Fuel system failure at only 60k miles on car. Engine light came on dash & my car just randomly started failing as if it wasn't getting gas, trying to cut off while driving down the road!! huge hazard!! this could have caused an accident but I luckily going in a 25mph zone. Local shop diagnosed the fuel pumps failed (this car has 2 of them) and they also were able to reproduce the same issue when going to start the car to move in and out of the bay. I have called Mazda and done the research- they did not put a recall on this year but it appears other years gave been recalled with fuel system related issues. This should be looked into as I've found numerous complaints on this year and model!.

While driving on the interstate (continuously for about 4 hours) the vehicle suddenly lost power and the engine stalled. Power steering and power brakes were impacted and the vehicle was difficult to get off the road safely. Once stopped, it would not restart over a 30 minute period. A tow truck was called and it was taken to the dealer. A couple hours later when the dealer checked it, the vehicle started normally and drove without issue. A p0192 code was stored in the ecu so the high pressure fuel pump was replaced even though they could not reproduce the problem. The vehicle has 63000 miles on it now, but a similar sequence happened at 15000 miles. In that situation while driving at a steady speed all power cut out and the engine abruptly downshifted to the point where the tires squealed. After pulling off the road and stopping/starting the vehicle it seemed to drive normally again. We were traveling at the time with no dealer nearby, but when we returned back home we took it to the dealer and they found the same code p0192 and ran various tests and decided to replace the high pressure fuel pump even though it was driving properly. In only 63000 miles this vehicle has twice failed dramatically and without warning in ways that could easily cause an accident or injury. I am lacking in confidence that the root cause has ever been identified.

There is currently a recall for faulty fuel pumps in Mazda Cx-5 models 2018-2019. We currently own a 2017 Mazda Cx-5 with less than 80,000 and had the same faulty part as the recalled years cause us to stall on a highway going 75 miles an hour. We were towed to a Mazda dealership who told us the running issues on our car were the following; code p0171-fuel pump was damaged and sent debris into the high-pressure pump code-p01792. The dealership knew we were aware of the recall in other model years and they informed us it was the same exact part in our car. So are big questions is why wasn't 2017 included in this warranty. I have reached out to Mazda and they are totally disregarding our claim and questions as to why 2017 wasn't included in the recall. A couple days before we stalled we experienced a engine hesitation which we believed was due to high winds and a roof rack while traveling. We did not have any lights on or warnings prior to being stalled. After we stalled the alachua please department pushed our car to safety.
The car has signs of current recall in other Cx-5 models. Hesitation with acceleration or driving at high speed, reduced power, not responding appropriately when accelerating or would accelerate on its own, strong smell of gas after the car has been driven and is parked. I know there is currently a recall for a gas pump failure. There is no engine light on.

On February 14, 2023 around 3:30 - 4:30 p. M. (est), I drove to the local wawa. Upon entering the driveway of wawa at a very low speed and depressing the brake the car failed to come to a complete stop. I pressed down on the brake as hard as I good, but the car did not come to a stop until hitting the security/safety bollard in front of the wawa store. I did not get injured and no one else was injured. The front end of my car sustained over $4000 worth of damage. The insurance company repaired by car. I was asked by the insurance company what caused the front end damage. As I played the accident over and over in my head, I just could not see what I did wrong. My foot was on the brake. Also, I entered the entrance of wawa at a very slow/low speed. After a few weeks I took the car to the Mazda dealer to let them know the car accelerates and engine revs. Also, the car jolts forward while decelerating from about 20mph to 10mph. The car dealer/repair shop could not replicate the problem. Was told to bring the car back in, if problem continues.
Low oil light appears at least twice between oil changes.

