I bought this vehicle as is, about 2 months past, after driving it home I felt after pressing the brakes pedal that it is not responding until I press 2 or 3 times. I went bnack to the dealer the next day and made a complain. They sent me to their mechanic who diagnosed the problem to be the abs hydraulic control unit assembly. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of my family was put at risk because of the fact that I have to pump the brakes to slow the vehicle. Yes the problem was confirmed by the independent mechanic recomended by the dealer, with a detailed estimate. No inspection was performed by the manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. The service light was on from the day I bought the vehicle.

Power steering became stiff hard to turn, steering pulls left or right when driving over bumps on the road also brakes became spongy.
The contact owns a 2012 Mazda mz5. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

The tcm failed on the car and it is a very common thing. The design set the module in a location that overheats and malfunctions when connection is lost with mechanisms that warp under heat, the cost to repair at the dealership was extremely expensive.

During July of 2021 brake pedal went all the way down with no braking. Pumping the pedal restored braking. After the 3rd incident, had the master cylinder replaced on July 30, 2021 by certified mechanics. Brakes seemed fine, but on Aug 11, 2021 brake pedal went all the way down producing no braking on 3 occasions. Pumping the pedal restored braking. Took vehicle back to garage. Mechanics have not gotten it to fail. Possible new parts are bad? could anti lock brake system cause this? its been a really good car for 155,000 miles, but now I'm afraid to drive it.
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda5. The contact stated that while driving over a minor bump in the roadway at any rate of speed, the brake pedal would depress to floorboard without warning. The contact stated that the brakes would resume normal operation soon after failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to three separate independent mechanics however, each mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
I have gone to multiple mechanics with no help. My vehicle surges or revs any time the ac is on to the point that the vehicle lunges forward even when my foot is on the brake. This occurs in neutral, drive and park. It specifically occurs when I am slowing down, stopping, or coasting at a low speed. It also jerks when in drive but not applying the gas, then revs with no warning. No check engine or other lights are coming on. I have been on several Mazda forums and this seems to be a recurring issue wth this vehicle. It has caused me to hit a wall (I was slowing down, coming into a parking space) and my neighbors vehicle as I was waiting to turn right out of our condos.
There are two safety issues with this Mini van. The first one is for the door handles/latches on the back sliding doors on drivers and passenger side. There was a recall for it and apparently it was fixed in 2009 but has been a problem again that is getting worse. When I try to open the door to get my child out the door handle does not engage, I have to try to open from inside and sometimes that does nto engage, so then I have to slide the lock back and forth and continue to try to open the door until it finally opens. This obviously is a big safety problem if we were ever to be in an accident etc. I called Mazda and they said recall is closed and they can not help me unless I want to pay diagnostic fee of 140 and then whatever the repair is on top of that. The second problem is the brakes. They do not work well under ideal conditions, but when it rains sometimes they stop working all together. I've almost been in an accident several times when they suddnely go soft and just stop working. I have to continuously pump the brakes to try to get any traction and then stop driving until they dry out. We've had the entire brake system replaced and mechanics say nothing is wrong, but obviously this is just a bad design and something is definitely wrong. We can't afford a new car but don't' feel safe in this car, not sure what to do about it.

When applying the brakes, the vehicle often has a clunking sound and a slight / brief hesitation before the brakes engage. The vehicle is in motion when this occurs. I've had the issue inspected on multiple occasions (4-5 times) and was told there is nothing wrong with the brakes. I was informed that it is possible that it is by design which is what led me to submit this request. The issue happens approximately 75-80% of the time. I did not notice this issue when the vehicle was purchased (new in Jan, 2015) but noticed it approximately 2 years after purchase. Since then the issue has gradually increased in frequency and happens not every time the brakes are used but happens often each time the vehicle is driven. The date of occurence below does not apply since it happens every day and is still occurring. Also, the speed and the mileage doesn't apply since it happens at all speeds and has happened regularly since about 79000 miles.
Brake pedal spongy after abs system activated, seem like abs control unit fault pump air in brake system. It is a safety issues with a lot of Mazda model. Mazda had to do some before something bad, accident happens.

The contact owns a 2012 Mazda 5. While driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. A local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the anti lock brake system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Mazda mz5. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph without warning the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floor board. The failure caused the contact to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The contact stated that both air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the passenger in the vehicle sustained injury to the chest from the seat belt which required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000. Ah.
I was driving and break slowly and the engine just shut off on me. I was able to start the car again. There is not a warning at all but just stop anytime that it want too.

