36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

There is a known manufacture defect in the m272 engine. The engine balance shaft sprocket was made of soft metal which causes the drive sprocket to wear prematurely. This wear causes the timing of the engine to become off, which then causes the car to automatically go into limp mode. In limp mode, the car suddenly cannot be driven over 20 mph and the engine has to be shut off and restarted to exit limp mode. I approached a Mercedes Benz dealership and the estimate for the repair was over $7,000! this engine defect causes the car to go into limp mode and is very dangerous.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

I purchased Mercedes Benz C230, 2007 from the local Honda dealership, and in a week the "check engine" light came on. I brought back the car to its service division and it said that code was a problem. They did something and the light went off for a week. Then, I returned to their service center again and they said that fuel was not being supplied evenly in the engine. Suggested to go to the mercedes service center. I took the car to the mercedes dealership in marion, IL. They turned of the light by updating computer program. However, in a week the light came on again. I purchased it on March 31, 2014. I went to the local Honda dealership to refund my money. However, they refused. They said that this car had similar problem a year ago. The Honda dealership did not check well the car's background before selling. They said that the background of the car was clean. I cannot drive this car to long distance with this faulty. It is simply unsafe. I requested to refund my payment of 13,500, and they refused. Please help sincerely.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 12/31/2013

Attempting to speed up from stop to 45 mph and rpms rose above 5000 to 6000 and car would not speed up past 35 mph. I tried flooring the accelerator but nothing happened. No response at all past 35 mph. I pulled over and turned off the car for 5 minutes. Then I started the car again and the acceleration performed as it should.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

I was driving home and noticed that when I would accelerate after coming to a stop the car was extremely slugglish. I would have to almost floor the gas pedal in order for the car to begin moving. I pulled over and then put the car in neuttral. The jerked violently and shifted very hard as I then tried to put it in reverse and the into park. I tried to put the car back into drive and it would not accelerate at all. I had to turn the car off and then back on again in order to get it moving. The gears continued to shift violently. However, when I finally got moving again, the car would not go over 35 mph. The car was inspected and an error code for the internal speed sensor came up, which is part of the valve body for the transmission. My car only has 59,000 miles on it. Mercedes is very aware of this problem on 2006-2007 C230 models! in fact, they are having a dispute with the manufacturer of the valve body because it is poor quality and defective. I have seen numerous other complaints related to this issue. My local mercedes dealership quoted me $2,400 to repair this defective part. I was lucky in that I was not driving at 60 mph on the highway when this malfunction occurred. This is an extremely dangerous issue and a recall should be issued for this part.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

1. 8l 4 cylinder supercharged. Teeth on cam gears broken off and worn down to the point of the vehicle jumping timing. And damaging valves and other major components. Cost of parts quotes from the local mercedes dealer, 900. 00 per gear, timing chain 330. 00 not including any labor, if any other components were damaged more parts are required. Reason for this happening is due to mercedes using a thin bicycle like chain for timing. Stretches beyond safe limits in 50k of miles. Loose chain eventually breaks and/or damages cam gear teeth and other components. Many incidents of this can be found at mbworld. Org and benzworld. Org.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

Sudden loss of propulsion, rpms elevated dramatically. From a stopped position the car did not regain normal propulsion and barely moved. After turning the engine off and then back on, propulsion returned to normal.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

All 4 cam shaft sensors failed at the same time.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

I purchased my car brand new, it was never previously owned and directly from a Mercedes Benz dealer. I started having problems with speed and gear shifting back in may 2012. When driving on the freeway normal speed (55mph) the car would begin to slow down no matter how much I pressed the accelerator the car would slow to a complete stop. I would have to attempt to pull over off the freeway, turn the car completely off, let it sit and then start it again and the car would run normal. When I get off the freeway or now even when I am driving on a back road going 35 mph the car would shake as I came to a stop sign or traffic light (as if I was driving a stick shift and didn't put the car in neutral or press the clutch) and then it would shut down completely. Now I am having a third issue in addition to these issues where the car will shift gears on it's own and I'm driving in automatic mode not as a 5 speed. This is completely ridiculous for me to have transmission issue on a Mercedes Benz that I purchased new. I took it to a dealer who claims that I have to replace the entire transmission due to one small piece within the transmission system. I have checked online and have seen that hundreds of other benz owners are having the same problems with no resolution from the manufacturer. I am requesting an investigation and a recall. This is an extreme safety hazard that a car will completely shut down while on a freeway and there have been times when I have almost collided with other cars due to the immediate decline in speed. I have to always find a way to pull over to shut off the car. I purchased this car because of the quality that it should provide. Please follow up with me regarding this issue I am extremely concerned that requests are being ignored by the manufacturer and no one is looking into this matter.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I purchased my 2007 C230 new from the dealership. My car has been experiencing transmission issues of the car not down shifting into the next gear and the car's speed declining while driving. This has happened driving on surface streets at 20mph and on the freeway going 65mph. I've even attempted to take it out of automatic drive and into manual shift and the car will not respond. The only way to "reboot" it is if I pull over and turn the vehicle off and restart it after a few minutes. This is a major mechanical/manufacturer defect as my vehicle has been well maintained and only has 40,000 miles!!! to have to pull over on a major interstate is not safe by any means. When taking it to the dealership they inspected it and diagnosed the problem as a transmission valve failure that will need replacement at a cost of $1300. For a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles, well maintained with regular service this is unacceptable. I purchased a mercedes based on their reliability and when contacting corporate for review in the matter they said they would be able to offer me a 10% discount. I do not have a problem paying for regular up keep and if other items need to be updated/replaced to keep the car in good condition but to have transmission issues at 40,000 miles is absolutely unacceptable and is a manufacter defect that needs review and recall.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 03/20/2012

