Mercedes Benz E320 owners have reported 6 problems related to brake sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On 12/16/2020 while driving the brakes on my vehicle failed. A red warning triangle appeared on the vehicle message board stating the cars braking ability was severely reduced and to stop driving immediately. I was able to drift to the side of the road without incident and had the vehicle towed to my mechanic. The mechanic could find no mechanical reason for the brake failure. The red warning light was gone and the brakes were functioning normally. Online research revealed an extended warranty/recall for the year, make and model of the car related to brake failure. Mercedes will replace the sensortronic brake control module (sbc) free provided the correct codes are evident when they diagnose the car. (safety recall #2005110001 I believe) my mechanic said that there are no codes showing for the brakes and the brakes are now functioning. My online research has shown that this can be an intermittent problem and the dealerships are reluctant or will not replace the sbc if there are no codes. After contacting mercedes the car is being towed to the dealership as I type this. I am hopeful that mercedes will do the correct thing and replace their admittedly flawed brake module but it isn't looking good as they said if the correct codes do not appear they will not replace. The insane idea that I am expected to continue to drive the vehicle until the brakes fail again in order to get them replaced is unacceptable. I'm in a no win situation.

The contact owns a 2003 Mercedes Benz e-320. The contact stated the brakes and spc warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brakes and sensors were replaced however, the failure recurred. While driving at 35 mph the brake pedal was depressed however but failed to slow and stop the vehicle as designed. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. Additionally, the brake pedal fluctuated. The vehicle was taken to w. I. Simonson mercedes-benz (1626 wilshire blvd, santa monica, CA 90403 (855) 677-2690), where it was diagnosed that the spc reservoir was defective, and hydraulic unit also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted nor informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 216,722.

I'm lucky to be alive! I purchased this car in 2005 and ever since I purchased my 2003 merc. Benz E320, it's been a crazy ride! here's a list of different issues that happened to me over the course of me owning this vehicle, which unfortunately I still do. I was driving with my little girl in tow and my brakes went out on me several times, my battery dies constantly, I had an issue when after I pumped gas you could smell fuel both inside my car & outside of my car, I literally one time had fuel pouring from the back of my car that ended on my garage floor. (thank god I don't smoke!) my suspension is constantly rattling, I have water that leaks on my feet when I drive occasionally and sometimes I have heat in the winter and sometimes I don't. I always have a check engine light on and as soon as I fix one, another one comes on. I currently had issues with code po134, po135 and had the O2 sensor changed, then my check engine light came back on and now I have codes po171 & po174 that I have no idea how to get fixed because it could be a number of issues. My battery drains when my electric seats are plugged in and so I have to have them unplugged to save my battery. Did I mention my back tire blew out on interstate 95 and I almost lost control of my car. It's devastating to pay the amount of money you do for this particular model, it's pretty on the outside and is a mess under the hood! is it normal when you have the ac on for it to sound like an airplane ready for take off? I'm tired of investing all kinds of money into this car, I just can't take it anymore! I can't even pass my va. State emissions test because of all these error codes (check engine light and malfunctions) and the state doesn't even find my car worthy of being on the roads.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320. The contact stated that the abs sensor illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the braking control sbc system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic ). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. Dyd.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz E320. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer every 4-6 weeks due to a loud sound coming from the brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they replaced the brake pedal, all the switches relating to the brakes, the computer was shut down three times, sensors were replaced, and the ball in the brakes were replaced, which allowed carbon dioxide to leak into the brake system. The ninth time the vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was informed that the brakes could not be repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 28,000. Updated 10/14/08.

Abs/bas/esp light came on repeatedly. My mechanic determined it was a "rate of turn" gyroscopic sensor that can adjust the throttle or make other electronic adjustments depending on the sensor's data. The mechanic contacted mercedes, who told him that this $950 part has been "selling like hot cakes" and that problems with the sensor in this vehicle are "very common. " this is a safety issue and a very expensive part that I'm sure mercedes does not want to have to issue a recall on. Mine is not an isolated incident and should be looked into.
