Light for seat belt came on and there was a beeping song, took to dealership, said that was a shortage and the pre-tensioners seat belt retractor had to be replace, if not replace if I got into an accident the airbag would not deploy. Paid 719. 00 to have replace. Fast forward to today oct. 22, 2014. Same thing happen again took it to dealer said that this time it is the driver side that needs to be replaced. Spoke with some other Lincoln owner of 2006 Lincoln, it seems as though quite a few people are having the same problem.

My car is making a beeping noise and the air bag sign is showing on the dash.

The dealer stated that the seat belt retractor failed and caused the failure to occur and the seat belt would not protect them in a crash nor would the air bag deploy. Seat belt/air bag light came on. Vehicle purchased new, original dealer diagnosed bad seat belt pre tensioner internally faulted on drivers side. Out of warranty, and vehicle was repaired at a cost of $354 parts and $305 labor. Seat belt/air bag light came on again Jan 8, 2015. Original dealer diagnosed bad seat belt pre tensioner on the passenger side. Parts on order and to be repaired Feb 26, 2015. Parts cost $507 and $305 labor. This is a definite safety item that has a history with this vehicle year and model. Cost to customer is excessive and unacceptable considering this item must be repaired to insure a functional seat belt and air bag in the event of an accident. The excessive costs appears to be discouraging some owners from repairing this safety item according to other complaints to NHTSA. Ford motor company has not fulfilled reasonable manufacturers responsibility on a safety item that could cause severe injury or death as a result of the malfunction of known defect in a required piece of safety equipment.
Upon driving the vehicle the air bag light would come on. . . . And the seatbelt alarm would sound over and over again. So I took the car into allan vigil Ford to be checked. They told me my seat belt needed to be replaced, which they said they had to pull the dash out to get to the proper parts. The cost of this repair was $594. 27. . . . . . The light came on again in September 9, 2013. . . At which time I carried it back to allan vigil and was told it was then the passenger side seatbelt with the same issue. . . . . They repaired it at the cost of $630. 88. . . . . . I feel this should have been handled by Ford, at no cost to me. . . Because upon my further internet searches found this was an issue that has been going on several years with the seatbelts. . . Of the 2006 Lincoln towncars. Also I feel I should have been given more consideration due to the fact that my husband retired from Ford with 35 years service. Please respond .
Safety issue with air bag/seat belt. Have had both driver's and passenger's seat belts replaced due to air bag lights coming on. Between the two repairs have spent over $1,200. Should be a recall on this problem since the air bags won't deploy in case of an accident.
February 2013 air bag light came on took to dealer and diagnosed passenger side seat belt pretensioner needed replaced , repair was made at cost over 600. 00, then again in may 2013 air bag light came on, dealer diagnosed driver side seat belt pretensioner needed replaced at another cost of over 600. 00.

Seat belt alarm started going off. Ford sevice department said they knew of the condition. The seat belt is not working correctly and in case of an accident the air bag/s will not engage. This is a safety hazard that the Ford company has known about and refuses to fix at their cost. It is about $1,000. 00 and I do not have that kind of money. . This to me doesn't seem any different then gm knowing there is a safety problem but refuses to do a recall. Ford service department claims there hasn't been enough reports of the problem to do a recall. So not having the money to fix this, I'm risking my life and anyone riding in the front seat with me each and every time I drive the car. I would appreciate any and all help on this matter.
The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the seat belt sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes. The problem diagnosis was for the left front seat belt pretensioner ( driver's side). A Lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another Lincoln dealership I was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem. It started beeping at 122,000 miles and I was not involved in a crash. A Ford employee told me last year's supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. The price went from $150. 00 for the pretensioner to $360. 00 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), which is the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don't need a new seat belt, buckle, etc. Because of the additional installation costs ($200. 00 to $330. 00), many people may not be able to afford the fix, putting their lives at risk as well as their passenger's.
The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes. The problem diagnosis was for the right front seat belt pretensioner (passenger side). A Lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another Lincoln dealership I was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem, but on the driver? side, mine is on the passenger. The problem started around 114,000 miles, my car is now about 117,000 miles. And I was not involved in a crash. A Ford employee told me last year?s supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. The price went from $150. 00 for the pretensioner to $360. 00 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don?t need a new seat belt, buckle, etc?. Because of the additional installation costs ($200. 00 to $330. 00), many people may not be able to afford the fix. In my situation, neither Lincoln, nor Ford were able to get my part. It is not because my part was the wrong number, it is because the part in the box was the wrong part. We are supposed to get number five, I believe, tomorrow, 5/15/12.
The contact owns a 1996 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that the driver and center seat belt receptacles failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised that the seat belt system needed to be replaced. The seat belt system was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000 and the approximate current mileage was 35,000. Updated 4/24/13 updated 05/29/2013.

2006 Lincoln towncar, problem diagnosis was left front seat tensioner consumer was told by dealership that the problem diagnosis was the left front seat belt tensionsioner and that the airbag would not work with the seat belt problem diagnosis. Updated 6/7/12.
The problem diagnosis was the left front seat belt tensioner. A Lincoln dealer service employee said "the air bag will not work with this problem". At another Lincoln dealership a service employee mentioned "this has been a real nightmare", many are having this same problem. I hear they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. Because of the part and installation cost, perhaps many people may not be able to afford the fix, therefore leaving them in a dangerous situation.
Air bag warning light came on. Took to dealer and they diagnosed failure of the driver seat belt pretensioner and replaced at a cost of $628. Thirty days later, August 13, air bag warning light came on again. Took to dealer and this time I was told the passenger side seat belt pretensioner was faulty and replaced at a cost of $764. It would seem that a safety requirement such as these should last more than a 100,000 miles?.

The driver side safety belt on my 2002 Lincoln Town Car no longer latches and appears to be locked preventing the seat belt from being connected/latched. The dash board seat belt indicator (normally lit up when a seat belt is not attached) does not light up. This problem started only a couple weeks ago and continues. This car have less than 48,000 miles and is used to drive to work and back. Because I am unable to latch my driver seat belt this is a major safety concern and I wanted to report it to your agency. As of this writing I have not had a Ford service rep look at this, but intend to shortly. Because I have not yet taken my car into a Ford service center for examination I am unable to report what was done to correct this failure or parts needed/replaced.

In 1996 before I purchased my 96 Lincoln Town Car there was a recall on the rear seat belts (96v109000). The rear seat belts have started to not work. I contacted the dealer that sold it to me and was told that they have no record of the recall or if it was a recall. What do I do? I will get a ticket if not using or should a death occur if in an accident. The belts will just not pull down.
The contact owns a 1998 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that the coating on the rims was wearing down and prevent air from remaining in the tires. As a result, she must constantly place air in the tires. The tire dealer stated that the rims needed to be replaced. In addition, the head lamps have to be replaced for the second time because they hold condensation, which shorts out the electrical system. Lastly, the seat belts stick and are difficult to use properly. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 102,000.

The front and rear seat belts would not lock during emergency braking. The consumer stated the seat belts worked, he just did not brake hard enough.
Consumer tried to release himself from driver's side seat belt and could not. Consumer had to slide underneath by using a pair of pipe plyers and squeezed very tightly before the belts released. Consumer found a quarter in the machanism that caused the jam.
Rear passenger side and driver side seat belts locked when brakes were pressed, and would not loosen. Passenger had to release belt and buckle again. Dealer replaced the sensor.
