Failure Date: 10/07/2016

Started hearing banging noises while driving. Finally realized it was coming from the passenger side rear wheel well, which was completely rusted. This caused the shock absorber to detach and bang on the car while driving. The car is in otherwise good condition, with no other rust problems. There was a recall for the same issue on the 2001-2004 models, but not 2005.

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Passenger side rear wheel well completely rusted out, exposing and causing failure in the associated shock. The rear bumper now rattles over even the tiniest bit of uneven pavement and the car will sway in the back rear over larger bumps hit with that back wheel. First noticed going over uneven pavement after being parked for about 4 hours. Nothing prompted it other than a piece of uneven road may have been the final straw. This is apparently becoming a common problem in the 2005 Mazda Tributes and was addressed in a recall for 2001-2004 Tributes. Same problem, same area (passenger side rear wheel well) this is not safe!.

Failure Date: 03/03/2016

A noise in the left rear developed and the rear shock broke off. Upon inspection it was determined that excessive corrosion on the entire frame from behind the front seat area back rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive. I contacted Mazda corp and was tld that yes there were known cases of excessive corrosion on that er as well as Ford escapes due to defective metal used in manufacturing. I was told it was not my fault as I could not have prevented it. That there was nothing they could do as the vehicle was out of warrantee. The Mazda dealer who inspected the vehicle stated it was ne of the worst cases they had seen and not to drive it. I was forced to trade it in at a great loss because I need a vehicle.

As research has shown the 2001 - 2004 Tributes have recalls on the subframe of the vehicle, my 2005 has the same problem on the subframe and is so rusted out that it is ready to break apart. I believe this is the same part as the earlier models and my VIN has been left out of the recall, I would really be great full if we can have this matter resolved before it becomes a tragic matter while driving the vehicle. Thank you very much for your time. I remain. My vehicle will be going into the dealer tomorrow morning for a different recall matter at bay shore Mazda in long island n. Y. Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Sticking throlle on vehicle occurs when temperature is cold. I could not move the car at all. Gas pedal is stuck. It has happened to me at a red light as well and almost caused someone to hit me from behind. However on 1/18 I could not get the throlle unstuck at all. Mazda says there is no recall and refuses to repair my car free of charge, they do not acknowledge the recall at all. Though there is a ton of information on line from the wall street journal. Cars. Com and blogs re. This issue affecting over 218,000 vehicles. See articles attached is what exactly happened to me.

My airbag warning light has been flashing on and off for a while now. I removed the items under the seat and the lights went off and worked for almost a month. All of a sudden the lights are now flashing again, even though there are no items below my seats. I was able to search online and see that there have been many issues with the seatbelt pretensioners and/or the connections below the seat that need to be wiggled or disconnected and then re-plugged in to make the light go out. It has happened in all situations including stationary, in motion, on the highway, or in the city.

The vehicle that I own has corrosion around the lift gate's rear window hinges and has completely fell off. This is very dangerous as I fear the window will completely fall off. I'm not sure if its ok for the rear lift-gate window hinge to be falling off like that.

The frame of my 2003 Mazda Tribute rusted and broke while I was driving. This vehicle should have lasted several more years and if this had happened when I was going faster, I could have been seriously injured.

I was driving and all of a sudden my car began to slow down and not go foward and hesitated to go backwards. I had to have it towed to shop. The shop machanic informed me that the transmission was built without a pressure release valve, and that is what cause it to malfunction. And I would like to know why you don't have transmission in dropdown box of affected parts.

My Mazda 2005, has totally rusted out on the passenger back wheel well. The suspension is affected as well. The repairs are going to be very costly and I found out that the 01-04 models have done the same and there was a recall for the same exact issue. Mazda needs to extend the recall to include the 05 model as well. I am also filing a report with Mazda.

Went to get my annual inspection and was told that my right rear shock tower is rusted out.

I own a 2005 Mazda Tribute with 80,000 miles, new tires, new brakes, new spark plugs and pistons (installed in April ) cost=1200. 00 took my car in for an inspection in may and my mechanic told me there was considerable rust on the right wheel well and may not support the struts he advised me not to drive it and I took it to a body shop and they said d1500. + not including labor and they could not guarantee they could gt rid of the rust, not involved in an accident-my car runs good but I afraid to drive it. 75 retired and this is my only mode of transportation and I cannot afford another car. I noticed on line Mazda has recalled a lot of cars for this same problem-do they nor undercoat cars anymore.

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

The car stalls alot and the oil and battery light flashes when coming to a stop then u drive again and it goes off. It will do it for a couple of days then stop then start up again. Has to be some type of wiring issue had the oil change so thats fine and the battery tested and thats all good.

