Well I was backing up from a parking spot when put out of the blue my vehicle wouldn't move . The drive side wheel is not working and these little around thing where on the ground . Before that happen the driver side tire would become lose to where it would fall off.
The vehicle has tire pressure monitoring system malfunction warnings and parking brake malfunction warnings even after taking to dealership to be fixed. Was told it’s a known problem by Mazda, should be recalled, but there were not any current recalls for the issue.
It acting like it doesn’t want to hold air. I have to air up my wheels every morning. It’s only the back wheels.
I was driving approximately 75-80 mph (speed limit for I-90 is 80 mph) on I-90 eastbound in south dakota (approximately 5-8 miles from sioux falls, sd) in the left-hand lane (passing lane with a minimal shoulder) when I heard a terrible noise that sounded like I had a flat tire and the car began to pull to the left. I immediately slowed down and steered the vehicle onto the small shoulder on the left-hand side of the interstate. It was at this point I looked out my window (driver's window) and saw the entire left front wheel (not just the rubber tire) rolling by (west in the grassy median of I-90). The vehicle did not roll over, hit another vehicle, or get hit by another vehicle. After coming to a safe stop, I got out of the vehicle and saw that the left front (driver's side) wheel (not just the rubber tire) was gone. There were two (2) other passengers in the vehicle at the time that the wheel fell off who exited the vehicle out of danger of passing cars/trucks/semi tractor trailers on I-90. The vehicle was towed and to my knowledge has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The hertz rental vehicle was only "inspected" by purco claims specialist via pictures as they did not have the vehicle in their possession. There were no warning messages, lamps, lights, or other symptoms prior to the wheel falling off. The wheel fell off on 7/8/2023 on interstate 90 in south dakota. After the wheel fell off, it rolled down the median of I-90 bounced up onto the westbound lane of I-90 and struck another vehicle causing that vehicle's airbags to deploy. There were four (4) occupants in that vehicle.
Rear wheel trim partially detached from car while driving, safety risk of large plastic part being caught in rear wheel. Did not hit any debris but heard a loud noise as the part detached. Part is supposed to be held in place by 12 clips but multiple owners of Mazda cx-5 and cx-9 models report this problem. Mazda dealers deny there is a problem even when some new cars have only 3 clips installed. When I called Mazda USA to report, and asked them specifically for a federal government contact to report safety issues, they said calling them was the only way to report an issue, which was not correct. Was told I would have to pay for the repair of this safety issue. See this website for the experience of other owners and a description of the problem: https://mazdas247. Com/forum/t/2016-cx-9-wheel-well-trim-became-detached. 123861160/ I also personally know another Mazda owner who had the same issue with the part falling off while driving.
Driving on I-5, near gold hill, oregon, when the traction control system light came on and the vehicle slowed down. I had to push the gas pedal to the floor to get the car to move and I could not shift gears! it shuddered and the wheels seemed to lock up. I could smell burning rubber. I forced the car to the next exit, pulled off and shut it down. I sat there waiting for it to cool off. When I started it again it was a little rough at first but then seemed to get better and I was able to get home. I bought the car in June of 2020 from lithia motors in medford, oregon. I also bought a power train warranty for $2,500 which was set to expire on 6/10/2021. I called lithia and made an appointment to take it to them for repairs on June 1, 2021. I got as far as grants pass, or, and it did the same thing I described above. I called a tow truck and had it towed to lithia in medford. When I got to medford, the service manager told me I would have to take it to crater lake Ford. When I got to crater lake Ford I was told to take it to crater lake Mazda which I did. I described in detail what the car was doing to. The service. Manager and told him I feared it was some kind of transmission problem. I also told him I had a power train. Warranty the would expire on june10thso time was no the essence! I never suspected the brakes because we had the bakes repaired in November of 2020 at lithia motors. They were making a hissing sound. They replaced the. Brake booster among other brake parts for $1,300 plus. That job was still under warranty. I got a call on June 15th telling me the problem was in the gear shift. He said it was now repaired and I could come and pick it up. I paid $674 for that repair. I got three miles from the dealership and the original problem occurred. I had it towed back to Mazda and it has been there ever since!! they replaced they're (traction control module), but that didn't fix it. After test driving it the original problem occurred! it's still at Mazda.
I heard a pinging sound coming from one of the wheels. When I got out and looked, I discovered the wheels are beginning to flake and degrade. I contacted Mazda customer service and was told I would have to cover the cost of replacement as the vehicle is out of warranty.