I have made carmax aware of the issue I was driving on the interstate in PA, when out of nowhere the check engine light turned on and the car stalled and stopped working the speedometer went down drastically almost causing me to get into a car accident, I was able to continue going slowly on the emergency lane until the car stopped it was freezing weather and there was no one in sight to help not even an emergency vehicle they told me it was an 02 sensor that they fixed it and once again I am driving and pulling into my driveway the car shut off mid drive and the brake would not work I had to pull the emergency brake I almost got into an accident I would've driven the car into my neighbor's property this 02 sensor is bad there's a bad scent and also now all the electrical has gone haywire I have also made them aware of this since may I have videos of everything shutting on and off please help me I dont want to die because of this car and no one is helping me.
The low pressure fuel pump on my Cx-5 failed on my drive back home, while in a remote area. I was able to limp the vehicle home with a check engine light that illuminated (at the time of the incident) and erratic vehicle performance (uneven power deliver). This occurred on level ground at highway speed - no incident precipitated the part failure. Once home the following day, the vehicle would not restart. Upon diagnostic review, the vehicle had thrown two codes, one being a low fuel rail pressure (p0192 and p0171). This is a know issue for these defective (denso) fuel pumps. The manufacturer should extend the recall to include vehicles manufactured prior to 2018.
The check engine light came on when I was in my way home. This morning when I started my car, the engine reved on its own and then it went to 0. This is super dangerous. The car could have stopped in the middle of the freeway. I had my car towed to a local mechanic. The error code that came up was p0192. Looks like there is a recall for the fuel pump issue for many Mazda, yet mine isn’t part of it.
After driving for approximately 1 minute, the vehicle approached a stop sign and car stalled and would not restart. When attempting to restart vehicle, engine was firing but not turning over. Attempted to jump start the vehicle with no success until vehicle was given throttle at which point it restarted. No lights were illuminated prior to the incident, but when the vehicle stalled the battery light and check engine light illuminated.

I am having 2021 cx5 signature turbo 3400 mile and the engine light can me on upon checking the oil level was to low mark burnt out . I am concern that Mazda have not came up. With a recall yet.
Unknown. The engine started to stall as I was driving and the gas pedal wasn't working. The car shutdown after reaching 0 moles per hour and it would jerk when I tried starting it. The car had enough fuel, battery and was service a month prior. The car would not start and had to wait a few hours to try again. The issue is similar to the recall this model has but when I checked my VIN is all cleared . Please help.

