I was told by the Mercedes Benz service center I take my car to that the timing chain and cam adjusters failed. I have a Mercedes Benz 2013 C250, with only 58,000 miles on it. I have my car serviced on time. I was driving my car on the highway, thank god I stopped at a local drugstore and when I tried to turn my car back on, only the lights will come on. It would not start up, and I had to have my car towed to the mb hunt valley service center where I get my car serviced. The service rep told me I had to have the timing chain, camadjusters, and lower guide rails replaced costing $6000. There is a extended warranty on the camadjusters which took the price down to 3600 which is still pricey. Which makes me wonder shouldn't the timing chaing also be under extended waranty. This type of event should only happen at least after the car reaches 100,000 miles. I have called Mercedes Benz customer service and awaiting for someone to call me back to see if they can assist. Awaiting a response as of 8/2/2021. I called after getting diagnoses which was 7/30/21. I have read numerous other reports of this same exact issue happening to other people. This is a extreme risk and safety matter that needs to be addressed by Mercedes Benz as a recall. Being newer model cars, the timing chain and camshaft adjusters should not fail, and most definitely not fail at 58,000 miles. Please look into this before someone gets hurt.

2012 mercedes C250 caught fire with no warning. Drove about 5 miles to the store and parked the car. A passerby said your car is on fire. Within minutes the entire front of the car was ablaze. The vehicle was towed to the city impound lot and has not been inspected by anyone.

I have several saftey recalls and performance recalls. Right now my car is not operable due to these recalls. There is no dealer on my island. This vehicle was purchased brand new from hawaii and shipped to guam. The dealer is requesting us to ship back the vehicle to fix these recalls. Which will cost me about 10,000. 00 for shipping. How do I go about this.

I purchased this 2012 C250 mercedes from carmax of waldorf on 04/26/2017, with 20,046 miles on it. I informed carmax the engine light was on and the car was rattling at start. I also reported the oil dipstick was broken. When the car was returned, the dipstick was replaced, coolant light off and engine light was off; however, the rattling at start up continued. I reported the problem to carmax several months later and they pretty much denied fault and went as far to say the car is just cold and does that at startup. For further protection I signed with carshield as my wife drives the car. The car's rattling continued at startup and eventually became difficult to start. I took it to mercedes of arlington, virginia and they stated the timing gear and chain needed replacing. Carshield reported back to me that it was a preexisting problem and wouldn't fix it. Meanwhile, we were stuck with a car we were paying on with no one taking the blame. Following research, I found that this is a recurring problem with the 2012 C250 model but there is no recall. I eventually paid approximately $5000 for the engine to be repaired as the engine failed. The engine is currently rattling again; with the engine light coming on constantly. This seems to be a common problem, however, with to consequences and accountability.

Cabin fills up with fuel smell, visible leak under fuel tank and by the front left tire. Leak and smell occurs both in motion and stationary/idle.

The timing mechanism commonly fails in 2012-2013-2014 cars and the engine may stutter or totally fail. The local dealer wants $7820 to repair the condition in a car which had less than 58000 miles. The warranty is over at 50000 miles. The failure is common and there are many complaints on the internet and. Many of the independent repair shops know about the problem. I can fax more details.

Whenever I accelerate engine light comes up and it turns into limp mode. This is a serious safety issue, alot of other people with the same vehicle as me are having same issues. This has happened more than 3 times, this is a error in high pressure fuel pump.

In June of 2018 we had to have cam shaft work done on our car which was slightly over the manufacture warranty. This took two trips to the shop and about $10,000 in repairs because the one side failed then within a few weeks the other side failed. I have read on the web many people have had the same issue and it begins right after the warranty goes out. Now there is an issue with the timing chain which I read should have been replaced when the cam shaft work was done. All these issues with the same model and there has been no recall. Mercedes told us it is a problem with the C250 and it will probably have to be done again after another 50,000 miles. I don't understand if they are aware of this issue why they have not corrected it. It costs about $5000 each time!.

Hello, this is a flaw in the mercedes m271 engine. After a certain amount of milage the camshaft and timing chain have been malfunctioning in most mercedes C250 cars. The dealer is asking $4400 for the repair, and mercedes did a recall on it years ago the camshaft adjuster solenoid is very faulty as it happens to most C250 vehicle owners. Ever since it happened to my own car every time I start it sounds like its about to blow up. The check engine stays on every day, sometimes it'll go in limp mode and I would carefully take the car off the highway.

