Hi there - I know my VIN number doesn't recall the front stationary roof panel replacement but this came to my attention as I saw that the panel has faded the top coating and the edges have some very thin cracks I will say. I was not aware of such a thing but googling the issue I found out that NHTSA did start a campaign for this particular safety issue last year. Campaign no. 2024010012, March 2024. My mercedes falls completely on the requirements for repairing/replacing this front panel as the model, year, and type of material of this panel but yet no recall with my VIN number. Just wondering if this is a mistake or something else that I don't know. For now I haven't driven the car for the safety concerns until I have any explanations. Your response in this matter will be very appreciated ! thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

There is a service recall campaign for my model car but dealer/mercedes USA doesn't have the recall linking my car to it from my VIN. Campaign number is p-rc-2021070010. It is to replace the front stationary sunroof panel because it may not have been bonded correctly and could fly off and hit someone. My vehicle did have this same part rattle in 2017 during a cross-country trip.
Roof front panel coating peeling off - there has been a recall for this issue on most Mercedes Benz of my year - not just my model- seems to consistently be an issue for the front panel between windshield and sunroof- https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2021/rcmn-21v197-6244. Pdf my specific VIN wasnt included in the recall but I am having the exact same issue- mercedes told me to reach out to NHTSA to see about getting my VIN batch included in recall or re-issue broader recall to include my VIN # - they will not replace otherwise - so many people online have same issue as me and obviously it was enough of a hazard that the first recall was issued but there are more cars affected by it than what was covered.

On may 10th while driving on I-35 texas highway, the panoramic sunroof of our 2015 Mercedes Benz cla 250 shattered the whole panoramic sunroof, my daughter describes as some shot at the car. There was particles of glass on the driver side and passenger, very dangerous situation. She pulled over into a gas station and noticed there were pieces of glass shattered all over the interior some. The second incident happed about 2 weeks ago on the recalled part, while driving the panoramic sunroof stationary roof panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof part came off while driving and hit the behind, luckily no one was harmed during the incident. I took the recalled letter to the local mercedes in san antonio refusing to fix the recalled part and apparently the part is not available and there is no date as to when is going to be available, in the meanwhile we can't drive the car. Also it took almost 4 months to replace the panoramic roof, I will file another complaint about the panoramic roof, apparently this is a common thing with this model Cla250.

On may 10th while driving on I-35 texas highway, san antonio texas, the panoramic sunroof of our 2015 Mercedes Benz cla 250 completely shattered while wife driving and daughter as a passenger, they heard a big bang and suddenly pieces of shattered glass fell all over the interior some of the glass hitting my wife and daughter in the face, they immediately pulled over to evaluate the situation. This could have caused an accident or significant injury. She had sapd meet her at a gas station as she thought someone has shot at the glass, but officer confirmed that indeed the panoramic sunroof completely shattered. We tried to fix the panoramic roof and both mercedes dealerships in san antonio and boerne texas refused to repair the panoramic sunroof, we had to file a claim with our insurance and take the car to a collision center. The collision center stated that the sunroof was on back order from mercedes corp and had no timeline as to when the part would be available. Due to the car was not safe to drive and timeline on the parts, our insurance offered to total the car, but the car is almost new, low miles and in perfect mechanical condition so we declined. We received a call 4 months later that the car was fixed and the panoramic roof was installed.
The vehicle had been previously serviced in 2019 by a mercedes-benz dealership. The panel between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof was replaced due to paint issues. While driving down the highway, I heard a constant noise but was unable to locate it when driving above 60 mph, after a few minutes the panel ripped off the car onto traffic behind. Thankfully the car behind me was able to brake and was not struck directly by the panel, but did run it over. This VIN is currently not in recall for this issue, but the car does meet the criteria for recall. Recall date 2021-03-18 recall no. 21v197000 mercedes-benz USA, llc (mbusa) is recalling certain 2017-2020 c300 coupe, c43 coupe amg, c43 amg, 2015-2020 c300, gla250, 2016-2018 c350e, cla45 coupe amg, 2015 c400, s65 amg, 2015-2019 c63 amg, 2016 c450, 2015-2016 gla45 amg, s600, 2016-2020 glc300, 2017-2019 glc43 amg, gle43 coupe amg, 2014-2019 Cla250 coupe, 2014-2015 cla45 amg, 2018 glc63 amg, 2014-2017 s550, 2018-2020 s450, 2016-2019 gle63 coupe amg, 2016 gle450 coupe, 2014-2020 s63 amg, 2018-2019 s560, and 2019 glc350e vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof. The front roof panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof may not have been bonded correctly to the vehicle during a prior repair. Recall consequence the adhesive bonding of the front panel might deteriorate, possibly causing the front panel to detach from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Recall action mercedes-benz dealer will remove the bonded panel and will install a new front panel by following the detailed repair instructions and using the approved primer, cleaner and adhesive, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 3, 2021 and October 26, 2021. Owners may contact mbusa customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

The panoramic sunroof failed to close after it was opened. I attempted to close the sunroof after use and it stayed open. This is concerning as debris could have flown into the car and impaired operation. Another concern is the short-circuiting/fire risk of the internal wiring and components in the event of rain. We took the car to the dealership where an associate told us that this is a common problem with cla class cars. This was the only inspection of the car thus far. There were no messages or warnings prior to the failure.
