Seven problems related to front seat heater/cooler have been reported for the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Appoximate 7 or 8 minutes after cutting on drivers seat heater. I smell something burning. Stopped vehicle when I notice smoke, cut the car off. The left side of seat back was smoldering. Hole burnt through size of dime. Also burned hole in my leather jacket I was wearing.
I was using the warming seats and had pulled up to the post office to drop a letter in the box. The letter had fallen to the ground. I got out and placed the letter in the box. I got back in the car and pulled up to keep from holding up traffic while I had replaced my seat belt. A SUV had crossed my path when I smelled something burning. I assumed it was exhaust from the SUV. I was about to pull off the parking lot when I noticed thick white smoking coming from my seat. I immediately turned off the seat warmer. The smoke dissipated afterwards. I continued to drive the car about 1/2mile to the grocery store. I got out and noticed a burn on seat.
My wife was driving when she smelled something burning and then felt something burning, she pulled over and jumped out to check and found the seat warmer had malfunctioned and burned through the back portion of the seat. Her shirt had a slight burn to it and smoke covered interior of the car. The hole in the seat is about the size of a cigarette burn but deeper. She took it to the import repair shop who disconnected the power source wire to the seat heater for safety.
Driving 25-30 mph and smoke started poring out from under the drivers seat after turning on the seat heater and a small burn hole appeared on the left side of the upper seat back. Major safety issue since the cabin of the vehicle filled with smoke. Took the car to the dealer where they had to order a new seat back and would not cover the repairs.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes Benz E350. The contact stated while driving 25 mph burning fumes were emitted into the vehicle. Once he stopped the vehicle, he realized that the drivers seat heater malfunctioned and burned a hole through the seat. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 38,000.
Turned drivers seat heat feature on, after a few minutes I smelled burning. Mercedes just repaired a/c (3 visits) so turned off the a/c. Next think I know smoke is coming from drivers seat, my 3yr old riding in her car seat "installed" behind me. Heater in drivers seat was burning, with the air no longer blowing, smoke was now visible. I had to cross 3 lanes of traffic to pull over. The "fire" burned a hole through the leather seat to my jeans leaving me a slight burn. Car towed to mercedes.
My husband was driving when he smelled something burning and then felt something burning, he pulled over and jumped out to check and found the seat warmer had malfunctioned and burned through the seat, his shirt and had slightly burned him.
