"clock spring recall" my air bag exploded when I started the vehicle and put it in drive. Vehicle filled with smoke, received gashes to my left arm and watch was blown off my wirst. Had car towed to Ford dealer. They determined crack in wire on clock spring caused the air bag to explode . Ford recalled f150's and Lincoln mark lt for the clock spring and paid for damages on a Lincoln Navigator that had the air bag explode just like my experience due to the clock spring. Refer to NHTSA id 10569242. Ford motor CO has denied any help for damages.

12 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

I have a 2004 Lincoln Navigator and when it gets too cold the airbags have busted on me and the compressor. I have owned this vehicle for 2 years and 2 years in a row each winter my suspension has failed. My wheels are riding right under my tire wall and it is going to cause me to have an accident or cause further damage. At $1000 to fix these they should last longer than 1 year. Please look into this and recall our vehicles, the air suspension is supposed to provide a smoother ride not a rough winter.

14 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

2006 Lincoln Navigator was parked. Entered vehicle and inserted key in ignition. I cranked the vehicle, sat back to have the car warm up. About 5 seconds after cranking the vehicle, air bag inadvertently deployed without incident. Car was filled with white smoke. Contacted local Ford/Lincoln dealership and was told they had never heard of a vehicle airbag deploying without incident. Contacted Ford/Lincoln corporate office and they offered to pay for the diagnostic at local Ford/Lincoln dealership. Diagnostic revealed no accident data, and a defective clockspring mechanism in the steering wheel. . . . Same problem as previous recalls in 2006 Ford f150 and Lincoln mark lt, which obviously share parts with my vehicle. Ford/Lincoln offered to pay for the repairs, less a $200 deductible because, as they stated my vehicle was not covered under the recall even though it's the same problem that other vehicles were recalled for.

16 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

While driving north on ar hwy 9 a few miles south of malvern, arkansas with my wife in the front passenger seat and my son in the second row directly behind me, a loud bang occurred. In the next moments I realized the side curtain air bags deployed on both sides of the vehicle, a smell like fireworks became immediately apparent, and the driver's side sun visor was destroyed and hanging down directly in front of me at an angle. I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and stay in my lane of the two-lane highway and slowed down. After shortly realizing what happened, I looked for a place to pull over, did so, and took my pocket knife and cut away the side curtain airbags to be able to see out of the side windows and continue our trip north. I found the driver's visor vanity mirror had shattered in pieces in my lap and on the floor, along with other parts from the visor which now hung down at a steep angle. Both the driver's side and passenger side front seat belts were damaged, and the driver's seat belt upper anchor would no longer stay locked in position, sagging to its lowest position by gravity. Later that day I discovered that the map lights and passenger side visor vanity mirror light no longer worked. I took the car to the local Ford dealer near where I was staying, who told me that it (air bag system) was no longer covered by warranty. I then made an appointment with my hometown dealer to further resolve the issue, and also instigated a case with the Lincoln customer relationship center to see if they would help.

17 Air Bag problem of the 2002 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 08/31/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Lincoln Navigator. The contact was driving 50 mph when the side impact air bag deployed without warning. As a result, the contact sustained an injury to the ear drum. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics but the dealer was unable to determine why the air bags had deployed without the vehicle being involved in a crash. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer sent a specialist to inspect the vehicle. The specialist advised that a faulty component in the air bag caused the deployment. The manufacturer stated that they would not provide any assistance for the repair. The contact stated vehicle was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was unknown.

19 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I own a 2004 Lincoln Navigator. I have had problems with the air bag suspension system since I have owned my vehicle. What happens is when it gets cold the system fails to operate causing the vehicle to drop down on the tires. Ripping them from under the vehicle, it destroys the tires and could very easily cause an accident. I have had to replace the tires many times due to this issue. This winter alone it has been in the shop at lease 6 or 7 times. This system is no longer in use on the new Navigators. Ford has issued no recalls and will not assist me in getting this issue resolved. They said unless they are forced to deal with this by the NHTSA , I can no longer afford to spent thousands of dollars to resolve this issue which is clearly a mfg problem. Everyone I know who owns a Navigator with this system have gotten rid of them. Mine is paid for and I can't afford another vehicle.

20 Air Bag problem of the 2005 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/26/2008

Vehicle was involved in a crash. All the airbags in the vehicle deployed with the exception of the drivers airbag. Passenger airbag deployed with no passenger in seat. Driver suffered crushed spine and legs, along with head and facial injuries.

21 Air Bag problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/03/2008

While driving in a parking lot a car pulled out in front of my 2003 Navigator as I hit the brakes I felt my SUV drop from the front. The tire skidded and I hit the car that was pulling out. After the accident my truck was never the same . It was taken to the dealership but they said the warranty would not cover it. I have a 40000 dollar truck just parked in the driveway for the past 6 months I know mechanics that can convert it to to springs suspension for about 400 dollars but that's not the point I paid top dollar for a piece of you know what. I drive a 2000 Nissan with 170000 miles on it and haven't spend a dime on it besides tires.

22 Air Bag problem of the 2000 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 12/28/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that the rear air bag suspension kit is deflated. The motor appears to be shorted out. He stated that the air bags appear to wind back up, but then move up and down while driving at various speeds, as if the motor was attempting to position it correctly. The contact went to the dealer, but they would not repair it for free. The dealer is charging $2,500 to inflate the air bags. There was no impact or failure with the vehicle itself. The current and failure mileages were 110,000.

25 Air Bag problem of the 2002 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 09/10/2004

I won a 2002 Lincoln Navigator on an ebay auction and paid $19,000 for the vehicle via direct wire transfer through my bank. The Lincoln Navigator advertisement represented the vehicle as "like new in every way", "our mechanics have inspected this truck and found everything to be in excellent working condition" & "options: driver & passenger airbags". The vehicle is in poor condition. The airbags were deployed and not replaced. Radiator has two holes in it, the manufacturer warranty is voided, keyless remote missing, cd magazine missing, owners manual missing, floor mats do not match, numerous scratches, dings & nicks. I was told it had climate controlled seats and it does not. I was also told that the seller is a private party. Unfortunately he is a dealer thus I will have to pay sales tax of $1,064. I have corresponded with the seller via email and telephone numerous times. I have asked him to buy the vehicle back from me or pay for the repairs and he says that he does not have the money. All-in-all the seller's misrepresentation of this vehicle will cost me $8,647.
