4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

Vehicle “surges” at idle. 300-500 rpms at a time. Sometimes the brakes hold and sometimes not. Have nearly been in 3 collisions the last 2 days because of this issue. The ecm codes indicate throttle body or tps issue, both of which have been unfounded. Vehicle has 63,000 miles. Researching this topic online found that many others have had this issue with no associated safety recalls noted. I am hoping to bring light to this so someone doesn’t have to be injured or killed to have this rectified.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 09/19/2023

As I am accelerating to merge onto the highway from an on-ramp, while the gas pedal is depressed, I will get a series of sensor alerts simultaneously (city brake malfunction, park assist malfunction, lane assist malfunction, etc. ) and my gas pedal becomes non-functional at 60-70mph. It is terrifying especially when there is other traffic around my vehicle. This exact issue has happened 6 times within the past 12-18 months at seemingly random intervals but always when I am accelerating onto the highway at 50-70mph. I typically pull off to the side of the highway and turn off the vehicle. After letting it sit off for ~30 seconds, I turn the vehicle back on and all of the sensor alerts have cleared and the vehicle functions properly including the gas pedal and I am able to rejoin the highway. I took the car to the Mazda dealership in my state of vermont a few months ago to have them diagnose and address the problem. They had never heard of this issue and were unable to find the root cause or fix it. Please help, this is dangerous!.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 06/06/2023

On the last week of may, my car started experiencing sputtering and stalling out problems. I made an appointment at Mazda dealership for June 6th. Meantime my husband checked all fluids and coolant was low so we topped up. Car was being driven very limited due to safety concerns. Then while driving on the freeway my car displayed a “excessive engine temperature, engine output will be limited” immediately my car reduced speed from about 65mph to under 15 mph while having my whole family including myself and 4 children in the car. We almost got hit by several cars while trying to get over to the shoulder. Once pulled over to the shoulder my husband came and followed me home on the back streets. Once again checked fluids and coolant again was back low this time empty. So in a day it completely had no coolant left. When taken into Mazda dealership for the appointment, customer service was so horrible I ended up leaving and taking my car to a 3rd party service center. Was advised to have a hydrocarbon test on cooling system that measured at zero, then advised to take it for a diagnostic due to the sputtering, stalling and coolant leak, where they ultimately determined the coolant was leaking into combustion chamber &/or intake system. Pressure test shows drop in pressure, no visible external leaks present. TSB# 01-002/23 pertaining to cylinder head assembly replacement. Now I’m waiting for my appointment at a different Mazda dealership on June 12th! please help.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 06/30/2022

Traveling on the highway going on a road trip. Had vehicle inspected prior and no fuel system problems were noted. I was going 75mph with my family when there was a coasting feeling in the car. I looked and my check engine light popped on and my car immediately would not accelerate and we quickly lost speed. By the grace of god were we able to pull over safely! code p0132 was the engine code and after an hour, the engine light went back off and we were able to keep a safe speed traveling home. After speaking with a mechanic and dealership, I learned that this was a common problem with the denso fuel system. My vehicle was not included in a recent recall that included a different year of my vehicle. If manufacturers are aware that a major defect is out there, how many people have to have an accident or potentially cause a huge accident because a car made 2 years prior with the same part from the same manufacturer has the same dangerous problem? it’s ridiculous and I hope you look at this near fatal issue that has effected thousands of people, whose vehicles’ were made in 2017, 2016, 2015 and are not included in the recall.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Mazda cx-9. While attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that there were no warning indicators before or after the failure. The brake pedal also became extremely difficult to depress. The vehicle was towed to continental Mazda (located at 2363 aurora Ave, naperville, IL 60540, (630) 352-5900) where it was diagnosed that coolant entered the engine oil and caused the engine to fail. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

I took my car to hall in brookfield WI to fix a recall issue. The dealer told me they fixed the recall issue but noticed another problem that requires the replacement of the differential bushings because they were torn. They charged me over $500 for this issue and I believe the issue was exasperated by the recall issue and I am not sure why I had to pay. I honestly believe it was a way for the dealer to charge me for the recall work because it was supposed to be free. I am attaching receipts for the work hall did to this complaint. Now my car is having issues with properly accelerating and is very loud.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 12/06/2015

I am reporting two incidents of engine revving that occurred without my foot on the accelerator. In the first incident (Sep 2015), I started the car in the driveway. After a couple seconds, the engine started revving really fast even though my foot was on the brake, not on the accelerator. I remained in park and turned off the ignition. After re-starting the car, everything behaved normally. In the second incident (Dec 6, 2015), I started the car, put it in reverse, and was backing up in a grocery store parking lot. The car suddenly acccelerated backward with the engine revving. I was able to stop it by depressing the brake hard, and then changed the transmission from reverse to drive. The revving stopped and the car drove normally after that. I felt lucky to have stopped the car, however, and it went backwards further and faster than wanted. I checked the floor mats and brake/accelerator area for any objects, and everything was in the correct place. I have not yet had the car evaluated by a mechanic or dealership, but now plan to do that soon.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

