1 Body problem of the 1997 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

* left front substrate to which the coil spring perch mounts is badly rusted and the spring is about to come off under pressure of the cars weight, thereby endangering myself and the general public. The car was towed to feldmann imports, a mercedes-benz dealer at 4901 american blvd west, bloomington , mn 55437 (952) -641-7908 and can be inspected there. * if the spring perch loosens any further, the coil spring would shoot off and likely interfere with the steering system, fuel lines and any number of other components on the vehicle, also there have been reports of the spring going out of the car under pressure and hitting other objects. * yes, my car was in for another matter at lamettry's collision center, of eden prairie, mn for a (minor dent) and (braden) of lamettry's said upon inspection of the spring perch that the car was undrivable and could not be fixed. * feldmann imports is currently looking at my car and feldmann said that I should call mercedes-benz USA which my brother-in-law walter anderson did for me and is waiting for a call back. * there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptom's of the problem prior to the discovery by lemettry's, in fact, feldmann import's inspected my car 12 times over the years with no mention of this serious condition. Upon searching the internet and other sources I believe that it is incumbent upon the NHTSA to issue a recall on all these cars, there are several different models that use this thin wall substrate mercedes-benz has out on the road that must be endangering the lives and property of the owners and the public at large.

2 Body problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 09/06/2021

The trunk will not open. It is supposed to open by pressing the button on the key fob or taking the thin key out of the key fob and manually open the truck with the keyed lock. Neither method works. There is absolutely no way to open the trunk otherwise (I. E. Inside button or lever). When the key fob button and the thin key do not work there is absolutely no way to open the truck. There is no way to access the lock from the trunk lid rear and there is no way to access the trunk from behind the back seat cushions. It is a very bad situation and dangerous.

3 Body problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

Checking on unrepaired recall NHTSA#19v91832/recall#2019120012. This recall described as problem with bonding between glass panel and the sliding roof frame, which could lead in separation of the glass panel from the vehicle. I interpret this to be the sunroof glass detaching from the frame endangering others. This recall appears to be open on my vehicle. Please advise any further information. I have had no problems thus far.

5 Body problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

Heavy fuel odor emanating from vehicle. Vehicle and possibly structures could catch fire if fuel is leaking and an ignition source is introduced. Only viable reason why fuel odor is present is either the fuel tank is leaking at a location or the vent has failed. Vehicle fuel odor is especially strong if vehicle was filled up recently but is present 24/7.

6 Body problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 09/08/2017

I pushed the remote button on the key fob to unlock the car and the left rear door popped open , now I cannot close the door. The lock will not catch to close the door. Had to tie the door shut with the seatbelt to drive it home. I'm being told that the door lock just all of a sudden went bad , it could have happen while driving. The lock has to be replaced , cost . . . Over $500 it seems strange to me that this part is so overpriced compared to other models. It has to be a defect that mercedes is well aware of. I'm glad I wasn't in motion when it happen . I feel this should be a recall.

8 Body problem of the 1998 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

Had an inspection on Friday. Found passenger shock tower broken from the body frame, this is an extremely dangerous situation. Looked in Mercedes Benz world website, and saw many many complaints about this typical issue, people must not be reporting this typical rust of the spring tower to body rust issue. Apparently there is a recall for this issue in canada but not in USA.

9 Body problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

On opening the driver's door from the inside, the driver suffered a deep laceration of the middle finger as a result of sharp edges of the chipping metal coat of the door handle. Upon further inspection, it appears that the plating of the inner edge of the handle is delaminating from the plastic structure, leaving protruding, sharp edges on the very part of the handle used to open the door. This may also be a potential site of bacterial infections.

10 Body problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

While driving at 45mph to go to work my car lost the brakes. The display showed brakes defective. Luckily I had plenty of space to stop the car with emergency brakes. I did diagnostic on the car and the sensotronic brake control sbc unit as mercedes-benz calls it (the brake unit) was defective. This is unacceptable defect and could be life threatening to others if they loose the brakes like I did while driving. Dealer diagnosed the car as well and replaced the sbc pump.

11 Body problem of the 1998 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/25/2011

Some rust damage has been observed on the body of the car for quite some time, but no mercedes mechanics suggested it was structural or dangerous. Recently, a loud creaking noise from the front right tire began to occur when driving, especially when subjected to bumps, even at very low speeds. By removing the tire, we discovered that the creaking was from the poorly designed suspension cap, which had rusted and broken partially off, bending the spring against the axle. This damage is extremely dangerous, as no mercedes mechanics identified the rust at this point, and if the cap snapped off, the entire wheel carriage would break. If the car had been operating at high speeds, this kind of failure, which could occur instantly when subjected to a normal shock impact, could cause a serious or fatal accident. The cap is definitely a very dangerous design flaw, especially as the mercedes structure rusts (which they claim no accountability for), and many of these cars could easily be on the road today. Thus, we believe that significant danger to the consumer public is completely ignored by mercedes-benz, which we feel is an appalling lack of concern and complete oversight on the part of the company.

12 Body problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

The inside door lock stems keep breaking off. I have replaced them with non mercedes parts. The ones I purchased don't fit very well but the ones from mercedes don't hold up. They keep breaking.

13 Body problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 07/04/2010

Problem #1). The interior driver and passenger door handles have a chrome tape of some type that covers the handles. This tape overtime comes off on the inside and it is extremely sharp like a razor. I cut my finger twice on the driver-side and a passenger got cut on the passenger side a year later. I contacted mercedes about this and they wouldn't do or offer anything. Problem #2). The driver and passenger sun visors overtime get very very stiff and will not go back all the way up. My wife can not even move them at all. I also verbally reported these problems to penske mercedes in west covina, CA to my service writer and he stated "yes we are aware as it is a common problem however there is no recall on those items". He wanted to charge me $275 for each sun visor to be replaced and that did not include labor to install them. Problem #3). Lower ball joints go out quite frequently and is also a "known common problem".

14 Body problem of the 1999 Mercedes Benz E320

After turning into the parking lot of a repair shop, the front of the vehicle dropped to the ground. Further investigation by the repair shop found that the front spring perch had failed.