Lost control brakes failing and steering and wheel lc about to fall off dealerships saying recall was completed but it's definitely not.
I bought a used 2017 Mazda cx-9 from west shore Honda in tampa in July of 2020. They screwed me financially and I'll handle that separately. There has been an ongoing issue since the first few days after buying the car. I've complained multiple times via email and phone. I've been trying the service department countless times. They keep stating it's a tire issue. To the point they have replaced the tires 3 times. After the second time I had already decided it's not tires. The car has a very rough ride when I'm motion. Once you got 80 it wobbles. After several weeks the wobble can be felt at lower speeds of 55/60. The check engine light comes on but I'm told there's no codes when they diagnostic the reading. I've expressed that when I pull into my garage within 30 seconds to a minute there's a loud pop it's when the car is not in motion when it's been parked and turned off is when I noticed it. I brought it to my personal mechanic just to look at and drive and he's pretty certain it's a powertrain bearing or something of those sorts. Brought it back to westshore and they put another set of tires on it. This is been going on now for 9 months and after doing research online and some of the NHTSA ids this is a problem and I do not feel safe. And it needs to be handled the amount of complaints in times that I visited that dealership to fix this problem and all they do is put new tires on it is asinine. I have tons of documentation the same documentation that's at the dealership I do everything via email for that reason.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Mazda cs9. The contact stated while driving 5 mph around a roundabout the front right tire detached independently without warning. The vehicle was towed to modern Mazda,68 waterbury rd, thomaston, CT 06787 where the car was not diagnosed. The vehicle is currently at the dealership. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 135,000 lj.
Body paint is very thin and is chipping. Wheels coating is peeling off and chipping. And the seat heaters are very hot, almost burning even on the lowest setting.
There are noises coming from the front tires, when driving. No one could pinpoint the problem. Brake booster went out a couple months later.
Tire sensor failure has twice now caused blow out of tires while driving, luckily no injury since going at low speed in neighborhood. Also keep having issues with loosing tire pressure. Now I see this is a known problem with this vehicle make model and year.
Vehicle had a loud grinding/growing sound took it to the dealer in October 2018 replaced right front wheel bearing, same issue took to dealer replaced left front wheel bearing in may 2019, same issue replaced left front wheel bearing again December of 2019, same issue replaced right rear wheel bearing March 2020.
While driving on a city street, the spare tire which is mounted under the vehicle detached and fell onto the road. Inspection of the spare tire undercarriage mounting bracket showed no signs of damage; it's not clear how the tire became detached.
My vehicle seemed as if the transmission was slipping between gears on the highway it would take forever to switch into higher gears for higher speeds then when slowing down it would jerk and then finally stop or if I was in traffic where I didn't need to make a complete stop it would jerk to slow down and skip gears and jerk to speed back up while on the high way traveling at normal speed with cruise control set it went from 6th gear to 4th gear for no reason at all! then it started making noises sounding like both the front and back end first you would only hear them when turning right or left then started hearing them in reverse then you heard them while driving all the time on the highway back roads and parking sounded as if my tires were going to fall off! I contacted carmax because that's where I purchased the car in March of 2017 it's now agust 2017 and told them what was happening they lied from the initial phone call but that's besides the point they had my vehicle for a week saying they were looking at it thoroughly to make sure what they found in the rear differential was the issue they assured me it was told me if I heard the noise bring it back ASAP as I was driving the vehicle home it was still experiencing the same issues we tried to call them immediately but they were closed we called them that Monday and couldn't get anybody on the phone so we left a message we continue to call them for two weeks before they finally gave us an appointment to bring the car and I could not drive my car for the two weeks that I had it in my possession because I was told through my extended warrantee that driving my vehicle while it was still damaged would void my warranty the day after we drop my car off back at carmax I was called and told that the date it was pulled out of the garage on the original repair date 3 weeks prior that the tech noted to bring to Mazda.
