Differential Unit problems of the 1998 Mazda 626

Two problems related to differential unit have been reported for the 1998 Mazda 626. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2004

1998 Mazda 626 - total transmission failure at 91000 miles. With proper fluid levels and fluid change at 50k miles, the transmissions still experienced a major meltdown! numerous parts destroyed inside the transmission when the differential gear fell apart. I'm very upset with the $2,800 bill to repair something that should have never failed. While calling numerous transmission repair shops, I quickly found this is a very common problem for the cd4e transmission. I was also very disappointed at Mazda's response to a problem that's been ongoing for years! basically. . . "sorry, not our fault". Hopefully this complaint can be used to help make Mazda more responsible for a product they know to be bad.

2 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2001

I have had my Mazda in the shop 5 times in the past year and a half all transmission related! it has cost me so much money, inconvienced me and just given me major migrains! I have had the transmission rebuilt twice, the differential barring replaced, a seal which was pouring out fluid and caused me to be stranded on interstate replaced. This car is a joke! Mazda you should be ashamed to have your name on this car! I just got it out of the shop Tuesday and I'm on my way to trade it!! I still owe on this car and I am not a happy and satisfied customer. Why there is not a recall on this car is unbelievable! I have been so emotionally stressed out because I never know where or when my car is going to break down next. This Mazda is history!!!.
