Body problems of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350

Driving down interstate 65 just south of bay minette alabama and doing approximately 70mph, there was a total failure of the sunroof. This happened where crazing started and then a catastrophic failure of the glass, blowing out the sunroof. This happened in the space of about 30 seconds. It appears to be the exact circumstance outlined in NHTSA recall #24v874000. Shards of glass entered the cabin, and while there were no injuries, the passenger was hit in the face with debris. The car behind, although hit with some glass, swerved to avoid it and moved on without stopping. No police report was filed. The car was previously inspected by mercedes under the recall and we were told that the glass was fine and mb closed the recall on this particular VIN. This is a post inspection failure. Mercedes have so far, refused to honor any type of recall work to replace the roof. At this time, I have opened a case with mb USA and await an outcome.

The trunk safety release inside the trunk will not open the trunk. It is an electrical switch and not a cable pull release. If you get in the trunk and the battery is low, you cannot get out. There is not a passage between the rear seat and the trunk. There is not a manual release for the trunk. The only way to get inside is cutting through the trunk lid or deck.

The panoramic roof gets stuck in open position and makes the car dangerous for flying objects into the car also I feel more dangerous for my safety and for life. In my car we have repaired the roof several times, again now the roof is stuck in open position. I believe this should be a factory recall issue as this is very marginal and poor design to result in failure so often.

At low speed , coming out of a grocery store parking lot, car went into sudden unintended acceleration without any warning. Fully pressing on the brake failed to slow or stop the car. With the brake not working and the car accelerating very fast the car became out of control until it crashed with a large rock /boulder when it stopped. There was extensive damage the the whole front half of the car. The car had to be towed in. I sustained a significant bruises of my breast bone and adjoining ribs. I am still in pain. This same exact malfunction with this same car as noted above occurred in 2013. I paid extra for mb to have an engineer examine the car but I was told nothing was wrong. On both occasions the air bags did not deploy.

Panoramic sunroof exploded outward, with anything striking the car. On the road alone with no other vehicles, the glass shattered upward, held in place for a bit until I could exit, then falling inward as I pulled into a service station.
