The contact owns a 2005 Mazda Tribute. The failure first occurred when the vehicle was purchased in 2012. While driving at low speeds, the motherboard blew out. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical issue with the computer and three cylinders were not working. The contact inquired with the manufacturer and no information was provided. The failure occurred three times. The failure mileage was unknown.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Mazda Tribute. The contact heard an abnormal noise while driving the vehicle. The contact stated upon inspection that the rear end tire well had disconnected. The vehicle was take to an indpendent mechnic where the technician conifrmed that the rear end tire well was detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Mazda recall # 1904d. Mazda has a recall for units built from April 17, 200 through September 11, 2002. My unit was built in 2004 but has the exact same problems as the vehicles in this recall. No one at Mazda can ( or won't ) tell me the reason that units in later dates such as mine are not in this recall even tho it does what the recall was suppose to fix and will not fix mine with-out a charge. The unit die when coming up to a stop sign or slowing down. This has happened repeatedly to my daughter who drives this car to the point where she is afraid to drive it. She has been almost rear-ended repeated times. Here is what the recall says. Recall summary: on certain sport utility vehicles equipped with 3. 0l v6 duratec engines , during deceleration, the engine can stall. Hazard: should the engine stall, a vehicle crash could occur. Remedy: dealers will reprogram the power control module (pcm) with the appropriate calibration. The recall began on may 3, 2004. Owners should contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. My Mazda Tribute v 6, 3. 0 all of a sudden stopped on the highway. I had it towed to my son's house, than to the Mazda dealership. It was at the dealership when I was told what had occurred. My coils had blown out and damaged my (pcm)computer. They said it would cost $2689. I could not afford the dealership's cost so I had it towed again to a private mechanic where he replaced the coils. I went on ebay and found a reasonably priced pcm where it was programmed keys included. My research has led me into writing this letter. I found that Ford motors and their affiliates have known about this problem with the coils blowing out the pcm for quite some time and have never told the owners of their vehicles about this problem. If I had known I would have never purchased the vehicle.

2005 Mazda Tribute. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine issues and requests compensation for repairs. The consumer stated when started the vehicle, it sounded like a truck and the check engine light started flashing. A diagnosis revealed the coils and spark plugs needed to be replaced.

Today 12-15-14 I went to pick up my son at school it is cold outside so I left my car running with the heater on when I got out of the car the car locked on its own and I could not get back in. If someone had a baby in the car and got out and it locked you could not get in that is not safe. It took me over 1 hour to get in my car I had groceries in there. No vehicle should lock with the keys in the ignition and the car on and in park. Thank you.

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Mazda Tribute. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds the vehicle would suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed and repaired the vehicle. The diagnoise of the vehicle and repair was unknown. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil from the lower arm control and the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contanct recieved notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v174000 (structure) that states that the lower arm control can detach causing loss of steering control. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and informed the dealer of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle became inoperable. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Applying brakes and abs kicks in and makes the tires lock up in the back and slides the rear end of the vehicle around. Seems electrical problems are occurring also. Headlights have a short, reverse lights don't work,and window controls don't always work. Vehicle has done all this since I have owned it. It was bought used and I have had it checked for all recalls and they are all up to date, or so the Mazda dealer says they are. I have had brakes replaced along with rotors and tires and the vehicle does the same thing.

The contact owns a 2003 Mazda Tribute. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle for 15 minutes, she drove it into a drive way and after shifting into park the brake light illuminated. The contact stated that she shifted into drive and back to park to see if the vehicle would reset itself but the abs light illuminated for 3 seconds and shut off. The contact turned the vehicle off and exit the vehicle. The contact stated that about an hour and a half later, she was informed that the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. The fire department filed a report and stated that the fire was mechanical and confirmed that the vehicle had been on fire for a least an hour. The vehicle was destroyed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not inspected. The failure mileage was 147,000.

The electronic power steering unit in mt Tribute is shot! it started going out randomly and would come back on after turning the car off and turning it back on. Over the weekend it went out on us while driving 70mph down the highway! it was a very scary situation that could've went bad. This is a known defect through Mazda and should be recalled! it is the same unit that was in the Mazda 3 and 5; which was recalled. This needs to be done ASAP!.

