The vehicle will randomly and sporadically speed up and the rpms increase unexpectedly when the clutch is released after downshifting from 3rd to 2nd or 4th to 3rd. Mostly from 3rd to 2nd. The vehicle really pulls forward and does not slow down when this is happening. Instinct is to jump the brake, which slows the car, decreases the rpms and appears to stop the incident. This is a definite safety concern, especially with snowy, icy roads just around the corner. I have been unable to replicate this as it is sporadic. This has happened numerous times since first driving this vehicle June, 02, 2012. Mileage, speed and date of occurrence entered are approximates as several incidents occurred prior to the start of documenting each one. The state and zip code entered in the address information is the closet one to me. I live in canada and have not been able to find a national site to formally lodge a complaint.
On 2 occasions I was completely stopped, for a red light and stop sign, when the engine revved on its own and the car lurched forward. Felt like I was pushing brake pedal through the floor to stop it but it recovered on its own after several seconds. Very scary. I am afraid of hitting a car or someone. At the Mazda dealer now and has been for a week as they try to find out the problem.

Many times but sporadically over the last two years my Mazda 3, when coming to a stop and foot firmly on the brake will have a sudden surge in rpm between 1200-2500 rpm and try to accelerate. Seems to happen most often first thing in the morning more often. Because I am constantly ready there has been no crash, though the time rpms reached 2500 I had difficulty stopping the car, on a freeway on ramp where sudden deceleration was needed. I have found that one pump of the break alleviates the problem if there is room to do so.
On 11/4, I was on my way to meet my yoga classmate for lunch at 1917 bistro. The restaurants parking lot was full. So, I backed out and circled the block to find another parking space. When driving on livernois I noticed a parking lot thats why I decided to go back around. I pulled into the first empty parking lot which I thought was better than trying to parallel parking in the one space on the street. So, I turned into a graveled parking lot. I made a left then began to pull up to the parking space but the car accelerated and smashed into a building. The car would not stop so I shifted the car into reverse. The car jerked back wildly; it was hard to handle but I got the car to stop. A man came out of the wig shop. I was standing outside of the car examining the damage - white paint from the building and a slight puck on both sides of the bumper. The man looked at me incredulously because he said the impact shook theshop . His mouth was open and it took him a few minutes to close it. A woman came out also because she felt the impact in the shop next to the man's shop. There were no witnesses to my acceleration problem. I did not report the incident because I did not see a police officer (it's detroit). After lunch, I drove back home and sent Mazda an email. I heard from Mazda Friday morning. The car was towed to the dealer in troy. I spoke to amir about the incident and told him that the car was on its way into the dealership (by the way, I even have my oil change at the dealership). When the car arrived I received a call from scott bryant who, in an accusatory manner asked me to repeat what happened despite amir telling him my story. He warned me that it will take all afternoon to look at the car. Scott called later to inform me that a field engineer will be coming in on Monday to look at the car. He did not offer me a rental.
The contact owns a 2008 Mazda Mazda3. While the vehicle was at a traffic light it accelerated with both feet on the brake pedal. She attempted to shift the vehicle in reverse but it continued to accelerate and move forward. When she turned the vehicle off, it lunged forward and crashed into the vehicle in front of her. The driver of the other vehicle did not realize it since it made such a minimal impact. She restarted the vehicle and drove onto the emergency lane. She restarted the vehicle several times to see if the failure would happen again and it did not. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure and current mileages were 41,600.

Started vehicle (2006 Mazda3) parked on a residential street and lightly applied gas to pull away from curb. Vehicle lunged forward rapidly and engine revved quickly and loudly. Tried to apply brakes, but they did not seem to respond or may not have had enough time to respond. Collided with a truck parked across the street 1 house down from start location. The impact was enough to lift the truck f150 up and onto the curb it was parked next to, along with damaging the axle area of the f150. The Mazda3 lost part of the frontend on the roadway due to getting wedged under the truck. The car had lunged forward like this on one occasion in the previous week, but was able to be recovered without incident.

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda3. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idle, it would lunge forward and the rpms would increase. The failure occurred intermittently. The contact was forced to push the shut off button to stop the vehicle from moving forward. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The VIN was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 14,000. The failure mileage was 600.
I was stopped with the car running in drive and stepping on the brake pedal only, when the engine began revving uncontrollably. This resulted in increasingly high rpms, and it felt as if the car was about to lurch forward. I ended up turning off the car, and re-starting it. This is an intermittent problem that has happened a total of 3 times, each time while in a stopped position. I purchased the car the end of March 2010. First occurrence happened prior to 6/3/10, and the third, most recent occurrence, happened on 8/26/10. Mazda has installed a data recorder to attempt to record the problem, but now they want to remove it before the problem has re-occurred.
I own a 2008 Mazda 3. On this particular mode of Mazda the brake and gas pedals are less than 1/4 inch from each other. I have been in numerous near misses with several cars, the most recent being today because alot of times when you go to step on the brake pedal you get the gas at the same time because they are so close together.
Since I have purchased my vehicle I have to get the alignment done as often as I get the oil change done. When you are going over 45 mph the steering wheel shakes like you are driving a 4 x 4. There is also a horrible roaring once you get to 45 mph. The roaring and shaking goes away right after I have my car aligned, but, after a couple of weeks it starts coming back. I have changed the type of tires that I put on my car thinking it may help, but, it does not seem to be any different with the different type of tires I have put on my car.
The contact owns a 2009 Mazda 3. The contact stated that the vehicle hestiates to accelerate approximately 1 1/2 quarter to 1 1/4 before the vehicle moved. The failure has been occurring since August of 2008. The vehicle has been taken to the auto shop twice for the issue and each time the contact is advised that it is a normal occurrence and not a safety issue. The contact disagrees because those seconds make the difference if a crash were to occur. Failure mileage was 1000. 4/01/09
the consumer stated the vehicle began to hesitate when he stepped on the gas. Updated 04/09/09.

On 2/08/2007 my newly purchased Mazda 3 was running for 45 minutes at 40 miles per hour and the engine raced. On 2/16/2007, the engine raced again and the car switched from first gear to 5th gear in 1 second while the engine raced. On 2/19/2007, the brakes failed to stop, narrowly avoiding an accident while the engine raced. The car was put in park and the engine raced again. Earlier that same day, the car changed from first gear to fifth gear and then to second gear while making a clicking sound. When it was checked out by the Mazda dealership, they said there was nothing wrong with the car. This car could have caused a horrific accident and still could.
Request for reimbursement for replacement of vehicle. The engine and power transmission shifted hard from 3rd to 4th gear and while doing so there was subsequent over -rev of the engine at any speed while in 4th gear when the accelerator was depressed in 4th gear. This would become a no-control situation.

2006 Mazda 3 lurched forward the consumer stated the vehicle was only a few months old, when she backed out of a parking space to let another vehicle get out, when suddenly the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a lamp post. When she put the vehicle into drive, it lurched forward and then accelerated through the path she had backed out of and crashed through the window of a convenience store.
