Failure Date: 09/01/2008
My car was parked for two days when a fire started in the engine compartment. The fire started on the abs module and burned the wire harness attached to the abs module. I was able to put the fire out before the fire did major damage was done, however, I had to cover the deductible and insurance had to cover the rest of the cost. This car had been recalled for the abs and I had taken it to the dealership when recalled. After service, I continued to receive recall notices, thought I was told there was nothing that needed to be serviced.

Electrical System problem of the 2005 Mazda Tribute

Failure Date: 10/01/2007
In 2007 vehicle check engine light started flashing and came on. Before I could reach a dealer or shop the car completely stopped working in a construction zone. Dealer said there was a short in the electrical system and fried the main computer. Computer was replaced and electrical connections checked. Dealer found several electrical connections that were loose. I believe this is a direct result of the other electrical issues that caused a recall on the Tribute / escape.

Failure Date: 05/01/2007
Since I have owned this car the 'door ajar' light is mostly on--all the time. It is a minor annoyance; however, I am reading tons of other Mazda Tribute owners with the same issue. No one I've had it to--including the dealer--could figure out what is wrong. It clearly is a defect. Sometimes I am concerned it will pose a safety issue as, for instance, it will be off (rare, but sometimes it turns off). Then I roll down a window, or sometimes do nothing, and then the light suddenly comes on. It dings and the interior lights come on in the car as though someone opened a door. I ask that you investigate this issue and hold Mazda responsible for fixing this issue. Thank you!.

Clock/radio does not work until car is running up to 30 minutes or more. Dealer replaced entire unit which worked approx. 2 months before the issue re-appeared. Recently clock/radio has not worked for more than 1 week. The issue has been ongoing for more than 1 year with the dealer denying any electrical issue. As of today, vehicle at dealer again who now says it is an electrical issue.
Electrical System problem of the 2006 Mazda Tribute

Failure Date: 11/01/2006
I purchased a Mazda Tribute 2006 model on 9/4/06 and I took it in on 11/1/06 for water in headlamp, water was getting down the in windows, and tire pressure light blinking. I was told at the end of the day that the car was not ready because they could not figure out the tire pressure light problem and they ordered a part. Well, the next day it was the same thing, needed another part and they have been on the phone with Mazda tech support. Well today is 11/7/06 and I still do not have my vehicle back. They are now saying that they have ordered another part and it will be three to four days because the part is on back order. I feel I have bought a defective vehicle and Mazda should give me another vehicle to replace it. This vehicle (from the sounds of southern states) has had all of the computer censors replaced minus the major one (according to southern states) and for a vehicle to be new as this one is with these kind of problems, I feel is defective.

Failure Date: 03/16/2004
Our 2002 Mazda Tribute is currently going through a period of stalling, where total power is lost in the vehicle and the vehicle shuts off. Six months into owning the car, my wife took it in for a chip upgrade and this was supposed to solve the problem. Well, a month ago, it happened again. My wife had the vehicle scanned and it came up with nothing. Again, this morning, the vehicle stalled. It is unacceptable that a two year old car should have these problems, and no one can solve it!
I am frustrated, and could use some guidance on where to go with my problem. My wife drives it daily for work, and I fear that it will kill out when she is doing 65 on the interstate. Help please.

Failure Date: 10/20/2003
The madza Tribute 2001 stalls without warning, at varying speeds. Both the brakes and the steering system are inoperable. The car starts again after this occurs. This has happened 5 times! luckily, my son who drives this car hasn't been injured. But what about the next time? what if he is driving on the expressway at 55 or 65 miles an hour? can Mazda assure me that he won't be seriously injured or killed? the service department has offered several explanations after verifying that this is a on going problem with this vehicle. We have been told that the air intake valve sticks when carbon builds up on it. Now we are told it is a flaw in the computer. Clearly there is a serious design flaw which the service departments have been unable to repair. This car is a disaster waiting to happen! how can I possibly allow my son to drive this vehicle?!!.

Mazda tirbute esv6 has lost all power under normal driving conditions; no power steering or brakes and all indicator lights came on. Which is very difficult to steer out of oncoming traffic to get out to safety. The mechanic from jim ellis Mazda at marietta, GA told that this case already happened twice (one from a different car). In addition, it was reported that the valve gets "carbed up. " this occurs when a driver is coasting between accelerating and braking. Also, the transmission and electrical systems are already going haywire on this vehicle with no wipers, airbag light constantly on or blinking, transmission slipping and grinding.

On August 29th, 2003 I was driving in my 2001 Mazda Tribute. As I slowed down to make a turn, the car suddenly had a total loss of power. I had no steering and no brakes and I was quickly headed into oncoming traffic with no control of the car. Luckily I was able to react in time and pull up the emergency brake. Once I regained my composure, I was able to put the car into neutral and then restart the car. The only time I have driven it since is to take into the dealership. They were very sympathetic to my situation and later advised me that a technical bulletin had been issued for this issue and they were able to fix it. They explained there was no recall issued for this situation. On September 5th, 2003 I called Mazda customer care and explained what had happened. They informed me that Mazda is aware of the situation and they do not feel it is a safety issue. They also indicated it only happens in less than 1% of all of their vehicles and they did not want to cause "panic" amongst their car owners. I feel I was lucky to escape without injury or without getting into a serious accident. I feel other Mazda owners should be aware of this situation. Thank you for your time. Lewis paskin.

engine stalls while driving, can't control steering or brakes. Although there have been no injuries so far, this could cause a very serious accident.

2002 Mazda Tribute 4x4
loss of brakes
loss of steering
had to stop by way of e-brake
luckily no one was hurt
notified from the dealer that there is a problem with the eprom on the main computer that needed to be reflashed. Also notified by dealer that they knew of this problem. I was never informed of this. This could have been a deadly accident that could be avoided by informing consumers to have repair done on vehicle. Do we have to wait for people to die before anything is done????????.

2001 Mazda Tribute, died while driving at 35 miles per hour. No breaks, no steering, no control. This is the 3rd time and clearly the most dangerous as it was life threatening. Mazda is unresponsive and not honoring my buy back request. They said the problem has been fixed, but they said they fixed it previously and it wasn't so I have no faith I am not willing to risk my life again. Why hasn't there been a recall? I have seen dozen of others with the same problem.