The contact owns a 2011 Mazda cx-9. While driving 35 mph, the front wheels seized. The vehicle skidded and came to a complete stop without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was serviced for the lower control arms one day prior to the failure. The vehicle had an extended warranty for the transfer case, but it expired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I had to replace both front wheel bearings by 73,000 miles. I would consider this a wheel bearing defect, as I never had to replace this on any of my cars during my 27 years of driving. Mazda cx-9 is based on Ford edge and Ford is known for bad wheel hub/bearings and this may be related. Shouldn't this be recalled? I'm unhappy with this car as I feel this repair is too soon and not cheap, $650-700 per wheel. If the car was over 100-150k miles, then I would understand one wheel bearing replacement, but two within 73k miles? read some blogs that it's not unusual to replace all four wheel bearings on this car under 100k miles. Please advise, as this isn't safe for moms driving with young children like my wife, let alone others. This car should be investigated, recalled ASAP and repaired free of charge or refunded. Thank you.
I had to replace my tires because of the ball joints and causing my wheel to come off. My breaks sounds horrible even after I had them serviced if it rains really bad I get this cranking noise I have a weird sound to my vehicle right now coming from the front of the vehicle again and not sure what's the problem. I'm afraid to drive the vehicle to fast because I have children what's going on with this vehicle.
I took my car to hall in brookfield WI to fix a recall issue. The dealer told me they fixed the recall issue but noticed another problem that requires the replacement of the differential bushings because they were torn. They charged me over $500 for this issue and I believe the issue was exasperated by the recall issue and I am not sure why I had to pay. I honestly believe it was a way for the dealer to charge me for the recall work because it was supposed to be free. I am attaching receipts for the work hall did to this complaint. Now my car is having issues with properly accelerating and is very loud.
My car is having a recall repaired for some front end issue. In sept 2015 I took my car in for inspection, and all 4 tires had great tread on them. Mazda didn't have parts in September to fix my car. Between September 2015, and April 2016 my drivers side front tire is bald on the outside to the point it's almost unsafe to drive. It is the only tire that is like this. . All 4 tires were replaced at the same time about two years ago. Paul miller Mazda called me and informed me I needed new tires and an alignment and I informed them it had to be related to the recall due to only that tire, and the fact that the tread was the same as the other tires in September. We could feel the front end issues in the vehicle for 7 months waiting on the parts. I am now stuck having to buy a new tire and pay for an alignment out of my own pocket because it ook them 7 months to get parts in to fix my Mazda.
While traveling @ about 15 mph made a right turn up a one way street, car made a loud thump sound and lurched forward. At which point the car stopped and I was not able to move back or forward. Exited vehicle to find driver side wheel broke off and moved forward in the wheel well. Mazda roadside was called and flatbed service arranged. Car is well maintained and only has 74,000 miles. Mazda needs to act quickly on this recall issue because some one is going to get seriously injured or kiilled (driving at highway speeds).
When driving under 20 mph entering into our neighborhood, heard a loud "pop" - then the front left tire suspension 'popped off' the tire, causing the car to lose control and hit the curb with the right tire. It appears that the suspension just "popped off" the joint causing the tire to become 'dislodged' from the vehicle - and sent the car into the curb - see pictures. No police report was taken as it did not involve personal injury nor another vehicle. Upon investigation on the web, it appears that NHTSA has an open investigation into similar problems with 2007/2008 Mazda cx-9s (see action number: pe15022) - which is why I am writing to you now.
Mazda recall state of NJ. The car was in motion when the tire came loose. My husband hit a small pothole. Luckily we were able to get the car on the side of ride. Due to the recall we were not able to put the claim through our insurance and Mazda is telling me I won't get a refund for the work done because it took so long to be repaired. Unfortunately, we do not recall receiving anything about the recall. After reading the recall basically what it said could happen did and the car needed repairs. I attached the invoice and recall from Mazda's website.
I was making a left turn on a parking lot when I heard a loud crunch coming from the front of the vehicle and fully lost control of the car. When I came outside to see what happened I saw that ball joint on my front left (driver side) broke, the wheel with part of the axel fully out, and that break fluid was spoiled all over. Imagine this happening on the fighter when I was driving with two of my young kids!!.
