Side/window Air Bag problems of the 2000 Mercedes Benz 320

Two problems related to side/window air bag have been reported for the 2000 Mercedes Benz 320. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2007

1) no indication prior to event 2) all 3 passenger side airbags deployed simultaneously at 70 mph with no provocation. No exterior damage to vehicle. No disruption in the road surface. No personal injuries resulted. Car has been unusable while waiting for response from manufacturer. 3) vehicle was towed to a dealer and inspected insurer, dealer, regional office of manufacturer. No cause has been determined. No action has occurred for repair or replacement. Manufacturer has been unforthcoming in disclosure of information on progress of customer assistance care (cac) file.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2006

: the contact stated, when the ignition was turned to start the vehicle, the right front and side airbags deployed. The air bags also deployed in the rear seats, where children were located. When the vehicle was towed to the service dealer, it was determined that the battery under the rear passenger seat had exploded, causing the air bag deployment. One injury was reported.
