Driving slowly on a suburban street at twilight the headlights and dashboard lights went out. The same thing occurred a three times week later on the interstate at 65 mph about 10 p. M. The automatic delayed headlight off setting no longer functions. The lights can be turned on in the manual position. Apparently, the light control module has faulty relays which fail suddenly during the course of normal use.

I was traveling at 9:30 pm when the headlights went out for about 45 seconds and then came back on. Traveled about a mile, when they went out again, can on, then started rapidly flashing. I pulled over and it about a minute before they returned to normal. This happened three times that night before I arrived home. These headlight problem has happened five times since the first occurrence. I rarely drive at night. . . Updated 06/26/14.

Began to notice that the headlights would flicker. At first it was almost unnoticable. Got progressively worse until I am reluctant to drive after dark. First told there was a recall then after checking VIN was told did not apply to my vehicle. Then was told that part was recalled for Ford crown vic and merc grand marquis. Probably the same part. There seems to be a significant problem and mine should be covered by a recall. Was also told that being built in canada could have been reason for recall refusal.

Headlights and dash panel cut of intermittantly while driving on smooth pavement for past 10 years. I have had dealership experience this but they could not find any problem. Also, the speedometer shows car speed at 100 or more mph when starting car but goes to normal when moving. I just replaced the motorcraft alternator with a rebuild version and the speedometer problem is gone. Can't be sure that the headlight issue is gone too, but this seems to be the magic fix. I'm wondering if a batch of intermittantly defective motorcraft alternators were oem since this seems to be a problem for others. It is very scary to be driving 55 mph and have the headlights cut off for a short time. Months go by and nothing happens; then there it is again. I was thinking that the car was haunted. I still have the old motorcraft alternator but I will return it to autozone to get my core back unless it can be used to determine it is defective. Over the years I have spent a lot at repair shops and the dealership trying to locate the cause of this. At the suggestion of the dealer service manager, I replaced the speed sensor twice over the years to "fix" the erratic speed at startup but without any change.

The contact owns a 1998 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that the coating on the rims was wearing down and prevent air from remaining in the tires. As a result, she must constantly place air in the tires. The tire dealer stated that the rims needed to be replaced. In addition, the head lamps have to be replaced for the second time because they hold condensation, which shorts out the electrical system. Lastly, the seat belts stick and are difficult to use properly. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 102,000.

There is a very high number of vehicles of all types on the road on which the headlight lenses have become foggy or yellowed as a result of uv or chemical age. This results of loss of headlight range, clarity of vision and glare to oncoming vehicles as the result of scattered light rather than focused. I have experienced this problem on my 1996 Lincoln Town Car and cleared it up to some extent using fine polishing cream but lens is not left clear and is getting more foggy as time passes. I consider this a hazardous fault and believe that all such headlight lenses/assemblies should be recalled and replaced.
While driving down a narrow highway, using the high beams, the headlight system failed (no dash lights or headlights). I was using the autolamp system. I pulled to the side of the road, and tried to manually turn on lights to no avail. After waiting a minute with the car off, started it back up and headlights came back on. This happened again several times as I tried to get home. The 18 amp breaker for the lighting system was very hot. I traded the 20 amp circuit breaker from the power locks/windows system with the 18 amp breaker on the lighting system, and drove home. It did not act up again. I will try replacing the 18 amp breaker and check the load on the system with a multimeter.
While driving at 65 mph headlights failed. Consumer used the hazard lights while stopping on the shoulder of the highway. After a few minutes the headlights began to work normally again. This problem occurred more than twice with this vehicle.
Unsafe driving conditions at night due to excess condensation build-up in the headlight assemblies. This is prevalent on many vehicles being manufactured in the u. S. A due faulty assembly and improper sealant.
Headlight lenses are discolored, causing poor visibility while driving at night. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.
Headlights aim to right and not far enough ahead, vehicle has been taken to dealer 6 times and headlights were adjusted, but did not remedy the problem.

Headlights go out frequently at night, not allowing consumer to see. Dealer looked at vehicle and found nothing wrong with it.
While driving at night the headlights are not bright enough to be seen in front of the vehicle. The light is very dim, it shines to the sides of the vehicle. Dealer has been contacted and made adjustments, but it has not corrected the problem. Also, manufacturer has been contacted, and they are saying this is a normal characteristic of design.
Intermittently after driving about two hours headlights go out. Sometimes lights come back on right away, and sometimes driver has to turn vehicle off for a few moments before lights come back on. Headlight switch was replaced by the dealership. On March 21st of this year, the problem started again. Please provide any further information.

While driving headlights blink on and off for about 10 minutes. The headlights will stay on for another 5 miles or so and start blinking again. The vehicle has been brought to the dealership 4 times for this problem. The dealer is not able to find anything wrong with the vehicle. Please provide any further information.
While driving at 2:00 am, without prior warning all the headlights went out. This is the fourth time this happened, and the dealer can't determine the cause.
The headlights / dashboard lights are malfunctioning which could result in an accident due to poor visibility. Neither dealer nor Ford has provided help.
High beam headlights will not stay activated. Must hold control lever for high beam, when control level is released headlights return to low beam. Cannot see distant objects at night.
Ongoing problem with vehicle wandering across road, and it became more severe at 70 mph or more. Vehicle been in dealer shop on two occasions, and informed consumer that nothing was wrong. The lights aimed too high die to head lamps misalignment.
Because of the headlight design headlights do not provide enough lighting of road from the side. When used on low/high beam. This is a major concern when going around a sharp curve. The dealer has been notified about the problem. Please provide any further information.
When driving vehicle for about 1-2 hours headlights will become inoperative, causing loss visibility. Consumer has to wait overnight in order for headlights to become operative. Dealer cannot find problem, has already replaced headlight switch twice/light control module/keypad ,and circuit breaker, defect still occurring.
Headlights failed on five occasions in the last two years, both headlights have suddenly shut off, once even when traveling at 55 mph. Lights come on intermittently, about every 10-15 seconds. Dealership has offerred to replace the present 18 amp headlight circuit braker with a 25 amp circuit breaker. However, owners manual indicates that using a circuit breaker with a higher amp could cause severe wire damage and cause fire.
While driving with head lights on, the lights went out twice and the third time would not come back on.
When turning on headlights the panel lights dim due to design, this results in difficulty in seeing dash components during daytime.
While driving on a narrow curve in the mountains, consumer briefly flashed the headlights to high beams, upon releasing them to the normal position, the headlights went out completely leaving the consumer to drive at night without headlights, a few seconds later, the lights came back on, the mechanic removed the steering assembly and replaced a switch, however shortly thereafter the headlights went out again, consumer states the problem has recurred for the third time.
More and more cars are appearing on the road with "discharge" blue headlamps. I'm 67 and find driving at night much more difficult when blue headlamps are coming toward me. Other elderly people tell me that these headlamps on other cars are much more dazzeling. I hate to think what night driving will be like when the majority of cars have the super-bright "discharge" lamps. Has and study been done to determine what limits should be placed on the "dazzle power" of headlamps. Thanks.
The left and right headlight gaskets are prematurely detaching from the headlight frame. The manufacture or dealer will not cover this expense.
I have 7 vehicles with the same problem. Also nurmurious other companies have same problem. Why is there not a safety recall on this??? enclosed are pictures if capible of emailing. No safety defects included.
