I have a 2015 mercedes-benz C300 4matic got a letter from the company car had few recalls to address. Dropped the at mercedes-benz hampton va dealership on 12/06/2023 at 8:30 am est. After few hours got a call from the dealership that rear subframe of the has bad corrosion and because of the rust it got holes in it which is a bad safety risk. Risk is so great that it cant pass virginia state inspection. I did a good online research and found it is a common issue in mercedes-benz vehicles and the company issued safety recall on some years and models but not on all the affected vehicles. Like my car has the exact same safety issue rear subframe got rust from inside so it was hard to notice till it became unsafe to drive the car. The dealer is asking almost $5000. 00 to replace it. The mercedes-benz customer support center is unable to explain why some cars are covered with extended warranty offered by the factory and some doesn't for exact same issue. There are bunch of more people with same complaint but they don't know where to go.

The subframe has rusted/fallen off. This is incredibly risky as the car cannot be driven safely and it happened without warning. My mechanic said it is not due to any driving incidents but through rust occurring on mercedes' subframes, which are flimsy. It has been inspected professionally by a mechanic. There are no warning lamps. This could kill someone on the highway as while braking the car veered left and right. I had small children in the car we all neck pain from the car veering while stopping on the highway. I have taken good care of my vehicle and have all maintenance current. This is a fault with the material on the subframe. For all the subframes are on backorder and are incredibly expensive to fix. I have a video of the damage from the mechanic if needed.

The driver's side door handle broke impossible to open door from inside if there was an accident. I have been told that this is a common problem with my car, and that it cost 1600. 00 to replace repair at the dealer. This is such a common problem that there are after market kits to repair the broken handle for 20. 00, but including labor the repair is $500. 00.

The vehicles panoramic sunroof does not close fully. There is a recall for certain mercedes-benz 2015 - 2020 C300 vehicles, my car is a 2017 C300, but for some reason my vehicle is not part of the recall. The recall number is 21v197000.

While driving on highway a load noise was heard pulled off the road to see what it was and the part of the sunroof that meets the windshield had raised up so we tried to push it down and continue towards home the car had to be driven at around 40 miles per hour to keep it from elevating and in fear that it might come off and hit someone's car or cause an accident.
So I was using my car daily for go to work and I was on the highway and they happened a accident in front of me so I have to slow down due to the accident I was going 70 miles per hour and when made a hard break my car turn sideways due to the rear subframe was broke and I dint even notice that the part was rotten they I start looking online and I noticed that the majority of those car come with that factory issue.
Panoramic sunroof is closing right way. While when I drove air comes in .

My gas door has fell off 3 times exposing my gas cap. I got it replaced twice. It fell off on the highway and the other times I was just doing gas and it fell off into my hand. No excessive force. I didn’t want to pay again to repair it so I just taped it.
Rear control arm broke off of the rusted rear sub frame assembly which was confirmed and inspected by my mechanic.

