Air Conditioner Problems of Mazda Protege

Air conditioning has been getting less and less cool. Took vehicle to dealer and they indicated the evaporator was leaking and part would cost 561. 12 out of warranty. 2 months prior the condenser went out and replaced under warranty.

Contact stated the air conditioner was not working when put on a higher fan setting. Consumer looked behind the dash and connector was starting to melt.

Consumer states that he was wondering why he was getting such poor gas mileage. He then took his vehicle to his private mechanic since he lives about 65-70 from the nearest Mazda dealer. He thinks that this is a defect, because he also thinks that it is because of some mis-wiring. . Read more...

Strong heavy fumes entered vehicle, causing driver and passenger to become nauseated. Consumer has gotten mixed diagnosis of what the cause could be. Dealer's technican believed some substance leaking from engine and dashboard compartment caused fumes to enter vehicle while air conditioning was on. Consumer lived in a hot climate area that required air conditioning to run a lot. Mazda never heard of complaint, and believed fumes might come from interior. Mazda didn't have a remedy.

Air conditioner and heating fan do not work.

During installation of a/c unit o-ring was punctured causing leakage, replacement unit is noisy. Yh.

The summer of 97 the air conditioner had to have an o-ring replaced and it had to be recharged for it to cool properly. On July 7, 1998 the same thing happened again(same type of repair).

Air conditioner coil failed.

After vehicle reached 20,000 miles it has a very hard vibration in the front end when the air conditioner is activated. Dealer has been contacted.

The compressor for the air conditioner is in a bad place. I was told my vehicle was not covered under the warranty because a rock hit the compressor. Somehow I feel this is a crock and a way for Mazda to get out of honoring the warranty.
