Airbag light is on. . . . . Lost power steering at only 110,000 miles. . . Abs break system not working.
While driving my car I completely lost my power steering going about 55 mph, we live in a very rural curvey area. At other times I have been going in reverse or driving and my car would shake and just shut off! this. Would happen would turning onto. The road or going down the road. It happened at different speeds. Sometimes the car would instantly start back up or I would have to push the car in a safe area (if possible) and wait. I have a 5 month old and 8 year old son having a reliable car is extreme priority for us, I'm so scared of my car. We do normal maintenance and I took it in to be looked at when it shut off and the mechanic couldnt find anything noticeable. He said I would basically have to just start replacing parts and see which part fixes the problem.
I was driving my 2008 Mazda 3 on I-75 on 3/22/2011 when I suddenly lost the power steering and the car became impossible to steer. I continued drifting to the right uncontrollably, struck a road sign, and unltimately ended up in a ditch. This all occured 12 days after I took the car to the Mazda dealership to replace the recalled power steering pump. I don't understand how this can happen only 12 days after the power steering pump and pump line were replaced. I wonder if the pump had indeed been replaced or if a new pump was installed correctly. Or maybe the new pump is just as defective as the old pump!!! it will cost $8,000-$10,000 to repair the damage and I am now resposible for the $1,000 insurance deductible. The only good news is that the side impact and head airbags were deployed and that I was not injured badly. I feel that Mazda should be held responsible and should be ashamed of how they have handeled this recall. I have read many of the complaints on this site and others and there is no question in my mind that this accident was caused by the failure of the power steering system.
Power steering light on dash came on then loss of power steering leading to heavy steering. According to owners manual, we were advised to turn off the engine, then back on. Even then, the light came on again and I lost power steering again, leading to very heavy steering. After those two incidents the power steering seems to be working ok. There is plenty of power steering fluid in the reservoir. I called Mazda dealership and explained the issue in detail and was told there is no problem, especially because the light is now off and normal steering resumed - he advised there is no need to bring in the car. This is a safety hazard, especially for someone like my wife who lacks upper body strength. The effort required to turn the wheel without power steering is a lot, even for a man like me. Slow speed steering is almost impossible without power steering.
I was driving on the freeway at rush hour and my power steering light came on. Within seconds I lost power steering and my car was incredibly hard to steer off of the road. I had it towed to a mechanic and he called today to say that the light is out now and the car is driving fine. He doesn't know what happened. My car only has 48,000 miles and I am afraid that this will happen again with dire consequences. I will take it to the dealer on Monday. My sister also has a 2008 Mazda3 and she also had power steering failure last year at 35,000 miles which the dealership fixed under the warranty. This is a serious safety concern. Please do something!!.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Mazda 3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65mph the power steering warning light illuminated and she lost all power steering function. The vehicle was driven home and when she restarted the vehicle the light was off and the power steering functioned normally. The failure recurred yesterday on the highway in heavy traffic. The vehicle was dropped off at a Mazda dealer for repairs. They stated the vehicle was not under warranty and the repairs would be done at the owners expense. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. The current mileage is approximately 38,000. Rd.
2008 Mazda 3 5 door, approximately 39,000 miles. Driving on interstate in heavy traffic at ~10 mph. Heard a clunk-like noise and the power steering warning light came on. Realized I had lost power steering. Pulled into a service station, checked fluid and belts. Nothing looked to be wrong from the outside. After 20 minutes or so, re-started car and power steering had been restored. No similar problem since.
While driving my '08 Mazda3 5-door, 2. 3l on the i80/94 expressway in stop and go construction traffic, I lost power steering. Idiot light came on. Was able to steer car home; just no power steering. Per owner's manual restarted car and problem was gone. Power steering has not been a problem since. Happened with about 36,000 miles on car.
Loss of power steering: (2 times) -- on two different occasions I had lost the power steering in my 2008 Mazda 3. The first time was during the summer of 2009. After the car was idling for about 10 minutes, I went to drive off and there was no power steering. I turned the car off and checked the belts. Everything seemed fine. I then started the car and the steering was working like normal. The second time was in April of 2010. I was in stop and go traffic for a little while. After the traffic cleared I was getting up to speed and steering became very difficult to steer. I pulled over, shut the car off and restarted a few minutes later. Steering was back to normal. I brought my car into the dealership for scheduled oil change a few days later and told them about my steering incident. They looked at the power steering components and noticed an issue. ¿ the dealer kept the car a few days for the new power steering component part to come in. They replaced the part and gave me a loaner vehicle free of charge.
