The parking brake failed. Manual transmission. The vehicle was left stationary, parked in a parking lot on only a very slight incline. The parking brake lever was pulled up and engaged, the vehicle not moving as all occupants exited the vehicle and walked away. Upon returning to the parking lot about 15 minutes later the vehicle was found to have rolled back and across the entire parking lot, stopped by its hitting a curb.

2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda 5. While driving approximately 62 mph with the cruise control activated, the brake pedal failed to operate. The contact applied the emergency brake, pulled the clutch, and the cruise control was deactivated in order for the vehicle to brake. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

Failure Date: 05/23/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda5. While driving between 35-40 mph, the brakes failed. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the right and left in order to slow down. The vehicle stopped and the contact exited. She noticed smoke and flames underneath the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the flames. After the investigation, the fire department could not determine the cause of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 44,000.
