2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Since my car was new, I have had a recurring problem with the passenger airbag sensor indicating that the passenger seat is not occupied when in fact there is an adult passenger in the seat. Since the problem is sporadic and I haven't been able to recreate it for the Mazda mechanic, Mazda says nothing is wrong, but there is clearly a problem that is potentially serious. Most recently I have noticed that the problem occurs shortly after starting the engine, after the airbag system has gone through its initial check and the light has gone out. It may then come back on and will remain on for the duration of the trip with a passenger seated the entire time. I saw the recall today of nissans for what sounds like a very similar, if not identical, problem. I am extremely concerned that in the event of an accident, my passenger would not have airbag protection.
