7 Steering problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

Vehicle began to feel as if it was losing the ability to get any power to the engine. I would push the pedal to accelerate but even fully compressed the vehicle would not go above 30mph. I attempted to drive the vehicle in to be inspected at a dealership and while on the way the steering wheel completely locked and an emergency light appeared on the dashboard stating "safely park vehicle". It was a horrifying experience to be driving in traffic and lose control of the vehicle but luckily I was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road to safety without crashing! although the vehicle was fully powered, it would not move and I had to call aaa in order to get the vehicle towed to the closest aaa approved facility which was autoworks diagnostics & repair in kittery, me. They observed fluids had leaked out but were unable to locate where the leak was coming from and very loud noises that appeared to be coming from in between the engine and transmission . After researching online they found that there were two recalls involving the welds on the torque converter detaching from the engine. They also found a recall on the front brake hoses rupturing & leaking brake fluid as well as a recall with the steering wheel retaining bolt loosening & detaching while driving which could also have contributed to the issues experienced with the vehicle and the safety concerns associated as I was driving in traffic and lost total control of the vehicle which could very likely have caused a major accident! unfortunately none of these recalls have been associated with the VIN connected to this vehicle and the manufacturer; Lincoln, to this point has refused to discuss any of the issues having to do with the four recalls being associated to my specific 2017 Lincoln hybrid premier 2. 0l gas engine with 6 speed transmission although this specific year, make & model has each of these reported recalls.

19 Steering problem of the 2012 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 05/02/2024

I became the owner of a 2012 Lincoln Mkz hybrid in 2016. At first there was no issues. Roughly a couple of months later, there was a power steering issue- so the car was driven to Ford with great difficulty where they reset the sensor or something and the power steering was working again. Now a couple of years later, the problem occurred again. The power steering chime came on, the car read “service advancetrac” in yellow and “power steering assist fault” in read, accompanied by the wheel stiffening. I pulled over turned the car off and back on, and the problem went away. It occurred several more times and turning the car off and back on remedied the problem. It would only occur every couple of months, but more recently it started happening every couple of weeks and now- the last ten days it has happened every time I drive. Each of those times, with the exception of the most recent occurrence, turning the car off and letting it sit for a couple of minutes, followed by turning it back on, solved the problem. The most recent time, I was traveling on the highway going 60 mph when the messages appeared and my wheel stiffened. It terrified me as I was moving fast on a southern California highway where there are hundreds of cars. I was on my way to take a final exam, that I could not miss, so I kept driving. Steering was near impossible at low speeds. I went in to take my final and three hours later, when I turned the car back on, the power steering still was not working. After hours of research and years of dealing with this problem, I have found that there was a recall regarding the pscm in the 2012 Lincoln Mkz. I am unsure if this problem extends to the hybrid model, and if so whether it was remedied by a past owner, but a detailed vehicle history report indicates that it was not. I have never received any notice as to this recall. I do know that my car was manufactured in the applicable time period (2011), and that it is experiencing exactly what the recall describes.

22 Steering problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKZ

Steering wheel is wobbly and loose.

23 Steering problem of the 2012 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

While driving I noticed that at times my steering wheel would be difficult to turn. At first, the problem seemed small until I was trying to make a left turn on a very busy 4-lane road, and without warning the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. I narrowly avoided being hit and ever since then, the steering has not been the same. I sought help at my nearest Ford dealership and after they inspected the car they determined that there was a problem with the steering assist and possibly the rack and pinion. We then discovered that the very same parts were recalled in 2011 for the same make and model car. I was never notified of any recalls and I asked why I was never contacted. The Ford dealership did not know why. According to them the vehicles that were recalled were vehicles that were made at the same facility as mine. They pointed out that normally my car would have been included in the recall and they did not know why I was excluded. I have attached the documentation they provided me proving that my car was built in a factory that had other cars recalled for the same reason. Currently, they are telling me that they cannot honor this recall because my car is not in the system as one that should be included in this recall. Due to the near misses that I have had I believe that this is a serious safety issue and should not be something that I pay over 2000 dollars to repair. Especially since all the other vehicles that had the same problem were recalled and repaired for free. Please help me figure out how to hold them accountable for not notifying me and refusing to honor the safety recall. Nhtsa campaign number 15v340000.

26 Steering problem of the 2014 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 07/30/2023

The steering wheel on my 2014 Lincoln Mkz almost came off while driving. An internet search yielded information that there was a 2018 recall on Lincoln and Ford vehicles with the same problem. I took my vehicle to the local Lincoln dealer for repair and asked them to find the recall. They told me that it had not had a recall and refused to fix it based on the recall, but at my expense. The specifics of the recall (Ford reference 18s08) were that it was for 2014-2108 Mkz manufactured in the hermosillo assembly plant in mexico. Research has shown that my Mkz was manufactured in the hermosillo assembly plant. My complaint is that the recall was for an identical year, make and model in the same manufacturing plant and common sense would tell you that there was a manufacturing defect, but that Ford/Lincoln did not capture all the affected vehicles. This is a serious and dangerous problem. The steering wheel almost came off in my hands 9 years later. Lincoln should be required to identify the vehicles manufactured in that facility during that time period that were not identified for recall and contact those owners for repair at their expense. I contacted Lincoln corporate recall center and while somewhat helpful with information, they were totally uninterested in my suggestions.

35 Steering problem of the 2014 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

At different times, while driving at a low speed my steering wheel will not turn. Additionally, all these random drive assistance system lights are reflected on the dashboard. I believe it's the electric power assist system that has a recall with the 2014 Lincoln Mkz not the Lincoln Mkz hybrid. For example, hill start assist not available, check adaptive headlamps etc. This started December 1, 2022, and has been an on-going issue. I have to restart the car in order to continue to drive.