The transfer case is leaking and going to go completely out on my 2012 Mazda cx-9, I noticed the same gear shifting problem in my 2004 Mazda 6 wagon. The car feels like driving a stick, it jolts when shifting to drive and while moving it feels like it is shifting early. This is a known problem with Mazda but a recall is yet to surface for this issue.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I've purchased 2012 Mazda cx-9 awd it late November of 2011. Recently I've been experiencing multiple unexpected loss of power-assisted breaks failure incident . I was in a minor fender bendeer. Thank god the driver infront was very nice and didnt file any claim against my insurance. When I brought my vehicle into Mazda services department to get it resolve. Instead of taking unexpected loss of power-assisted brakes as an urgent matter. They told me that my car is drivable and it still break. I can drive my Mazda in the meanwhile, until they have an open appointment for my Mazda to be seen. After speaking to multiple personel at the services department. They were able to take my Mazda and fixed the unexpected loss of power-assisted brakes. Now im experiencing speed control and power train. I was at a stop light and my Mazda stalled in the middle of a left turning lane, in addtion to the stall incident, I was also experiencing the traction control light came on and the tire pressure monitor light began to flash. It felt like car had downshifted a couple of gears. I lost forward power in all gears. My sons and I came close to multiple rear-ended incident because of the mechanical issue of our Mazda Cx9. Please becareful when deciding to purchased your Mazda vehicle.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

I was driving around a sharp bend in the road. I pushed down on the brake peddle to slow down and the car kept accelerating at the same speed. The car never slowed down and I had to take the corner at a unsafe speed. I drove to the next street and tested the brakes and they worked fine? very scary incident.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

I am unsure of the first date of occurrence, but the following have been happening since I purchased this vehicle new with 12 miles on it. And the dealer can't find anything wrong with it. 1. The ac always comes on. Even when it's below zero outside. 2. It fails to go when pushing on the accelerator frequently, and especially in reverse, from a stopped position, until you really push hard on the accelerator causing it jump. 3. Last Friday 2/21/2014 as I was on a ramp moving from one interstate to another, the engine continued to rev up even after I let off the gas, and pushed the brake. This is not the first occurrence of this, it's actually happened at least 10-12 times. It was definitely the most scary, as I thought I was going over the side of the ramp or into the semi in front of me for a minute or so. 4. The brakes squeak loudly when it's cold. 5. The brakes are either really sensitive, or you have to stomp them to get them to work, so since you don't know which it's going to be you're likely to jerk yourself and your passengers around a lot. 6. The vehicle pulls to one side or the other, which would seem to indicate that an alignment is needed, however, it can't pick which side it's going to gravitate towards which leads me to believe it's something in the steering.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

While driving my 2010 Mazda cx-9 approximately 65mph on interstate 270s in maryland, I pressed the gas pedal to accelerate in an attempt to pass several vehicles who were traveling in the right hand lane. Once I felt that I had enough additional speed to successfully pass the vehicles, I released the gas pedal and noted that the car continued to accelerate. I attempted to apply my brakes, but they would not slow the vehicle. After several unsuccessful attempts to apply my brakes, I searched for a safe place to continue traveling as my vehicle continued to accelerate, noting I would need to shift into neutral and move into the median. Luckily, after numerous repeated attempts, my brakes finally engaged and slowed the vehicle. I feel this is a manufacturer's defect that could ultimately lead to a fatality. I am too scared to drive the vehicle at this point in time.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda cx-9. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle surged forward uncontrollably. The contact was able to eventually stop the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 17,000. The VIN was unavailable.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

The first time I experienced this terrifying ordeal was in November of 2011. Since then, I have had it happen two more times. The car accelerates of up to speeds of 90 mph without warning . All 3 incidents have happened on the highway. The brakes slow it down, but do not stop it. All 3 times, I've been lucky enough to get the car to the shoulder and ride down the median , pushing the emergency break in and at one point pushing it into park. Mazda knows about this. Therefore they are liable. Mazda will tell you it's a throttle problem, they will tell you there is no wear on the brakes. . . . Well, that's because when the car does this unexpected acceleration, the brakes only go part way. . Almost like pushing against air. This is a serious problem with the computer and possibly throttle combined. My car is not fixed, it's also doing other stuff. Mazda wants me to keep this car and drive it. They are giants, so the little person like me does not matter to them it's the $$$$. But when someone dies, it will cost them $$$$$$$$$$. There needs to be a recall. I hope more people come forward. It could save your life or/and someone you love and other drivers on the road who are in danger of you hurting/killing them. My Mazda dealership have wonderful people who work there. They are very unhappy with Mazda not taking care of this problem. I want to make this clear, it's Mazda corp that is aware and doing nothing and they hold the Mazda dealers hostage.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Took my car to dealer 2-3 times for the brakes, way before my warranty was any where near expiring, because I kept hearing a grinding sound. They kept telling me nothing was wrong, that my brakes had some gravel on them and they just cleaned them. I don't travel on dirt roads or anything, city roads/highways. No out of town travel at all, actual only in town travel, home/work. My 2nd concern is, while driving sometimes my speed seems to shift, as if the gears are shifting. 3rd concern is, I received a recall notice, don't recall what it was about but I took it to the dealership and I was told they done that work last time I came in but I don't believe it was done, since they haven't been honest with me before. They didn't even look at the letter. If I recall correctly brake complaints/ service started 2011 or 2012 to 2014. . . .