I was driving on the highway and the front panel in between the windshield and the sunroof detached from the car and went flying. Luckily there was no one driving behind me at the time. It was previously repaired in December of 2018. I did some research and saw that my make and model car had a recall issued for this type of incident if you had ever had this part repaired stating that it was done improperly. See: NHTSA campaign 21v197000 recall date: 2021-03-22 for some reason, my VIN is not included in the recall. I'm not sure why not since this exact incident happened to me. I contacted mercedes-benz USA and they are not helping and would not tell me why my car is not included in the recall.
Incident on 10/18/21, while coasting into a parking space, my car suddenly accelerated and smashed into a concrete wall. Damage was extensive and car was determined a loss. Service was maintained throughout ownership. There was no warning, no lights, messages, no abs brakes. Airbag did not deploy. Extensive seatbelt bruising. I'm upset car was a loss but I would never feel safe driving it. It was as if someone else had taken over control and I was powerless to alter the situation.
We received a recall notice advising that the stationary roof panel located between the windshield and sunroof was not bonded correctly and could full detach from the vehicle. While driving on the freeway I heard a wind noise coming from the roof and then without warning the roof panel flew off the vehicle onto the freeway lanes. The piece was not recovered due to the danger of stopping on freeway. This posed an immediate safety threat to us and other drivers. When I contacted mercedes (both local dealer and mbusa) I was told they would not honor the recall since it is still in pending not open. Nowhere is a time frame listed on recall and I did confirm with local mb they have the parts needed to replace this piece. Mb only option was we have to pay for the repair (apprx $1500-1900) and "possibly" receive a reimbursement. The letter specifically states free of charge to complete this recall. I was given a possible time the recall goes to open in Aug or oct, but no guaranty. As of now my vehicle has an open roof section.
The panoramic sunroof glass front cover has detached three times from my 2017 cla 250 (VIN#[xxx]). The first time that it detached was with the previous owner and was repaired at a mercedes dealership in tampa florida. It has since detached twice with me and I have only owned it for 12 months. The first time that it detached with me, I was driving approximately 60 mph on I-85 in montgomery. Al. It blew off and could have definitely caused a very serious accident, but luckily no vehicles were behind me at the time 4/29/21. So I went to the local montgomery, al. Mercedes dealership, jack ingram, and they said that there was no recall and there was nothing that they could do. So I had to purchase my own replacement glass from mercedes and have an auto glass repair CO. Install it. Fast-forward to 6/18/21, the newly installed roof glass blew off again as I was driving down s. R. 115 in montgomery, al. I was going 55 at the time. This time it blew off and several cars had to swerve to miss it. One vehicle did run over it a broke it in two. Traffic has to stop while I jumped out and picked it up from the row. I guess mercedesbenz USA will make this right once it flies off for the 4th time and seriously injures someone or worse. Can someone please help me with this issue? Last week on March 31st I went to turn my vehicle on since I wanted to move it from my parking spot in the neighborhood to my garage in order for me to go to the grocery store shortly with my 2 month old baby. As soon as I put the key in the ingnition slot and turn the key I heard like a zapping noise instantly and noticed in a matter of seconds smoke coming from underneath the steering wheel area. Sort of near the floor os the drivers side. I immediately hop out of the vehicle to see what had happened and where the smoke was coming from and just as quickly flames started coming from the same area as the smoke. I called 911 and in less than 3 minutes the entire inside of the vehicle was in flames, burning down. The flames then blew all the windows and moon roof trying to escape the vehicle and by the time the fire rescue came most of the vehicle was gone. I thank god I didnt get to move this vehicle as I had originially planned because it would have cost me my life and my families. I owned this vehicle only about 3 years and it never ever gave me problems. All of its maintanance was up to date and never had any electrical issues or major repairs due to anything. I am almost certain this was a fuse or electrical problem that caused the vehicle to burst into flames due to the zapping noise I heard as the vehicle was being turned on. I had been driving this vehicle perfectly fine which is why this came as a huge surprise. I want to make sure others are aware of this issue since its a huge risk. My specific vehicle has never had any recalls and im always checking and up to date with everything. I will be contacting the Mercedes Benz manufacturing company to let them know of this as well.
