Two problems related to ball joint have been reported for the 2012 Mazda CX9. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Mazda Cx9. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shut-off with an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who diagnosed that water entered the vehicle and caused the corrosion of the front suspension ball joint. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
I received a letter in September 2015 regarding a recall that involved the front suspension and the dangers that could be involved, but there were no parts available at this time to fix the problem. I still haven't received notification of parts being available 6 months later. No damage has been done my vehicle as of yet however another snowy winter in illinois has passed and the danger of "saltwater intruding into the ball joint, causing corrosion, which can result in generating looseness of the ball joint in the fitting". The result of this corrosion, according to the recall letter, can cause the ball joint and lower arm to separate causing loss of steering control and increased crash risk. I think 6 months is ample time to produce parts needed to fix these vehicles and to save lives and it is incredibly irresponsible of Mazda to not expedite this fix.