2005 Mazda Tribute. Consumer writes in regards to several mechanical problems with vehicle. The consumer stated the computer caused the spark plugs to mis-fire. The dealer informed the consumer, the vehicle was unsafe to drive. However, on the last three occasions they sent her home without resolving the problem.

For the past 6 months my car will periodically loose power, I would be in the middle of a busy street, in stop and go traffic, or anywhere, and suddenly have no acceleration at all. It would then jerk very violently until I just shut it off. After 2 or 3 episodes, my car would be fine for several weeks, before happening again. Early on there were no dash lights that came on and the dealership could not identify any problem. After about 4 months there was finally an engine light and a code that indicated an issue with the electronic throttle body. But the dealership says they are still not sure what is wrong with my car, because they could not duplicate the problem. Now my car is out of warranty, and I am still having the same issue, however it is occurring more frequently, to the point it is not safe to drive my car anymore. When my husband looked up the part 2 weeks ago the price was $176. 00 ¿ yesterday he called to get a price and they are now $350. 00 or more at dealerships,(grapevine Ford) that have them in stock, or dealerships that haven't jacked up the price (hiley Mazda), they are out of stock and on back order.

I have a karr car alarm, dealer installed prior to purchase. Recently, while the car locked in the drive way, the alarm went off unexpectedly. Then while driving the door ajar alarm went off constantly. Went to karr and had a new alarm system put in. Still happens. Went to Mazda and they found the rear passenger door lock assembly was defective. Had extended warranty and they fixed it. 11 days later the alarm went off again in the drive way while sitting there locked. Called Mazda again and am scheduled to bring the car in to check it out again. Karr mechanic stated that he had the same problems with Ford escape and Mazda Tribute customers all due to the door lock assemblies in the fact that the electrical mechanism seems to be reverse logic than other cars. This is becoming both annoying and frustrating. In the mean time I cannot lock the car in the drive way or when I am at stores - no security or theft-control.

Received notice from Mazda regarding safety recall #6712a in Feb 2012 for our 2002 Mazda Tribute - recommended action was to park vehicle outdoors, away from structures to prevent unattended potential fire from spreading related to electrical short /abs module. It has now been 3 months and Mazda has not provided the necessary repairs to return this vehicle to a safe condition.

Lock issue - hatchback and back window only
this is an issue that I have always had, and it is a pain in the neck. The hatchback door or window will not open using either the remote or the door unlock button in the car. After having groceries in the back, pizza, material being moved, etc. One has to do the following to access that area of the vehicle:
1. ) climb over the seat - many times not possible to really get at items in the back. 2. ) wait about 5 mins or so, and then the remote will unlock the door/window. 3. ) discovered that putting the key back in and turning it to accessory and then removing the key, the door/window can be unlocked. Not sure what the story is or exactly what steps must be done for this issue to occur, but it occurs often. Usually the sequence is, shut the car engine off, remove the key, shut off the cars lights, then try to access the back with the remote. When that doesn't work, try opening the car door and unlocking all the doors again. This won't work either. Try locking the vehicle again using the remote and try opening up the doors and the back. I believe that the 'doors' will unlock at all times, but not the back or the back window. Really a pain. . . . . . And embarrassing to have people watch you try to get into the back of the car, when there should be no problem.

From a stop switching to gas pedal or accelerator the pedal sticks and hard to press and does it back to back for a few minutes. Also it can do it at random after driving for awhile and stop at a light it will stick when trying to go. Once it stops sticking I have to quickly hit the brakes to not cause over acceleration.

I started my car and the 'check engine' light flashed on-and-off. Thinking it would go away, I drove to route 3 in south shore, MA. Once on the highway, the light did not stop flashing, so I pulled over. Thirty seconds after pulling over in a rest area, white smoke appeared from under the hood. 10 seconds later, black smoke came from the hood which was accompanied with a burning smell. Luckily, someone from massdot was in the rest area and we determined that it was a car fire. We proceeded to step back and call 911 from a safe distance. The engine area of the car was on fire until the fire department was able to put it out.