I have a 2019 cx5 Mazda that consistently leaks oil and smokes. After taking it to a mechanic, I learned that this is a known Mazda issue, but because my car is under warranty, they won't help me. The cylinder head is pours, and my mechanic said even if he replaces it, it will happen again due to the design. After I have checked online, it seems that many people have this issue from 2018-2021. Mazda even made TSB #sa-031-21 to cover some of this issue but no recall. As mentioned, my car leaks oil everyday, and I have to constantly put oil in just to keep it from burning up. It smokes really bad, but I cannot afford a new car or afford to pay over $3k to get this fixed, or don't understand why they won't fix it if they know it was poor design???.
Fuel pump. The mechanics at the Mazda dealership brushed me off when I brought up the open recall on my vehicle. However, according to them it is a "preliminary recall," the mechanic said it wasn't an "open recall. " this is my first vehicle and I stupidly put my trust into the mechanic and believed his words. I am not well-versed in vehicles but after extensive research, asking a friend, and referring to a vpc agent who deals with recalls on vehicles; it turns out there is no such thing as a preliminary recall outside of Mazda's definition. I told the mechanic it was an open recall and that I need to ship the vehicle to hawaii and the shipping company can refuse service if there is an open recall. The mechanic still brushed me off and talked to me as if I was dumb because I couldn't understand what he was saying. He continued to say they don't have the parts regardless and said "no one does. " I didn't press the issue because I assumed they knew better than I. It seems as if Mazda is refusing to work on, look at, or even hear about the fuel pump recall.
While beginning to turn into an interstate exit lane, all dashboard lights lit up, the engine died, and the car stopped. Power brakes & steering were inactivated. My husband was able to coast the car to the shoulder. My Mazda app said nothing wrong with car. Waited 3 hours for tow as we were out of state. The Mazda dealership found the high pressure fuel pump to have a malfunction. Two different technicians at the dealership related that Mazda was aware of the issue & had not yet issued a recalled.
My son was driving the car when it suddenly lost power and would not shift correctly. This occurred without warning while in moderately fast traffic that was moving at 40-50 mph. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the problem occurring. Upon reviewing trouble codes, it is likely that the low pressure fuel pump located in the fuel tank has begun to fail. When the tank gets low on fuel, about 1/4 tank, the low pressure fuel pump is unable to supply enough fuel to the high pressure fuel pump. This results in sudden loss of power, and also hard starting. I believe the fuel pump is the problem because it was manufactured by denso, who recalled 2,000,000 similar fuel pumps two years ago. Those pumps were recalled because they created the exact problem we experienced. Toyota recalled vehicles using these pumps as far back as 2013. However Mazda and other oem's were allowed to only recall vehicles going back to 2018. Even though it is the same pump. When the manufacturing defect that causes a safety problem is well known, why are some manufacturers allowed to limit their recall? why aren't all cars using the pump forced to be recalled? if a recall is excessive, why aren't manufacturers required to provide an extended warranty? NHTSA, you dropped the ball on this, and you need to fix it.
On April 16, 2022, around 6:45pm, I drove my new Mazda cx5 (@ 3500 miles) into our church parking lot and turned right down the first row of cars. It was light out and the weather was pleasant. I turned right into a parking space with my foot on the brake. The car was facing and perpendicular to a sidewalk that was about 10 feet away. It was separated by a grassy median. When I depressed the brake further to shift from drive into park, the car surged forward and accelerated. There was a pedestrian on the sidewalk in front of the car. I turned the wheel to the right at a 90 degree angle to avoid hitting her. I kept pressing the brake but the car kept accelerating until it crashed into a large tree. The airbag deployed. Both the pedestrian and I were transported to the hospital. The pedestrian had bruises on her leg and hip, but fortunately was not more seriously injured and was released from the hospital. I was admitted to the hospital for contusions to the heart. The car hood was crushed and the car was totaled. The incident was terrifying. The police estimated the car went from nearly a standstill to about 40mph in about 15-20 feet. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the accident. I checked the NHTSA website after the accident and downloaded 16 similar complaints where low mileage Mazda cx5s accelerated out of control when drivers were attempting to park or stop.
Follow up! I originally posted I thought this was an engine issue. However, after reading about the huge recall with Mazda due to a faulty denso fuel pump I quickly realized this is 100% issue. This causes my car to stall on the highway and stop accelerating at 65mph. Huge safety issue! many other car dealers have been hit with too. However, my VIN is not part of the recall. There are claims on court docs there are more vehicles part of this recall than what Mazda is owning up to. I find it hard to believe I am the only one. Mazda pony up and do the right thing for your consumers.
When the cylinder deactivation system triggers it causes the engine/car to shake and stutter. Somtimes it's suttle and other times if feels like the car is going to stall out. It's a vibration that makes it feel like your driving over cobblestones. This has been ongoing for a few months now. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. It appears to be the same problem as the 2018-2019 recall.
Safety recall just received for my car. Fuel pump failure may result in engine failure increasing risk of crash. Repair parts not available. It is expected parts may be available summer 2022. I will be driving cross country to return home to NY from az in March. What am I supposed to do?.
There is no recall on this which is a huge safety issue. This has happened to me on highway several times and Mazda will not do anything about it. Very dangerous when you are going 65 on a highway! TSB number 01-007/19- misfire p0304- of 4th cylinder. Recommendation to replace main silencer due to condensation accumulation in the exhaust baffle. Please search the TSB and misfire code I provided to learn more about it. If you are out of warranty. You are out of luck with Mazda. I will take upon myself to educate others where Mazda could careless to correct this or let the public now.
I was driving on the highway, at about 65 mph. The engine lost power and the car began to slow down. It did not respond to the accelerator, but the power was still on. I was lucky enough to be able to pull over to the shoulder without colliding, but it was extremely fortunate that no cars were obstructing me at the time. I put the car into park once stopped and turned the engine off. I tried to restart but the engine did not turn over and several warning signs came up on the dash and the car emitted irregular dinging/beeping noises before going silent (I do not recall specifically, but I believe the check engine and/or battery indicator lights came on) the hazards worked, also the interior lights. But I was stranded in a remote area in complete darkness on a very narrow shoulder with large trucks whizzing by. A chp officer appeared eventually and expedited a tow truck, which brought me to the nearest Mazda dealership 100 miles away. It was midnight by the time we arrived. Both the tow truck driver and the technician (the next morning) were both unable to jumpstart the car. Engine would not turn over at all. The technician opened up the engine and sent reports to Mazda. We are waiting to hear back but they would not give me a loaner vehicle without knowing the cause of the failure. Very relieved I was not hurt but also very upset at the chance I could have been.
Strong gasoline odor outside the vehicle. I verified that the gas cap is locked after filling up. I see no dash board warning lights that would suggest that there is a problem with the fuel cap or fuel system. The odor is still there even after running the tank down considerably. The smell is mostly detected on the driver side of the vehicle starting at the driver door and moving toward the rear of the vehicle where the fuel door is positioned. The smell is there in warm and cooler weather. It is 60 degrees f and I can smell . It.