When starting car, there is an audible 3 second engine rattle before the engine fully engages. Once the engine is running, the vehicle appears to perform normally. The mechanics have diagnosed it as failing camshaft adjusters. The repair also entails replacing the timing chains. Repairs to cost just over $5,000. Commentary from the mechanic indicates that this is a very common failure with this engine which typically occurs just beyond the warranty expiration. Online searches have confirmed his assertion. My vehicle has 80,000 miles and has never missed a service. I have every receipt of every service. A critical engine component such as this with such a costly repair procedure should not be this common. It is the result of a poor design and at least a portion of the repair costs should fall on the manufacturer.

As I was driving to come to a stop at a light, the engine light came on and the engine stopped in the middle of road. Luckly I wasn't on major highway or else it would have been a major accident. After reading farther reports this incident has happened numerous of time for the same issue and as what happened to me. Mercedes did not do any recalls or put out any safety notices to customers. This is major safety violation and I feel that they did not think about the safety of the customers. I contacted the mercedes headquarters and notified them of this issue and they had no answer for this problem. I felt my life was in jeopardy because of the problem with the manufacturing of the mercedes engines as well as the other customers that have brought up this complaint. They would not fix the problem instead offered a lousy incentive of $1000 toward new vehicle or $500 toward a certified preowned vehicle. Then they also charged me $800 to diagnose the problem. Then to tell me after that that it might not fix the problem and recommend a new engine. Why should I pay for a engine that goes out at only having 110000 miles on it. A top class car dealer and their engines go out at 110000 miles. Totally unacceptable.

Cam shaft adjusters went out and had to be repaired for normal use and drivers side door handle broke on the inside and needs to be replaced due to regular use.

Was told it was the timing chain and the 2 cam shafts. Was quoted $5032. So had to other choice than to have them repaired. Only received the managers discount of $150 (wow). I read that many other owners have the same problem and they will not recall . They have recalled older models like 2006 for this same type of issue. But of course seems that Mercedes Benz has no prestige. Also note this car only has 41,000 miles in mint shape take good care of it. Very , very disappointed with Mercedes Benz, don't get stuck buying a vehicle that is not dependable. This model has too many issues.

I was on I-95 and the car just started shaking and would not accelerate,very dangerous. The car also has a dangerous lag when trying to accelerate. I was trying to accelerate making a u turn to on coming traffic and the car wouldn't accelerate nearly causing a catastrophic life threatening accident. On 8/26/14 I was stopped at a light. When I went to take-off, the car would not accelerate. It finally did but very slowly. This occurred two more time at the next two stop lights. I was then in a center turn lane to turn across three lanes of traffic & when I tried to accelerate, the car died and the electronic display gave a yellow error message that the car was inoperable due to an issue with the braking system. I immediately put the car in park, turned it off & then started it back up. Fortunately it re-started, the error message was gone & I was able to drive into my office parking lot. My mercedes service dept. Said no codes registered on the computer, probably because I turned the car off so quickly it didn't have time to. Today, 8/17/14, I am having the same issue. My car is back at the mercedes service department. This is, in my opinion, a dangerous & life threatening problem.

Constant issues with vehicle acceleration. For example when try to accelerate from a stop the car hesitates for several seconds even with significant pressure on gas pedal then suddenly accelerates in a very jerky fashion. Ths is very dangerous when trying to pull out into traffic or make a left hand turn crossing multiple traffic lanes. Have also had similiar problems when car is traveling on highway and need to accelerate quickly, the car hesitates for several seconds and then jerks into gear and speeds up. I dont drive my car that much because I work from home and take cabs on weekends when going out but had a friend drive the car with me to see what they thought and they said they definitely noticed the issue. I am taking my car to the dealership to see if they will make repairs but I have a feeling like others who have submitted a complaint I will be told nothing is wrong. I just happened across this website and thought I would see if the problem was just my car but 11 of 13 complaints are the exact same issue as mine. Why hasnt the ntsb issued a recall? does someone or a bunch or people have to die first??.

Long pause when trying to accelerate from a stop. Not normal turbo lag, it's too long.

While driving on I-5 north coming from la jolla, my vehicle stopped accelerating, and suddenly stops in the middle of a busy freeway. I turned off the engine, then restarted after five second. After restarting my vehicle it started running again. This has happened three times already, and have brought my vehicle to the service center (on each occasion). Service report indicate transmission error. At times, the "slippery road" sign on my dashboard would blink even though the weather is hot or has not rain for ages.