While taking a right hand turn in the parking lot of logan airport, and travelling about 5-10 mph, my car made a loud noise and came to a sudden and abrupt halt. I stepped out of the car and discovered that the driver's side front tire had disconnected from the steering arm. The car was immobilized, and I was not able to move it out of the way of other traffic in the airport parking lot, causing chaos in the parking lot and causing them to temporarily shut down an entire floor of the parking lot while they struggled to tow the car out of the way. The car was subsequently towed to a Mazda dealership and the tire arms and ball joints were repaired pursuant to a recall (8515g). The front tires were also unevenly worn and replaced, very likely from the ball joint / steering arm issue, and cost $481. 55. Mazda would not reimburse for the tires because I could not locate receipts to prove I had rotated the tires at the appropriate intervals, specifically stating "our dealer was unable to confirm if the wearing of the tires were due to the recall item as there was no supporting documentation indicating the proper maintenance on the tires". I do not believe most people keep records of every oil change / tire rotation they have done, but the wear was very consistent with what would be expected for ball joint issues. Furthermore the car had been inspected by the state of massachusetts in the month of September, and no uneven wear was found at that time, giving further indication that the uneven wear was linked to the ball joint / tire rod issue. Fortunately this did not occur one day earlier while towing a boat on the highway with my disabled son, this could have easily been a multi fatality accident. I have literally had nightmares over this possibility. This is an extremely dangerous situation.
While driving on highway tpms signal sounded. Exited immediately rear right tire flat. Upon examination valve had fallen into tire. Changed tire went to service tire dealer stated all valves corroded badly. Replaced all valves at costco they were unable to service too much corrosion. Cx9 owners should be warned of problem and possible catastrophic failure.
I was dropping my children off to daycare turning into the parking lot and going over a bump when I heard a loud "pop" toward the front of the car - the car completely stopped dead - I got out to find the front right tire was cocked hard left and was off its control arm - some fluid was also leaking out of the axle area. This happened the Monday morning after I received the recall notice from Mazda this past weekend! I had the form in the car to call for service this week. I have called the service center but they have said they will not be able to look at the car until Thursday - now I will have towing and rental expenses connected with this defect. Fortunately no one in the car was hurt or that it didn't fail on the highway!.
Was driving on neighborhood road, heading toward a state highway when all of the sudden a large boom occured and I lost total comtrol of the car and went up the curb and onto the sidewalk. I thought I'd blown a tire but got out and saw the entire wheel was disconnected - the suspension ruined. Would be happy to share pictures mechanic says ball joint, cv joint came completely off as well as brake fluid all over. I read online about similar issues and that NHTSA has an open investigation under NHTSA action number: pe15022. Consider this another case! I'm thankful there were no people that I swerved into when losing control! this is clearly a saftey hazard- ay least in states where salt is used on roads, like here in mn I expect mazada to take tesponsibility amd pay for these repairs please contact me with additional info or next steps. Thank you!.
The vehicle started to have problems with the car shaking around 50mph. So we planned to have it looked at since we heard that this particular model has some known issues that may become severe. During the drive to the car shop (literally 1 mile from home) the axle/bearing or front suspension separated from the car!!! the front left wheel and joints separated from the car; the wheel looks like it was breaking off! we were driving around 15mph! no one was hurt and thank goodness it was around 11am so there was no traffic around to make things worse. The car had to be towed to the car shop which was only feet away from the scene, which was an added charge! *photos of incident are also available.
I was pull out of my office parking lot and turned right on to a 1 lane road. As I turned right the lower ball joint dislodged from the control arm. It pull the drivers side transaxle with it and it tie rod ends. Slamming my car to a halt and almost causing an accident with the car behind me. The wheel faced left even though my car was still slighty turning right. This is a danger and a hazard, I've also heard this is serious problem amongst other cx-9 drivers. . . .
While driving vehicle on road at approximatley 20 mph the wheel detached from the axle on the front passenger side of the vehicle resulting in damage to the vehicle.
On 06 June 2015 at approximately 1400 my wife was making a left hand turn through an intersection at approximately 15 mph. Near the end of the turn the front passenger wheel broke loose turning nearly 90 degrees to the right and jammed itself into the rear of the fender well. The car was immediately immobilized and came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the intersection. Looking at the damage it was obvious that the lower ball joint had failed and broke completely free. This caused the wheel to turn nearly 90 degrees to the right which subsequently ripped out the cv axle from the transmission. Had this occurred at highway speeds the results could have been deadly. The vehicle had to be towed to a repair facility where the control arm/ball joint assembly, the cv shaft, and sway bar link was replaced. There is also fender well and body damage that will have to be repaired. On 10 July 2015, I noticed an unusual instability while negotiating wide turns on the highway. It felt as if the vehicle had a wheel loose. While turning to the right, the vehicle would abruptly turn even sharper to right almost causing an unintentional lane change. After coming out of the turn I could feel the vehicle suddenly correct itself. Once I arrived at my residence I jacked up the front end of the vehicle to inspect the front wheels. The front passenger wheel seemed normal (was repaired in June 2015 as mentioned above). Much to my dismay when inspecting the front driver side wheel, I discovered that the ball joint on this side is now broke. It is not separated, but is clearly broken as evidenced by the excessive movement and clunking noise when moving the wheel from side to side as it is suspended above the ground from the car being on a jack. I will be having this repaired this week once parts arrive from the local Mazda dealer. Bottom line: I no longer feel safe in this vehicle.
