1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/20/2020

The fuel sender unit, located in top of the fuel tank, has developed a crack and is causing fuel to leak. The nipple that protrudes from the fuel pump has cracked from what looks to be pressure from the connecting fuel hose. Because of this pressure, the nipple leaks and sprays a mist of fuel off to the side. The pressure looks to be towards the passenger side as the crack that developed was directly on the opposite side(drivers). This type of fuel leak can be very dangerous as the fuel tank is located near exhaust components. Upon researching the issue, this looks to be fairly common in many Mazda 3 variant from 2006 and on.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

July 2018 I noticed the rear passenger wheel getting really hot and making a popping sound after driving it on hot pavement. The brake caliper was stuck and I had to get a new rotor, rear driver's brake caliper and new brake pads. I had to wait 3 weeks for the caliper to come in. The mechanic said it was odd all the other calipers were available for immediate delivery except the rear passenger one. We looked online and noticed a recall but my VIN was not included. Fast forward 1 year - August 2019, I was smelling fuel around the driver's wheel well and inside the vehicle after fill up. I didn't notice any fuel leaking onto the ground underneath the car. I took the car to my mechanic and there is a fuel leak coming from the seem of the gas tank. The whole tank has to be replaced and possibly the fuel pump. Once again I have another wait for the parts from Mazda - at least a week. These are 2 very expensive repairs in the matter of a little over a year for a car with 30,000 miles on it. He said when he looked under the back seat he couldn't believe how much fuel leaked out. He said from looking online, my car should have been recalled for both of these incidents since other models of the same year were. I contacted Mazda corporate about each of these issues and they tell me my vehicle was not impacted by the recall and there is nothing they can do since it's no longer under warranty.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

I started noticing a strong smell of gasoline inside the car whenever I turned on ac. I thought it could be because of some leak but there was no leak anywhere outside the car. I have been using the car for the commute just within the city limits. When the smell continued to exist I took it to earnhardt Mazda dealership in scottsdale az where I was told that it could be a problem with the fuel pump and it needs to be replaced. But to make sure I went to firestone as well where it was confirmed that the fuel pump has a leak and needs replacement. I had to stop driving this car further because I was told that this can be dangerous. This car never went through any crash and has been maintained regularly. The summers in az are really hot so I'm not sure if this could have caused the problem. Is there any chance that Mazda can investigate this and provide a replacement for this component?.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/27/2017

My brake light housing is melted on both sides. The brake light bulb is melted into the brake light sockets on both the left and right brake lights. I noticed while driving in the city and cars were flagging me to tell me my brake lights are out. I pulled into a auto shop to check and both sides were melted. I had my car since 2013 and everything was original stock. My check engine light flashes and when I had it checked they said it may be faulty fuel pump, because that's the only code that shows and I already had everything replaced. My car very frequently stalls out (highways and city streets) even after replacing the fuel pump and O2 sensor. The passenger airbag light flickers frequently, with and without passengers.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

On 8/5/16 the vehicle was bought into a Mazda dealer for a gasoline odor & engine code # po455. It was determined that a split fuel pump retaining allowed the fuel pump to separate from the fuel tank causing gasoline to leak. Fortunately the vehicle did not catch on fire. Thank goodness. I may not have had a son today. The repair came to over $500. 00. Mazda does not feel obligated to cover the full cost. In my opinion this is not a maintenance item but a definite safety defect.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Engine light came on with evap leak code. Small leak at first then included large leak code later. Also began to notice strong gas smell outside vehicle after fueling. Turned out the fuel pump ring that holds down and seals fuel pump to fuel tank had cracked. Over time the split became larger. When tank was filled, raw fuel would leak out around pump on top of tank. Which also happens to be right under the rear seat where me kids sit. Replacement was expensive because the ring could not be removed from under the seat. It required dropping the tank to repair. Mechanic felt it was a stress crack. The fuel pump had never been worked on before. The original ring was installed at the factory.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/22/2005

(1) I purchased my 2004 Mazda 3s in March of 2004. I have enjoyed it virtually maintenance free (besides routine) for over 1 year. (2) in April of 2005, I turned the key to start the car. It hesitated for over 10 seconds and finally turned over. I was alarmed, and after a few more times of this happening, I called my dealership immediately. (3) it was decided by the service department that it was the fuel pump. I received a new fuel pump (under warranty) and after a week, it started doing it again. I called the dealership again, and my car went back into the shop. They cleaned the battery, and all of the connections, ruling out a possible electric problem. It was okay, then it started doing it again. I had it in for the third time, and the service manager said the fuel pump they used to replace the original must have been of the same poor quality, so fuel pump #3 went in. Well, when I started the car to drive it out of the service lot, it hesitated again! I sat in my car and cried. I went right back into the service dept. , and asked them to take care of it. They said since it ran fine, it was only the starting issue, it was okay to drive 700 miles round trip to massachusetts (my previously planned weekend trip) and they'd see me when I returned. Well, it survived the drive, and I had the chance to refill the fuel tank 3 whole times with 2 different types of gas than I normally use. It still hesitiated a lot, but was acting the same. I drove it straight to the shop that Wednesday afternoon after I returned to PA, and just received a call today that the technician from japan was looking at it, and decided it needed a new fuel pump. Yes, fuel pump #4! I am beyond fed up with this car, and I am contacting the PA lemon law attorneys to see what they can do despite the fact that my car is over 12 months and 12,000 miles old. (p. S. I am also experiencing the rotor wear problems, but I'm taking care of one problem at a time. Maybe Mazda will buy this sucker back!).

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/11/2004

2004 Mazda 3 hatchback has problems with starting. The dealership replaced the fuel pump because it was taking upwards of 8 seconds and 2 attempts before car would start. The car had 643 miles when I took it in. The problem is that it is starting to happen again. It would take up to 4 seconds to start, which is not normal for a new car. Another problem is that there is a vibration when braking. Also there is rattle somewhere in the dash of the car.
