The contact owns a 2007 mercedes E350. The contact stated that the power steering disabled while the contact was driving. The dealer diagnosed that the power steering pump would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v459000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:pump) recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 32,000. The VIN was unavailable.
While driving and changing gears from first to second, at or around 10 - 20 rpm my engine became uncontrollable and jerked sporadically. I could not control the vehicle until it changed into 3rd gear and then began to drive as normal. The car does this repeatedly now until I feel it has become unsafe to drive. The jerking is random so I don't know when to expect it and what to do when it happens. It has caused me to veer off the road occasionally.
Steering column would not lock and had a lot of play turning back and forth. When trying to restart on multiple occasions needed to turn wheel back and forth until the key would engage and start engine. No dtc codes for start issue. Replaced eis costing $1,100 so can only hope this is the only problem. Vehicle only has 67,600 miles.