The contact owns a 2012 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that the vehicle was making a loud bang sound towards the rear of the vehicle while driving over bumps in the roadway. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the rear subframe and the rear brake line were severely rusted. The subframe was replaced under an extended warranty coverage; however, the brake line was not covered under the extended warranty. The brake line was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Recently we had he brakes replaced and new tires put on to prepare for a trip out to minnesota in a couple of weeks. My son felt like the car wasn’t driving correctly and took it to the shop and upon being put on the lift the service department called and said the rear subframe rusted out and was broken and the gas tank was scratched do to the subframe rubbing against it. When he called mercedes they told him there was an extended warranty put on these cars which I never received a letter concerning this issue. Car is waiting to be towed to mercedes, they would not give us back the keys, it was too dangerous to drive. Son unknowing drove this car on the highway putting himself and others in danger for who knows how long. If he did not take it in for a check before driving himself and his father to minnesota they could have been killed. Perhaps a fire due to the gas tank damage. *confirmed by independent repair shop but will be seen when the car is towed to mercedes. *there was no warning to the dangerous situation my family was placed in. The cars should have been recalled. We were told by mercedes they were fixing the problem as it arises, luckily no one was injured or killed when this problem arose!.
The car was all over the road when braking and making banging sound. Had towed to 3 repair shops and all said subframe was rotted out beyond repair. Mercedes benz in golden bridge will replace subframe, but my cost is towing, labor and renting a car until it’s fixed which can take up to 1 month.
While I was driving to work in a heavy rain my abs malfunction light came on in my car. I decided to take it to the mercedes-benz dealership in fresno. They said it was the abs module that needed to be replaced. After being in the shop for almost 3 weeks they said it was fixed. When I went to pick it up, the moment I turned it on the abs malfunction light came on again. I was told that it was okay to drive and they would have somebody come check it out at my work the next day. My car went back into the shop for another week and they could not figure out what was wrong with it. They did take pictures and the second time I took it in they noticed a bunch of water underneath the floorboard. By this time, I had lost confidence in them fixing my car the manager basically kicked me off the lot and told me never to go back again. So I continued to drive my car since I was told it was okay first time they fixed it. Short while later, I rear-ended another car. The abs system did not warn me that I was too close. When I took my car in to get the body work fixed I was also given a name of somebody who would be able to fix the electrical problems and insurance would pay for it. He was able to fix the abs system but could not find where the short was that controlled the passenger seat and the driver side back seat window and for the needle that tells me if my car is overheating. Nobody could figure out where the water had been coming from. It wasn't until recently when we just had a heavy storm that I noticed water leaking from inside the car through a seam. The running boards on the top of my car were not installed correctly so water seeps in there during rains and then it travels down underneath my floorboards and sits which was the cause of the shorts in my electrical system. My concern is that I don't know how bad other components of the car might be that one of the wires might at any of the wires might short while I'm driving now but unable to download receipts which I have.