My vehicle has an open recall that poses a safety risk for myself and all passengers. I spoke with Mazda service department/dealer in my area and they stated that Mazda would not have these parts available until summer of 2022. The service department also stated “the vehicle is completely safe to drive”. I am wary of this response as a potential stalled engine is a major safety risk for myself and all passengers. Mazda will also start mailing out recall letters by January 22nd, which is a huge delay in response. This is unacceptable and I am wary about driving the vehicle. Please let me know what are my options here.
Mazda recall 5321k NHTSA recall 21v875 has been open since Nov 2021 and notification by letter not received until Jan 2022 stating that a fix may be available by summer 2022. Meaning I am driving a vehicle that may stall at any time possibly causing a crash. This is unacceptable from a safety standpoint. Nhtsa needs to apply pressure on Mazda to resolve this ASAP or provide loaner vehicles to those customers at risk.
The vehicle stall at very low speed in a parking lot could not restart it was turning over the battery was fine came back 3 hours later and was able to start.
Neither you nor Mazda has notified me about the current recall with the fuel pump. I've heard about it months ago from web sites that aren't supposed to notify me. Both you and Mazda have never notified me. Mazda was supposed to send out notices to the car owners 3 weeks ago. Why aren't I hearing about this?.
My problem is with the keyless start system. The problem is that if I forget to push the start button to shut down the vehicle and open the door and leave the automobile and shut the door with the key in my possession the auto will keep running until it runs out of fuel. Wouldn't it make more sense for the vehicle to shut down after 3 minutes if the key is not present. As you know people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning by parking in their garage and forgetting to shut down the vehicle and the vehicle keeps running and filling their homes with carbon monoxide. This happened to a older couple in sarasota florida with a new car that they just purchased and were not familiar with the starting system. Just wanted to know just how many people have to die before something is done about this problem. I asked my Mazda dealer and they told me that the vehicle will run until out of fuel and basically said that I was stupid for being concerned.
After fixing the electrical problem with the car not fully turning off, the car suddenly died in traffic and wouldn't restart. Replacing mass air sensor, O2 sensor, and plugs, the car will die in traffic when coming to a stop, but restarts immediately. The code says this is a pcm problem. Internet research says this is not uncommon resulting in safety recalls in other year models. 2013 should also be recalled.

I was driving and was approaching a stop sign so I pressed brake to come to a stop. While I was pressing the brake, the car suddenly revved up and lurched forward. I had to switch the car to neutral gear to stop and then back up out of the way of oncoming traffic.
While driving my vehicle on the interstate the car lost the ability to accelerate. All of the dashboard lights came on and I had to coast to the side of the interstate. After restarting the vehicle I was able to drive it but I cannot take the vehicle over 30 mph now without it shuttering and having acceleration issues. This is a serious and life threatening issue that needs to be fixed free of charge. I have found other reports of this happening but I see no recall information. This needs to be fixed before Mazda has lawsuits filed against them. This is a manufacturing error and not a usage error. Please look into this.
Vehicle having significant drop in power output in 1st and 2nd gear when ambient temperatures below freezing. Issue resolves when finally shifting to 3rd gear, but lack of predictable response when merging is unsettling.
Without any warning, while driving on a highway at approximately 65 mph, the car suddenly stalled. Thankfully, on both occasions, I was able to avoid an accident and pull over to the side of the road. Coincidentally, I also own a 2018 Mazda Cx-5 and in October of 2019, I received a recall notice (3719f, NHTSA #19v-497) for the 2018 car. The description in the recall sounds like the exact issue I have faced with my 2017 Mazda yet there is no recall as of now on my 2017.
Mpg is not as high as listed. With one passenger, no cargo avg city mpg 22. Avg hwy 26 combined 24. 7 months owning car. Tires inflated to proper setting. Maintained done at regular scheduled intervals.
My 2020 Mazda Cx-5 was 2 days old and the battery was completely drained and had to be towed to the dealer. I picked it up and they did nothing to the battery. They told me nothing was wrong and they replaced the key fob battery. Two more days after that I parked it in my garage and pushed the button to turn it off. Apparently it did not turn off and come morning, I had significant carbon monoxide poisoning and was hospitalized for 4 nights. My car would not start again and the odd thing was that the battery was drained again and there was still gas in it. My local Mazda dealer refuses to help me and I am trying to contact Mazda's main number.
