Seven problems related to front driver side air bag inflator have been reported for the 2011 Mercedes Benz C300. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Takata recall. I purchased this car for my teenage son on 3/13/18. I spent considerable time shopping for a vehicle in our price range that did not have the open takata recall. At that time, the NHTSA website, mercedes customer service and carfax all showed that this car was good - no open recalls. Now I come to find out that both passenger and driver bags/inflators are on recall, effective 6/1/16 and 2/9/16, respectively. I am extremely upset and concerned, as I do not want my son driving an unsafe vehicle. How is it possible that the recalls were "not there" in March? please help. Thanks.

Takata inflators. Received a recall notice on in April 2016. Checked with mercedes dealership a few days ago, and after almost two years they still do not have the replacement parts. They said I will receive a letter from mercedes once they have the parts.
Takata inflator : the manufacturer has never remedied the takata inflator recall defect since Feb 2016 when the recall was announced.
Takata inflators the first recall was February 2016 for the driver side airbag a reasonable amount of time is past the parts were promised in September 2018 and no delivery. Now a new recall of January 2019 for the passenger side airbag inflator has been issued I'm told by mercedes-benz USA that the parts will be available September 2019 . This is an unreasonable amount of time given the three years of the previous recall not being remedied. Also I'm told by the dealership that the motor mounts are collapsed I can't help but think that this is a defect also subject to recall.
Takata recall incomplete. Nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 16v081 recall date: February 11, 2016 manufacturer recall number: 2016020003 summary: certain mercedes-benz vehicles and one fca model are equipped with driver-side front airbags provided by the supplier tk holdings inc. ("takata"). On January 25, 2016 takata filed a defect information report with NHTSA announcing a potential defect in some of the subject inflators. Based upon takata's information to date, takata is aware of four test ruptures in ballistic tests of non-desiccated psdi-5 inflators. Takata is not aware of any field incidents in which a psdi-5 inflator has ruptured, either desiccated or non-desiccated. Takata is taking this action in an abundance of caution, to address all of the subject non-desiccated psdi-5 air bag inflators, due to the similarities of design and manufacturing characteristics for this type of inflator used in the u. S. Market. Dag is not aware of any field incidents with the subject takata psdi-5 inflators. However, based on the information above and in an abundance of caution, dag will conduct a voluntary recall of the vehicles equipped with subject takata psdi-5 inflators in the united states as identified by takata in the defect information report. Safety risk: according to takata, in the event of an inflatorrupture, metal fragments could pass through the air bag cushion material, which may resultin injury or death to vehicle occupants. Remedy: once parts are available customers will be sent a letter asking them to go to an authorized Mercedes Benz dealer who will replace the driver side front airbag of the potentially affected vehicles. Recall campaign 2016020003 owners may contact mercedes-benz at 1-877-496-3691. Recall status: recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available.
Takata inflators: 2 recalls and no action taken by Mercedes Benz. Takata has known about this problem since 2008. They need to find a way to make the parts available now! 9 years is long enough to manufacture the defective part replacement.