Like apparently the majority of this model year C300, the rear subframe is completely disintegrated. This is a known issue but mercedes has not communicated it nor fixed it. I was told, and as the photos clearly indicate, this very likely could have resulted in a catastrophic or fatal accident as the entire rear is corroded. I have photo and video support as well as the inspection from a mechanic.
My vehicle has been making very odd noises, the steering wheel keeps looking off center and the car is kicking/fishtailing at times without warning. Our mechanic has looked at the car several times and finally discovered that the sub frame is completely rusted out and broken. We were told not to drive the vehicle anymore as it is extremely dangerous. After researching about this issue, we found that a class action lawsuit was filed in February 2023 for corrosion/rusting out of frames in 2010-2022 Mercedes Benz models. According to the information, mercedes is refusing to cover the cost of the repairs and is not returning calls from customers effected by this issue. This information has been reported and added to the class action lawsuit. It was recommended that we report it here as well.
Repeated panoramic sunroof failure: sun roof rails are have been reported by the dealer to fail / crack and allow panoramic sun roof to dislodge from tracks securing this structure to the vehicle. Note this is not related to/addressed by the previous recall loud cracking noises heard and the sunroof stuck in an open position and appeared at risk of departing the vehicle on initial occurrence 2019/2020 dealer attempts to repair resulted in replacement of the rails which are reportedly "made of plastic and do not hold up well in southwestern us temperatures/climate" repairs/rigging the system appears to "load the rails" and dealer reported life limits can be as low as 10 cycles / 30 months this issue has occurred three times in the past 4 years 92k miles improper closure/ cracked tracks could result in incomplete cabin security during a roll over and/or potential for the panoramic sunroof to depart the vehicle to become a threat to other traffic.
2011 C300 4matic sport I'm very concerned about the front subframe after going over the invoice and everything that was replaced on the rear subframe due to a recall mercedes issued. But wait doesn't the whole subframe have severe rust corrosion all throughout yes it does per mechanic/technician. I'm having steering issues while driving the vehicle when applying the breaks the vehicle pulls very hard to the left the whole car swerves to the left very dangerously. After getting it checked out the mechanic/ technician pointed out that the control arm snapped from the front subframe due to severe corrosion. I'm not understanding how the recall was only for the rear subframe only. The whole entire subframe is severely rusted. Front subframe which may experience premature wear of the front axel carrier and a fracture risk, potentially resulting in sudden loss of steering control. After internal endurance testing determined the front axle carrier supplied for certain mercedes SUV’s and cars may weaken prematurely. An investigation revealed the root cause of the problem was due to a manufacturing defect in which the parts did not receive proper corrosion protection. My front subframe did not receive the proper corrosion protection. It's available for inspection. It's currently still at the dealership due to being unsafe to drive. I'm having steering issues while driving the vehicle when applying the breaks the vehicle pulls very hard to the left the whole car swerves to the left very dangerously. The problem has been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. Only dealer and independent service center did the inspection. No warning indicators no other symptoms, this issue took place around February - March of 2023. When I received the letter about the subframe recall I was excited thinking the issue would be fixed. But no it's unsafe.
When breaking at high speeds, the car feels like I will lose control of it. Has happened a few times and I thought I was going to hit the neighboring car. Took it to a repair shop and found out that the rear driver side subframe is completely rotted out and the rear control arm is hanging. The car only has about 97,500 miles on it, has not been driven in high salt areas, and doesn’t have any other signs of rust. Two auto body shops have told me this shouldn’t happen on a car with that low mileage, and these cars, mercedes C300s, are known to have this defect.
Sub frame on mercedes has rust issue, rusting from the inside out and is very dangerous. I only found out because I got new tires. Only 70k on the vehicle.
My 2011 C300 has a rotted rear subframe making the car not able to be driven. It has major ,life threatening, costly damage and this issue already has a recall all over the world but not in the united states.
Subframe rots prematurely. Known issue to Mercedes Benz and has been recalled and covered in both germany and canada.
This 2013 mercedes C300 with 88,xxx miles has significant subframe rust. This is unacceptable and is a safety hazard because the rust and corrosion will continue to spread and cause additional safety issues. This will cost over $4,000 to repair, but it is a manufacturer defect. There are a ton of similar complaints online, so this is clearly a systemic issue with this model that needs to be investigated.
The subframe assembly on my car is defective, as I learned today from my mechanic. This issue is known for my model of car and widely reported online. The mechanic says they have seen this issue before. I heard a strange noise while driving so I took the car to the shop after 60 days of enduring the sound. The shop immediately deemed the car unfit for driving and unsafe. In their words, if I had hit one bad pothole, the wheels could have come off the back of my car, and my gas tank could have been punctured, leading to a potentially catastrophic accident. I am lucky to have gotten this defective part identified before being injured, and others need to be protected from this outcome before a serious injury occurs. As of now this has only been inspected by the shop doing the fix. People online have indicated that mercedes will not fix the problem free of charge - and in fact they charge a premium to other places to replace this faulty subframe. There were zero warning indicators of this dangerous issue - the car drove completely normally aside from an infrequent knocking sound that would occur every 5-10 minutes under normal city driving conditions.
Cradle and subframe are completely rusted out. This a widely common issue with these cars and am reading it across several forums. Other C300 owners say they have had the exact same issue and request for the mb dealership to fix it. Instead they are given a quote of nearly $10,000 to fix it. Mb is responsible for this.
Rear subframe rotted. Common issue, needs a recall. Control arm broke off on both sides of the rear subframe. Rear passenger lower control arm close to gas tank, can cause a fire if punctures through tank as well. Lots of swaying in rear as well.
The subframe has rotted from insufficient protection . This car is unsafe to drive , many us consumers having same problem with this model where the subframe is rusted out. This is a major issue effecting thousands of cars of this model or maybe more.
Rear right side subframe rusted and broke off. Vehicle pulled to the right while braking.
Malfunction of rear subframe and control arms due to rust causing the subframe to crack. When breaking the rear wheels swerved almost causing a collision on the highway. My mechanic inspected the car and deemed it unsafe for driving as this can cause injury or death to me and others. The car is currently being repaired. This problem is being ignored by mbusa, however mb in europe acknowledges the faulty metal and will repair at no cost. There were no warning lamps or messages that made me aware that the subframe is rusted and cracked.
While driving down the highway at approximately 55mph, my car abruptly swerved left nearly causing an accident with the vehicle in the opposite line. My car was taken to my personal mechanic where he found the rear subframe to be completely broken on the left side due to severe rusting. Luckily the break lines were not damaged during the breakage. I investigated this issue online and it seems to be a very common issue in which no recall has been issued. This is a very serious safety issue that very easily could have resulted in a fatality on myself or other and future failures. It is my understanding that Mercedes Benz has a 30-year corrosion warranty but the subframe is not covered. How can this be?.
My car has 85,000 miles on it and the rear trailing arm frame on the drivers side has rusted from the inside out. It is a good thing I have become aware of this, as it was about to break and cause me to lose control of my car. This needs to be recalled before someone gets hurt. In canada and germany mercedes is fixing this for free. Why have americans not been warned about this potentially deadly safety issue? I am reading many common experiences of cars with less than 50,000 miles on them.

