49 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Cracks in the dash immediately above the passenger airbag which is currently a recall issue. It seems that a large number of Rx8 experience cracking in the same spot on the dash, generally following an "h" shape. Reports are that the cracks follow the airbag module assembly underneath the dash, and the cracks follow the seam that would be created in an impact for the airbag to deploy. In my case it began with a 4" left to right crack. In 2015 a recall was performed involving a temporary airbag fix until a permanent fix could be designed. After this interim airbag recall was performed, the cracks intensified. Just received another recall notice that the "final" airbag fix is ready to be performed at the dealer which with all the removal and jostling of the dash to make the final airbag repair, will probably create more cracks. The recall was due to the possibility that airbag parts could become projectiles and cause injury. Would not a poorly designed dash simply break into pieces upon airbag deployment and become projectiles and injury? numerous Rx8 owners are seeing nearly identical h shaped cracks.

53 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 02/14/2015

After receiving a letter and verifying with the Mazdausa website it was determined that my RX-8 had a safety recall associated with the airbag. I contacted two separate Mazda dealers about this issue. Their response was less than undesirable. They first informed me that there were no parts available to affect repairs. After I requested a safe loaner vehicle until repairs could be made, my request was denied. So, Mazda has no parts to make repairs and they are unwilling to supply the vehicle owners with safe alternatives. I am writing to inform you that Mazda is not executing your mandated recall properly and is placing lives of numerous drivers at risk. Chris.

59 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Crack appeared in the dash where the passenger air bag is contained. The crack started several months ago and the car is not garaged and is in the sun all day so I thought it might be caused by the sun. I live in georgia and this car originally came from the port authority in florida where it is also very hot. My VIN number is included in the range of "potentially affected vehicles" in the 14v-344 letter dated June 20, 2014, written to ms nancy lewis of the national highway traffic safety administration and was signed by david robertson, group manager, of environmental, safety & powertrain engineering, Mazda north american operations. I printed a copy of that letter and will also contact Mazda to see when they plan to initiate an action. I am asking nancy lewis the same question here. Is my family and the people with the cracks in their dashes in danger?.

60 Air Bag problem of the 2005 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

There is a material defect with the dash panel over the passenger air bag, now with the weather getting colder there are cracks in the dash panel and every morning the cracks get longer or new ones start. With the way it's cracking if the air bag deploys the panel will not just split open but may could up throwing chunks of plastic at the occupants. Contacted Mazda directly but since she didn't see any bulletins or recalls for this issue she pretty much didn't care. I wish more people would file complaints because I have seen this problem in almost all other Rx8's I've been in.

61 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Mazda customer experience representative and recall coordinator: this is at least the 5th time I have contacted Mazdausa regarding the faulty air bags issue affecting my 2004 RX-8. Your organization's boiler plate responses that I have received are unacceptable. I expect this issue to be fully addressed and my affected air bags to be replaced as soon as possible. I am the original owner of the vehicle first registered in CA, a hot and humid state. Throughout the last 10 years, my car has been driven and garaged in many states across the nation that are hot and/or humid, including new york and nevada. My car is in very good condition, air bags not withstanding, and I expect to operate it for many more years. However, I will not continually drive a car with defective and lethal air bags. It has been widely known that takata has been aware of their air bag defects since 2001. Continued denial by Mazdausa to add my vehicle to its current air bag recall campaign is very troublesome. Air bag equipment are designed to save lives, not end or maim them. I feet there should be no discrimination of vehicles in Mazda's perceived geographical location of its air bag recall. All affected vehicles on the list as provided by the NHTSA website, at all geographic locations, must be included immediately. This concern has been filed with the NHTSA. I expect immediate action on your part to correct this blatantly incomplete recall campaign. Thank you for your attention.

My passenger side dashboard over the airbag is cracked really bad like you can see the air bag I am afraid to have anyone in the passenger seat I feel like it is going to set the air bag off for no reason the dealership is telling me its going to cost around 700. 00 to fix I have done some research on this it seems to be a common problem with this car.

69 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Dash has several cracks over airbag. Cracking started soon after warranty was null. Airbag has recall, but Mazda expects owners to pay $500 for this defective part. Will replace airbag and re-install same cracked dash. Very dangerous in crash situation as small fragments may enter passengers face and upper body. Seems to be a problem with Rx8's according to Mazda mechanic.

70 Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mazda RX8

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

On my 2007 Rx8 right dashboard passenger airbag has cracked and had made the shape of the airbag. Looks like the airbag can deploy at any given moment and can cause serious injury to driver and passenger. The dealership or manufacture will not take responsibility in fixing or correcting the problem. There are hundreds of complaints about this problem and I don't understand why a recall has not been issued. My car has been in the garage since I purchased it so sun is not the cause of this problem. I would like to know what I can do about this problem and how can I get the manufacture to repair and take responsibility before someone is seriously injured or killed.
