Gasoline Engine problems of the 1996 Mazda 626

Three problems related to gasoline engine have been reported for the 1996 Mazda 626. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2000

When driving the o/d off light flashes, the cruise control will cut off without touching the brakes. When accelerating from stops the engine revs but the car continues to move as though it is in neutral for about 5 to 10 minutes before it kicks in gear very hard. Occassionally the car will not even roll forward when trying to accelerate after stopping.

2 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/31/1996

Air intake ingested rain water into engine, causing cylinder rod to break.

3 Gasoline Engine problem

Oil sending unit cracked, causing oil to drain out, resutling in a damaged engine, dealer replaced engine. Also, transmission became inoperative. Dealer could not determine what caused it.
