1 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2008 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

While driving on the highway the brakes were applied to slow the vehicle. When the brake pedal was depressed, a loud grinding noise and pedal shudder was felt. Brake power diminished, and the anti-skid light illuminated. Once off the pedal, the car coasted for a few seconds. The brake was applied, and the system went back to normal. Ford is unable to find an issue with the system or duplicate the event. Abs was not engaged in this situation. Gradual brake pedal pressure was applied to slow the vehicle, not come to abrupt stop. However, the car was unable to slow due to the malfunction.

2 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2008 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 12/07/2009

My brakes will fail without any warning. I will be driving and all of a sudden my brakes won't work. The anti-skid light will go on along with grinding noises. It feels like I am pressing a stake down through rocks as I press down on the brake pedal. During this time, I have no control over the brakes and I panic that the car will not stop. After a few seconds, the brakes work once again. I have taken the car into the dealership multiple times for this issue and they have never been able to fix it. The situation keeps happening. The most recent occurrence was in January, 2012. I am very scared to drive this car. I have been very fortunate that another car hasn't been close by when my brakes have failed.

3 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2007 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 10/29/2008

Purchased vehicle as a cpo on 9/27/08. Vehicle was left at dealership to replace navigation system failure. Took physical delivery and drove home on 10/4/2008. Low tire pressure warning light came on after 15 miles leaving dealership on way home(none of the tires were low on pressure). Returned vehicle to dealer to have system checked and light reset. On 10/29 mileage on vehicle was 19,758. Vehicle was being driven by my wife on a flat city street in laguna hills CA approximately 10 am approx 40 mph and the day was clear and warm. She applied the brake pedal to slow down and the brake pedal was hard and would not depress and the vehicle would not slow down and a grinding noise came from the front wheels and the front end was shaking the anti-skid light came on (while she continued to press down on the brake pedal) and the brakes did not engage until the vehicle traveled approx 100 feet. The vehicle slowed and she pulled into a parking lot at a slow speed and it happened again. Towed to closest dealer. That dealer found no problem, and no codes showed up. Took it to dealer that sold the vehicle to us. They can't replicate the problem, but are still researching.
