Attempted to start the car. The battery exploded. There was an exyremely loud noise and the car was jarred. The battery is located under the rear seat. This is where the infant seats are located because this is where my grand children are required to ride. Fortunately, they were not in the car at the time. Emergency road service replaced the battery.

I am currently driving a loaner car, as my Mercedes Benz c320, 2001 is in the repair shop of the dealer, merc. Benz of laguna niguel (949-347-3700). It is in for the third repair of the srs airbay/safety system. The seatbelt had previously failed, to and had to be replace. ** engine stalled on the freeway (5n, in California) and my 8 yr. Old son and I were very close to getting rear-ended on the freeway. The car would not go more than 40 mph and the engine light went on. ** dealer is refusing to contact to discuss my car! they told me to get an attorney and I they have my car! I have their loaner car. My car is very unsafe and they know it and they are refusing to discuss it with me any further and they are trying to force me to sign another contract to purchase a new car of theirs! please check into this because this car is very unsafe and has caused me to go back to the dealership approx. 19 times. The owner, the gm and management refuse to discuss anything with me and are not even corresponding via mail! my car has been in the repair shop since August 25, 2004 and remains there as I write this. Please look into this matter as I no longer feel safe in driving this car, if I should get it back from their repair shop. They do not obviouly want to take responsibility. ***they have falsified repair documents, in regards to repairing or replacing my battery, to which I had absolutely no idea that there was a battery problem. They did this without my authorization and falsly documented in the repair records, falsly stating that I, the customer, had to jump my battery. I made mr. Randy stenson, the head of service, aware that I did not appreciate this false documentation. ** one thing: they are dishonest, in that they falsly claim that they are working with me and report this to the mb customer service in new jersey. They are not working with me and state otherwise.
The battery, located in a metal compartment under the rear seat, exploded. The consumer stated that mercedes-benz was aware of the problem.
While in park, the battery exploded which also caused the air bag to deploy. While parked, the right side front passenger airbag deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they found that the hoppecke battery under the rear seat was cracked and broken and setting in a pool of acid which accounted for the acid smell at the time of the air bag deployment. The incident caused damage to the interior.
Battery "exploded" trying to start car. Batttery acid was spreyed all about, and acrid fumes filled our garage. Was compensated $2500 by mercedes and the dealer offfered a new vehical "at cost" which we accepted. Were told this was not the first time a battery had exploded in a ml320. These batteries and/or the ignition system need to be recalled. Fortunately no one was hurt in this incident, but it did occur in a garage in close proximity to gas lines and pilot lights for the water heater and home heating unit, with my wife and children in the car. Thank goodness they didn't all blow up with the battery!.
