover the cost. I contacted Lincoln customer service, recall department and they too said they would not cover the 2nd defective door latch, due to no warranty. They explained they understood this is the 2nd defective door latch and this door latch issue is part of recall. However, my VIN# is not part of recall, but my make, model and year are included in recall.
The inner door handle asy doesn't open from the inside.

Car will not start because of electrical computer and when it does start the car stalls when out on the road or highway putting my family or myself at risk of injury or death. I called Lincoln hotline and they refused to pay for the repair after it had already been to a dealership for diagnostic they couldn't figure out what was wrong and said it was fine then went to pick car up and it wouldn't start. When home to get spare key still same problem. I live in the country and all Ford dealerships are far away from me so not convenient to keep running back and forth for a repair they (Ford motor company should have taken care of. Let's be clear they know there is a problem and refuse to fix it. Talked to 2 people @ 1 800-241-3673 and the flat out told me they will not pay for the repair. I've had the car stall in an interesection and on the highway several times . Sometimes I have to turn the key switch 30 40 50 60 times or more to get it to start. The TSB from Ford motor CO. Says that when changing the battery in the 2007 Lincoln Mkz it will cause a problem with the ecm the brain causing the problems I described. I even told them about stalling on the highway and they still refuse to pay for the repair. They did fix my air bad out of warranty but won't fix this . I find this unacceptable and refuse to pay for it out of my own pocket. Can you help please affected cars would be 2007 Lincoln Mkz. Mercury milan and Ford fusion. I'm sure it not an isolated problem. The problem started last year 2018 I don't remember the exact date I will put in the date box below the date Ford motor company/ Lincoln refused to do repair free of charge.

My sync software on my Lincoln Mkz won't update because the apim is defective. Ford/Lincoln previously provided a 5 year warranty extension on this component. This defective apim causes my volume to either turn all the way up or all the way down, no in between. It also causes the music from my phone to play on my phone speakers rather than the car speakers and also randomly disconnects my phone. The five year warranty expired about one year ago but I feel like this should still be covered because it causes a safety hazard when my phone disconnects and I have to attempt to fix it so I can utilize the hands-free phone features.
Vehicle suddenly dies when driving without warning. I purchased the vehicle one month ago. Brougt it to the dealer for the bolt recall and stalled while dealer was trying to pull it into the bay. After that point, the vehicle died while drivng on numerous occasions. Went to the mechanic one two occasions and no codes pulled. Called dealer and they said I needed to go to a Ford dealer. Went to Ford dealer one code pulled (fuel injector) was replaced recommended I change transmission fluid and replace battery which I agreed to. Forty minutes after leaving dealer as I was oulling out of a parkign lot the car suddenly died again almost causing me to be hit by a box truck behind me. The car is back at the dealer and once again no codes are coming up and they said they cannot duplicate the issue. Went onto Mkz forums and this appears to be a problem not addressed which is causing a significant safety concern for both myself and others since there are no answers to why this is happening.
In under 4 years/50k miles battery has been changed 4 times. Every time the cause is a bad battery and not a draw. There is an underlying issue with the Mkz electrical architecture. Dealer says this is a common problem.
Takata notice and dashboard where airbags are. Fash is splitting and dealer said can't be fixed. Have to order and pay for a new dash. I received a class action notice about airbags. Dealer checked and no recalls I concerned.
No discerning issues leading up to the tire failure, it's been multiple failures, induces by potholes or road grates you would normally encounter while driving. In 2 incidents the sidewalls of the tires failed completely ripping the tire sidewall open. One simply just flattened the tire, as of now, the shop is closed today so I don't know if it's repairable yet.
Car unintentionally accelerated and crashed brakes failed while attempting to turn in a driveway.
The driver door pops open when the car is in motion and has been doing this since I bought it 3 years ago in may. But apparently it isn't a recall. I'm actually scared to drive it the car had 54,000 miles and 59,000 5 thousand miles in three years. Can max said it would be repaired free of charge they lied. This is a problem and I've talked to other Mkz owners who say they fixed the car and paid for it.
Drivers front door latch does not return to latched position.
There is an ongoing problem with the dashboard bubbling. The padded vinyl covering separates from the underlying hard surface. As a result the defroster grill separates from the opening. This renders the defroster suspect and if not inoperable. The results it the vehicle defroster will not clear the windshield of frost or condensation creating a severe visibility issue. The vehicle then becomes unsafe to drive to it's occupants and to other vehicles on the road.
Driver's side door lock will not unlock from inside of car. This is a safety factor in the event of an accident. Not able to open door from inside - had to roll window down and open from handle on outside of car. Vehicle was stationary.
Car door opened in traffic with baby in carseat, threw the car in park. Door latch broke.
The floor mats would get stuck on gas pedal it happened when driving.

Takata recall I contacted my local dealerships service department. They verified my recall. They explained that the parts are unavailable. I am concerned because the airbag light is on every time the car is running. I also have a recall for the carpet inserts. I have had many instances where my shoe get stuck on the metal piece near the chair.
The sunroof on my car randomly exploded while driving down the highway.