1. The component that failed was the rear subframe for the rear transaxle and wheel suspension system. It was inspected by a licensed mb service department and determined the drivers side of the rear subframe had rusted completely through and was separated from the frame. The passenger side of the rear subframe was also severely rusted and at risk of breaking. The subframe is currently being replaced. 2. The subframe to this vehicle holds the transaxle and rear wheel suspension in place, I noticed with a hard breaking the rear of the car swerved, slightly fishtailing. I immediately drove home and parked it until I could drive it to a service/repair facility. If this subframe had completely broken free the entire rear drivetrain would have been severely damaged or completely destroyed or worse, break free from the vehicle and cause a crash. 3. The problem is well known in the auto industry. My service center who inspected my vehicle described it and said it is a well known problem and they have replaced other subframes due to the same issue. I even spoke to an Audi salesman today and they know of it and send these mb vehicles as a trade-in to auction and do not even attempt to replace the subframe. A recall for this problem of the subframe failure due to rust has already been issued for mb in europe for quite some time but no recall in the USA. 4. This vehicle and component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance rep. 5. No warning lamps or any other messages were illuminated to give any warning of a subframe failure due to rust. The first symptom of the problem is the loose rear end with hard breaking causing a slight fishtail of the rear of the car. I experienced this on my drive home from work and afterwards only drove it to my service center.
Glass panoramic sun roof lifted off the vehicle at highway speed, I had to grab the front edge of roof, pull off the expressway. Tried to re seat it in the channels but could not close the roof. Drove 120 miles with roof open holding the front edge down, which continued to try to lift off the vehicle. . My vehicle is mercedes’ 2015 C300. These vehicles have a recall for this very reason but my VIN number is not listed. Don’t know why? need to get my VIN listed for this recall. Please help!.
There is a defect in the subframe of the vehicle which causes it to corrode and rust out. Apparently, this is a known issue with certain years and models, and has already been recalled in europe, but not the us.
This is 2018 Mercedes Benz - C300 and it seems across this model line up and models from that year it looks like headliner particularly fabric starts to separate from the pillars in the rear. Across google there is bunch of C300 with the same issue in the same spot starting. The car is only 5 years old and if it would be any other brand I would not be to upset about it. But this is mercedes and they pride themselves of being a " luxury " vehicle where their standards should be much higher. Needles to say we contacted and went to one of the mercedes dealership that we got charged $226 for the inspection and mercedes did not honored to replace the defect nor mbusa - did not helped either. This is the problem across the model . Be aware and take this into consideration when thinking of purchasing this particular model year C300.