Front panel deteriorate, delamination of surface over the entirety of the piece.
Sunroof is faulty in this model. Mercedes have recalled earlier models due to similar issue. The have recalled 750k cars today due to this issue and we are seeing similar problems in our 2015 c class. This issue is very serious and dangerous as the sunroof could potentially fly off myself and my wife were driving at normal speed on the highway when we suddenly heard the noise. When we stopped by to check the issue, it seemed like the sunroof was getting detached. When we tried to close it, it made a big bang noise as if something has not been placed correctly. Ever since the sunroof has not been closed properly and we could hear the wind noise inside. This happened couple of months ago.
I was driving my car on local streets, suddenly I heard a cracking noise from the sunroof. After that I pulled my car aside and notice that there was a small crack on the sunroof. (see attached photos) there was no falling foreign objects, no impact from the weather. I have no clue what is the cause of the day crack. My first reaction was to call the insurance company and find a parking lot to store the car. After I contacted the insurance company and I was on my way to the parking lot, the sunroof shattered completely. Some of the glass piece even fell and caused injury to my wife. This was definitely a manufacture defect because there was no impact from the outside at that time and you can also clearly tell from the picture of the crack. It is not caused by any fallen foreign object. I was not able to drive the car anymore at the risk of my family's injury so I called the mb roadside assistance to have the car tolled. The shattered sunroof not only cause diversion of the driver's attention and also cause body injury from the fallen glass pieces. Mercedes is not responding to the complain. Dealer is taking the responsibility on this issue and charge me $2,400 to repair the sunroof. I did a search on internet and I noticed that similar cases are widely seen worldwide, see below links to recent incidents in California and uk. Https://twitter. . Read more...
"takata recall" the driver was killed in a car accident on March 21st 2018 and the car was on a recall. The accident was at ockechobee road, miami, FL with 11th street. The car was in motion. The driver received a letter from mercedes-benz in November 2017 stating that the car had an insufficient electrical grounding in the steering column components and that this could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag causing a risk of a potential crash, but that unfortunately the remedy was not available yet. Despite of this, the driver took the car to a mercedez-bens dealer in the same month, on November 29th 2017, and nothing was made about the problem. The accident was tragic. It was at 2:40pm and two minutes before 2:38pm the driver spoke to his wife and everything was well. Also the autopsy didn't show anything wrong with his healthy conditions. He was an amazing father, husband and very calm person. A part of the investigations shows that there is no break marks on the floor, which shows that the drive lost the control of the car. His son (16) was in the car with him and had a lot of injuries and still is recovering. Because all of this evidences, I believe that the airbag deployed on his face causing him to loose control of the car.
I was involved in an accident 12/14/17, in which my car was totaled. I was driving on a three lane highway when someone hit me on my rear passenger side panel & then I hit a light pole head on. The cars were going at least 65mph or more. My airbags did not deploy from the initial impact (which blew out my rear passenger window on impact) or the car hitting the pole(the pole came completely down on impact). I have the investigation form & the police report number if needed.
Sunroof exploded while driving down the road at approximately 30 mph. Not near any overpasses or other vehicles.
While driving on the highway, I heard a sudden loud explosion, the panorama sunroof shattered and glass rained down on me and everywhere within the car. There was no evidence of anything hitting the car or the sunroof, it just spontaneously exploded.
The contact owns a 2014 mercedes-benz Cla250. The contact stated while driving 60 mph an eight foot piece of molding on the right side of the vehicle came apart. The contact pulled over and removed the molding from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer. The contact did not call the manufacturer regading the defect. The failure mileage was 630.