The emergency brakes of Mazda 5 do not work. My car slid off while parked and crashed against a mailbox. Both car and mailbox were damaged. Mazda claims it is not responsible as it states in its manual that you need to always leave the car on gear when you park even on a flat landscape. However (1) shouldn't the emergency brake still work and (2) doesn't leaving the car on gear when you park damage quicker the gear box and brakes? other Mazda 5 car owners also complain that they really have to pull hard twice or three times on the emergency brakes so that is stops clicking. This is a safety issue and Mazda 5 cars should be recalled.
I was driving home after dropping my three children off at school. The road that I live on is woodlake pkwy and the speed limit is fourty-five mph. A lady in a car pulled out in front of me from a subdivision on my right, she was headed in my opposite direction. I hit her as I attempted to swerve and miss her only projecting me further and faster to my left where there were two sets of trees and bushes. After the initial collision I then fought my way through trees realizing I had no brakes I slammed down the brakes and landed on some tree stubs 150 ft away from the crash site. My airbags never deployed.
2012 Mazda5. Brought the car to the dealer, told them about the vibration and thumping noise coming from the brakes / tires. They said the tires balances fine and could not find any issues. Driving down the highway, at 70 mph. Had to hit the brakes hard, had a terrible vibration from the hitting the brakes/tires. I had the tires look into at 18,000 miles, they said no problem, then at 22,000, cant find any issues, they said that these tires wear fast and that's the way the low profile tires are, now I will take it in at 25,000 miles and see what they say, tread wear is terrible, at 18,000 miles it was down to 5/32 tread. I know that there is some type of belt separation in the tires, traction is also terrible in the snow and rain, tires are toyo proxes a18.
Starting a few months ago, my steering wheel shimmied as I was braking. It was intermittent. In may, the shaking disappeared but a slight grinding sensation(no noise) could be felt when I applied the brake pedal. I didn't think is was a brake wear problem since the car was relatively new and I live in a flat area with no unusual stress on the brakes. I was on vacation for a few months and did not drive the car. My husband drove it once and felt it wasn't safe to drive because of weak braking. I took it to the dealer when I returned. My braking distance was double of what it used to be. I felt unsafe driving the car the 5 miles to the dealership. The dealer seemed to know that Mazda would probably fix the issue even though brake issues are usually considered normal wear and tear. I was told that Mazda did fix the problem at no charge and that there had been a design flaw with the 2012 Mazda5's rotors. I was told they were too thin in the original design and thus wore out quickly. They also indicated they had fixed it in more recent models. I feel that this should have been a formal recall. The car rapidly went from a intermittent bother to a true safety issue. I continually worried that I might have to stop quickly and would not be able to.
I had 3,000 miles on my 2012 Mazda 5 when I first complained to a Mazda dealer that my car would wobble when going forward into a right turn and in reverse when making a left turn. 'something' would always correct the problem for a while when I complained during multiple oil changes. Recently at 25,000 miles a dealer finally told me my rotors were out of round so they were going to ground them down to make them straight. I requested a replacement but they said no. I would not expect nor have I ever seen rotors wear down before years of service. There is now a perception of skidding for a second when I go around a corner that I have felt twice since the rotors were supposedly made even. The car is under warranty. Has anyone else had this problem? is this a safety issue? I feel unsafe as the car has always had a balance problem. The dealer I bought the car from said he doesn't feel or see a problem and refuses to replace the rotors even though the problem has been there since I bought the car. Is there anything I need to worry about or do?.
When the vehicle is at a stop at a street light the brake pedal will drop to the floorboard. Has happen intermittently 3 times. Took new car to dealer and they could not duplicate issue and was told by service rep that this issue will happen if your are standing for long periods of time with the brake on or too much pressure on brake pedal.
Drivers side floormat retention hole separates after < 5000 miles allowing mat to move forward so that clutch pedal catches on mat. When clutch pedal released it picks up the mat so that next time the clutch is pedal is pressed the mat also catches on the brake pedal causing unexpected braking.

I have been informed that the rotors on my 2007 Mazda 5 need to be turned because they overheat and cause warping. It is not reasonable that rotors must be turned at about 17000 miles, I have seen on the web the numerous complaints about similar situation. They state that the rotors are a normal wear item and thus not covered. I have had many vehicles throughout my life and this quality and life of these rotors are unacceptable, vehicles average well over 30,000 miles before any type of maintenance must be performed.
