1 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2012 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

Drivers side rear brake light malfunction. Lights are led construction containing 3 elements. 2 elements have failed. This repair costs$400. 00 because the led's cannot be repaired. Lincoln has extended coverage on 2010 and 2011 Mercury milan and Lincoln Mkz models . This is called 14m03 tail lamp assembly extended coverage. They have extended coverage on these models to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I believe the 2012 models such as my current car should also have been covered because the 2011 and 2012 Mkz is so similar. Further loss of brake lights is a serious safety issue especially because of the extreme expense that is involved in replacing two tail light assemblies and a center light assembly were all three to fail. I believe use of led lighting should be warrantied for the projected life of the car due to cost. My vehicle was not damaged. The light simply failed due to manufacturing of design issues.

2 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 03/05/2016

The passenger side headlight allows water to leak into it and therefore shorts out electrical items. So far I have had issues with my battery, the starter fuse, and the tail light fuse. Replacing the headlight assembly is the only way for me to have taillights again on this vehicle. I was almost rear ended on the freeway one night because my taillight fuse shorted out during the drive. The water in the head light accumulated over time, so I cannot pinpoint exactly when the seal broke, but there is no repairing the seal. I've been on many vehicle forums and have had discussions with many owners with the same problem with their passenger side headlight collecting water.

3 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

I was informed by friends following our vehicle that the driver side red brake light will illuminate with no change in brake pedal feel at nite when all the car lights are turned on. This I believe is a safety issue since drivers following our vehicle will not be aware when the vehicle itself is braking. Contacted a Ford dealer who informed us that the cost to correct this problem would be $534. 00 (the whole tail light assembly needs to be replaced and is not covered under the extended warranty. I researched whether this was a recurring problem with Ford vehicles and found that a technical service bulletin dated 11-11-10 was issued and NHTSA # 10042506 applied.