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

On my way out to store I backed up out of my driveway as I switched gears and went into drive my gas pedal was hard to push down on. I tried again then pedal was sticking then dropped all the way down to floor. I lift my foot off the gas pedal car continued to go in drive, I immediately pushed on breaks they were then also hard to push so I placed car in neutral and put on emergency break to stop the vehicle.

I just wanted to add to the long list of Mazda Tribute 2005 owners with the right rear wheelhouse problem due to rust and corrosion causing the strut to disconnect from the frame. My vehicle currently has 116k miles. The left rear and front wheel house areas are in great shape. Its astonishing with the multitude of Mazda owners reporting this issue and the 100's of internet web sites documenting this issue that Mazda hasn't taken ownership of this problem and released a fix. I've read the Ford motor company did just so with the comparable 2005 escape line.

Failure Date: 01/03/2015

The rear passenger wheel well has excessive corrosion through the frame of my vehicle. The corrosion has split my frame in half and left wholes surrounding the split. My shock tower is exposed and corroded making it unsafe to drive. The rear driver side is splitting in the same exact place. This is a serious safety hazard and obvious defect. The front end of my vehicle was just recalled and repaired for the same issue. I don't understand why Mazda has not addressed this issue already. Excessive corrosion has also occurred on the Ford escape made from the same line. Mazda needs to be responsible and correct this before a serious injury or fatality occurs.

I cannot lock the driver side door.

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

Right rear wheelhouse has completely rusted out at 146,000 miles, and the strut is disconnected from the frame. Mazda has denied any responsibility for this issue and offered no assistance despite the fact that there are hundreds of complaints of this very issue on the NHTSA website, and despite the fact that the 2001-2004 Tributes were recalled and repaired for corrsion issues. The mechanic and collision repair center said they have never seen rust this bad in the same area of makes of vehicles. The collision repair center also stated that this is a $4,000-$6,000 repair that the owner should not be stuck with as it is a manufacuture defect. They manufacutured the 2005 Ford escape frame in the same plant and they share the same problem. This occured while I was traveling down the highway at 70mph and the shock broke free right behind my sons carseat, the shock was touching the inner plastic . Luckly I pulled over to find out what the noise was. Mazda seems to have no concern for their customers safety. Customer beware. . . . And if you have a child at least put them on the drivers side for some safety. Lets all hope Mazda will stand up for their defective product. . . . . . . .

Entire right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted away, including the shock mount.

car image   Equipment problem of the 2005 Mazda Tribute 22
Failure Date: 09/10/2014

The framework underneath and around the vehicle's rear passenger tire has rotted away, and the shock has penetrated the wheel well. The entire rear of the vehicle "rattles" loudly because of this. It appears that this deficiency was fixed, temporarily, before the sale of the vehicle was pursued.

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

Have owned this car for 2 years, come April 2015. 8 months of those 2 years it has been sitting in the drive way broke down. Was out of town when I felt the transmission slip and decrease in acceleration while I was on the freeway home. I had to get off on the nearest exit with my 1yr old daughter in the back, and there was a stop light from the off ramp to the road, it was red when I got off so of course I had to stop. Well the light turned green and my car would not accelerate it jerked like the gears were trying to shift but could not. I had to get off in reverse and wait 4 hours for a tow truck. We were 128 miles from home. I have not been able to fix it, still unfortunately still paying on it. I know there have been recalls made in April of 2004 for this model car. I just want to know if mine falls under that recall and I'm I eligible even though I am the second owner.

I have just purchased this car used for my mother in law the day before. I was exiting expressway ramp and I came to a light. When I took my foot off the accelerator the car surged. I started hitting the brakes but the car continued to accelerate. I pushed car in neutral and applied brakes to stop car. I was in the middle of traffic. I started car and it immediately accelerated to 3000 rpm while in park. I turned it back off and on again and it did the same thing. I called for a tow and had it towed to the dealer. I researched problem online and saw the recalls for the Tribute. I figured it hadn't been done yet. On Monday the service dept. Opened and they said when they started vehicle it revved up to 3000 rpm. They were able to get vehicle to stop accelerating. They looked up vehicle and saw that it already had the sudden acceleration recall work completed. Car was there for 3 days as they checked everything on vehicle as well as drove it to see if it would repeat the problem. They eventually took iac valve off, cleaned it and let it sit overnight in cleaner along with cleaning the throttle body. They could not get vehicle to repeat acceleration after work was completed. I believe recall issue is still not fixed.