Dtc 1208 code appears. Due to positioning of timing chain relative to crankshaft. Engine m272 caused by worn sprocket on the balance shaft of engine. Mercedes has repair kit available but has modified this problem on newer vehicles. This is a common occurrence on this engine, and should be part of a national recall compaign. The internet is full of complaints over this and I believe there is currently a class action law suit about this.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

My 2006 mercedes C230 has a defective balance shaft. I did some research and multiple people are having the same problem. There is a class action suit in the works. I believe this is a defective part that needs to be recalled.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

Bought this car with 38000 on it. The get up and go seemed sluggish but mechanic said it checked out. Had some major issues. Car would barely go, went directly to mercedes dealership. Dealer said fuel pump was out $793. Also said I needed to service the transmission, $350. They also said I had a much greater problem. A balance shaft inside the motor and quoted me $4600. The car now has 55,000 miles on it. The warranty was for 4 years or 50,000. The car is one year or 5,000 miles out of warranty. It is hard understand why this type of catastrophic failure is occurring so soon after the warranty is up. I checked this out online and it seems like I'm far from the first owner to have this problem. I saw a lawsuit, too bad I don't know how to participate. I'm really disappointed that mercedes isn't doing the right thing on its own. Please help!.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 03/17/2011

Having problem with the gear shifting, believe this is caused by the shaft balancer, etc. The car grabs and jerks from time to time making me unsure of the safety of my car. My car only has 84,000 miles on it. The car is like new, but as I read the class act against mercedes I noticed that my car has several of the same issues as others listed in the complaint. The interior and exterior of my car is in excellent condition, and I can't believe that the mercedes company would allow an error like this to continue. I would like for this to be corrected by mercedes or to be placed on the class act suit as well.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 02/25/2011

2006 mercedes C230 has a defective blance shaft gear inside engine which drives the timing chain. Mercedes benz knows that the materials used were insufficiently hardened, causing premature wear and possible sudden loss of power resulting in no power steering or power brakes without warning , thereby presenting a danger to vehicle occupants. Mercedes has modified the gear on late 2006 models but never took responsibility to the defective parts already sold in the early 2006 production. This issue has been noted through out a large number of vehicles in the mercedes line. Silent recall has been noted to the technicians but nothing is being done to repair the defect. Maybe save some lives in the process. Also note they are charging owners approx $5000 and dealers state it is happening often betwwen 30,000-100,000 miles. No warning or symtoms until it "just happens".

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

This car is a money pit! I bought 2004 C230 kompressor used in 2007. To date I have spent well over $8500 in repairs and the car is sitting in my driveway with its latest affliction. . A completely blown engine. It is a useless piece of junk and I am out the $25,000 I originally paid for it, plus the additional $8500 I have put into it. This is how Mercedes Benz takes care of business? something has drastically changed. My dad has had 2 mercedes over the last 30 years. . . They ran perfectly until he sold them. He just bought a brand new s-series (2012) and it has already been in the shop numerous times. The cars are made cheap and everything in the interior is plastic, not wood as it should be. Mercedes, you should be ashamed of how far you have let your standards fall, it is a disgrace.

Tl. The contact owns a 2005 Mercedes Benz C230. The contact while driving 20 mph the vehicle started shaking and loses power. The happens while the vehicle is accelerating. 53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 10/12/2005

I am the owner of a c-230 4 door sedan VIN# wdbrf40j93f386357. I have an issue that I was looking into addressing when another major issue just arrose that I need help from the manufacturer who I have contacted but not received a response. 1) last week I decided to quote insurance and make a change to allstate. Once they put in the VIN# major issues came. The price was way different then what I was paying with Mercury. To make this short, after talking to my broker at Mercury, it turns out my 4 door has the VIN# of a 2 door coupe. I called beverly hills ltd where I purchased the car new. They did nothing. I have the original temp registration from the day I purchased the car new, and the dealer typed coupe not four door and on the lease agreement. I did not notice this. Here are my issues. The coupe is more expensive on insurance - I have been overpaying since 2/2003. 2nd, am I paying a fair lease rate if the VIN# is for another body style. This car has been nothing but nightmare to deal with since the day I purchased it. It has been serviced 8 times, transmission work, 2 computers, camshaft, new radio, idle issues, brake system failed, and so on. It's a complete lemon. It is going in next week again. I have only 21,000 on the car, and drive my 2nd car more a 79 300sd mercedes as it is more reliable then this new car. I need somewhere, someone to go to, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, darren weingarten - phone or email.
