Tl-the contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that while stationary and driving various speeds, th vehicle made a series of indistinct grinding noises and the steering failed. The vehicle was towed to advanced auto solutions - 35 schuyler avenue, north arlington, new jersey 07031 (201-998-0814) - where the serpentine hydraulic belt was replaced in February of 2018. The failure recurred and the dealer replaced the serpentine hydraulic belt a second time. The contact stated that the indistinct grinding noises continued therafter. The dealer closed the sunroof. The work order status form stated that the dealer checked for noise and removed the ocp, inspected cables for damage, and assessed mechanical cables to make sure they did not slip while driving. In addition, the driver and passenger air bag were replaced, as stated by the work order from the dealer. Thereafter, the contact stated that the esp. Warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact stated that the cruise control became disabled and that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate forward while driving various speeds. Three weeks later the contact stated that the indistinct grinding noises recurred. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of nanuet - 99 NY-304, nanuet, new york 10954 (845) 624-1500 - where it was determined that oil had leaked from underneath the vehicle and that there was a potential fire risk. 3 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2012 Mercedes Benz C300

Failure Date: 11/11/2017

My car caught on fire. I am not sure exactly what caused it or where it started, but there were flames coming out between the tire and the door frame. The car was on while I was parked in a driveway. I ran a report on my vehicle and the tensioner had been replaced before I purchased it and also after I purchased it. I believe it may have something to do with the v-belt tensioner as it was always making screeching sounds. I just want to know how to have my car investigated for the cause of the fire.

4 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz C300

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

Last week took vehicle to get serviced at Mercedes Benz of beverly hills. When I got it back I heard a whistling/flapping noise. Immediately returned to mercedes service. Was told its nothing of concern if the noise only happens in the mornings and dissipates when driving. Expressed concern about a 1100 mile road trip ahead and wanted to make sure it was safe to drive. Was reassured it was just fine. Upon arriving at my destination the noise escalated non-stop come to find out it was the belt tensioner on my vehicle. The serpentine belt was nearly shredded. The vehicle had about 70,000 miles on it. After doing some quick search online, it seems that this is not an isolated issue, but rather a widespread issue with this vehicle. I'm pissed that the service advisor played stupid as if this was not a known widespread issue and put my safety at risk. I've read some owners have had this failure with as little as 15,000 miles and so forth. Mercedes is a fraud and are well aware of these issues they just hope its not apparent while the vehicle is still under warranty.

5 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz C300

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Luckily I took car in for a safety check and belt tensioner was found to be shredding. It should last longer than this and is a safety hazard. This extra visit to the dealer may have save me from having an incident. I otherwise never would've know the belt was shredding.

6 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz C300

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

The belt tensioner for the serpentine belt seized up causing the serpentine belt to shred and causing damage to the upper and lower pulleys. The car became immobile immediately as all the accessories were rendered useless, like the power steering, alternator, etc. As a result, the following had to replaced: serpentine belt, tensioner, upper pulley, and lower pulley. I was very fortunate that this occurred when I was parking in a parking lot after driving on the highway. If this had happened at highway speeds, there is no doubt in my mind that it would have caused a very serious accident, as you would have no steering on the highway. While researching this safety concern online, it seems like this is a relatively common issue with 2008-2011 c-class vehicles. Some were reported to be repaired under warrant while most others had to pay for the repair costs out of pocket. This is a very serious safety concern that can possibly lead injury or death. I spoke with Mercedes Benz corporate regarding this issue and was told that it is not an issue and there is nothing they will do about it. I emphasized how dangerous this can be at highway speeds and they did not seem to be concerned. My recommendation to Mercedes Benz is to recall the 2008-2011 c-class for this issue before it causes a serious injury or death.

7 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz C300

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

Noise coming from front of engine. Brought to a local Mercedes Benz independent shop. They replaced the belt tensioner, idler pulleys, and the multi rib belt. Why would the belt tensioner cause the rib belt to rip with only 62k miles on the car?.