While making a right turn into a parking place, the right front ball joint broke and cv joint became disconnected, causing the wheel to become disconnected from the car and pushing the wheel well back under the passenger door, making it inoperable. The tow driver said I must have hit something really hard, but in the two and a half years I've had this car, I've never hit anything! I drive a lot for my job and am grateful this didn't happen while I was traveling 70 mph on the highway. It was very scary and has shaken my confidence in this car. I had the car repaired on an emergency basis, but the mechanic told me while the other ball joint was safe enough for me to make the trip home (350 miles), I should definitely get it checked out as well, as it looked suspect for the long term. The car is at the mechanic now, and I was a nervous wreck driving it home earlier today.
I had been hearing a knocking noise in my car when I went to make left or right hand turns for approximately a week. After having my mechanic investigate he took a look at the ball joints, they are 'non-serviceable,' which means they are a sealed unit. He said from what he could tell they were fine. Later that day I attempted to pull out of a parking space. My wheels were spinning in the snow, I got out and took a look and my front left tire was off! the ball joint was no longer attached the the car. The only thing securing the wheel to the car was the tie rod. After having it towed to my garage both lower control arms were replaced on the vehicle (one per side) along with the cv joint. They were replaced with Mazda parts. Inspection on the passenger right side revealed there was barely any grease in that ball joint. I had luck on my side that day otherwise I am certain someone would have died.
I have just learned about issues with the Mazda Cx9 and wheels falling off and I realized that is exactly what happened to me. I always took care of my cx 9 because I drive a lot for work and depend on my car very much, so when issues with the steering started I took it to sears for a wheel alignment since I had just replaced a new set of tires a couple of months before, it seemed ok after the alignment until again the small skip of the steering started every time I turn the wheel, I did think much of it until it started increasing. Every time I turned the wheel the skip was there, I decided to call my mechanic who always did all the car service and maintenance and he said to bring it in over the weekend to take a look, before I had the chance to bring it to him, as I was making a right turn the wheel came right off the transfer case and the arms, good thing I was just making a right turn, minutes before I was on the highway and I don't even want to think about what could have happened. . . I thought it had been just a freak accident and I was happy to be alive. I had the mechanic come and pick up the car from the street and after surveying the damages he had to replace both upper and lower arms on both sides and then he noticed that the transfer case had been damaged when the axel pulled away, so now we needed a new transfer case and it is not an easy job. Now that it is all done I found that it has happened many times, this is not right and makes me angry to know that the owners were not informed right away, I could have had my children in the car. .
When I bought the car I noted with the dealership that the front, wheels where squealing and skirting as you turn the corner at low speed, they seem to wear quickly as well since I've owned the vehicle (2012) and have had them replaced twice and realigned, also the following year after purchasing the car, when it snowed frequently, the abs light stayed on constantly and seemed to feel really gritty while pumping the breaks in the snow, causing the car not to break even at low speeds, there is a rattling every once in a while that became associated after the abs light came on, which is on to this day along with the tcs light, the transfer case failed and almost caused a terrible accident in 2014 as it began to whine and eventually locked up on me as I drove to work, the mechanic replaced both front wheel bearings thinking that it was also a problem but when I towed it back to them he confirmed that it was the transfer case, he repaired it this year but Mazda says its leaking again and it smells like oil. My car only has a little over 80k miles and I've researched complaints on the transfer case and many people seem to have the same problem, this is very dangerous and needs to be addressed ASAP. These three issues may be related to each other if someone really took the time to investigate. No way a car should have concerns like this consistently under 80k miles. I work only 18 minutes from my job and do not travel that much to wear this vehicle.
I was driving slowly and approaching a stop sign. As soon as I stopped I heard a loud noise and my car jerked forward. The front driver side wheel disengaged from the vehicle and was jutting out at an angle. I could not move the car whatsoever. The tow truck driver informed me that my ball joint and axle had broken. This could have caused a very serious accident, especially if we had been driving faster or on the freeway--I'm very lucky my passenger and I were not hurt.
