Wood trim throughout the car is cracking and falling off the car on the dash board as well as the doors and the rear side panels. The trim pieces that remain on the car are very sharp and jagged and are a significant risk for cuts in day to day use. In the event of an accident a passenger could be seriously injured from this jagged wood . My car is a 2011 E550 convertible, the w207 platform, the very same car in 4 door form the w212 platform, from model year 2010-2016 is fully covered for wood replacement as NHTSA has deemed it a safety issue. I have been told by Mercedes Benz corporate there is no coverage for my car, they suggested I report this safety issue to NHTSA in the hopes of having this safety issue addressed as quickly as possible. I respectfully request help in getting the issue with the wood in my car covered under the same safety consideration. Thank you.

The panaramic sunroof had gotten stuck open and gears or something are not engaging at times, sounds like motor grinds and the sunroof slips off track and closed unevenly. Will not open back up.

The issue with the vehicle's electrical causing power to the starter to stay on even after the vehicle is in the park and turned off, the starter's solenoid and other electrical parts burn, its a serious fire hazard and needs to be addressed immediately.
The passenger door will not open from the inside. The vehicle has not been inspected by any parties yet. No warning messages are currently displayed.
My car has this issue that when I am slowing down it will automatically shift to park and will not let me shift to drive until I turn the car off and on. When rolling to a stop, I've had a few instances where the car shifts to park and the car behind me almost hits me due to the car shifting on its own and not allowing me to proceed with the flow of traffic. This puts not only me, but the person behind me at risk. I took the car to a mechanic and he stated that there was no recall for this issue but that I should contact you (NHTSA). The mechanic stated that the component that might be failing is the electrical ignition switch, basically telling the car that there is no key in the ignition. There are no warning lights or any other indication. This has happened to me a multiple times. When this happens, since I am not at a complete stop, it shifts to park and grinds my transmission. This causes the car to abruptly stop without having my foot on the brake to warn the drivers behind me.

The air suspension intermittently drops the car, resulting in a warning light that says car too low, pull over. You have to stop the car wherever it happens immediately as the car is so low it rubs the wheels on the wheel wells. I've had to stop on the side of two different freeways and up in the mountains when it was 10 degrees outside. It will usually raise back up if you turn the car off and on several times, but sometimes it may take much longer for it to raise back up. Sometimes when I come out in the morning the car has lowered as well.
Airmatic suspension failure. Car has excessive lowering after overnight period of sitting and uneven ride.
Collision hazard warning. Neither the visual warning on the dash or the audio warning works properly. The visual and audio warning will activate when there are no cars anywhere in the vicinity. But if a cars slows or stops suddenly in front, there will be no visual or audio warning.

Just purchased this 2008 E550 with 100k miles on it. It was inspected and said to be a great maintained vehicle with no issues. I was driving on a city street and a red indicator light came on telling me stop car too low. Car was in sport mode with the vehicle raised button indicator light on. I drove back to my house and parked the vehicle, as it sat for an approximate 1 hour I noticed it drop significantly. I turned the vehicle on too see if it would raise again and the compressor was still working but no movement was happening. I looked it up online and there has been numerous accounts of these vehicles having the same issue. I just spent 20k on a vehicle that lasted me 7 days. The dealership stated that the fix could cost me a few thousand depending on what they find. This is ridiculous and something needs to be done for all owners of the airmatic systems. They are faulty and are too expensive to be going back and forth to the dealer to be serviced. Great vehicle with a huge flaw.
Beginning sometime in may 2013, the car began leaking fumes into the passenger cabin which made me very ill. After taking it to both park place mercedes here in dallas, and then Mercedes Benz of plano, neither service department could determine what was wrong with the vehicle. After repeated attempts to get to the bottom of the matter with park place, I took it to Mercedes Benz of plano in November 2013. They evaluated the car, changed the battery, and gave the car back to me in December of 2013 for a weekend, claiming it was fixed. The car, however, was continuing to leak fumes into the passenger cabin, sickening me again. I returned the car to them for further evaluation. They claimed to have repaired it, but instead of getting in the car, I sent an industrial hygienist to test the inside air of the car, after starting it up and letting it run for about 15 minutes. That test found unusually large concentrations of ethanol, propene, isopropanol, acetone, toluene, hexane, and cyclohexane -- chemicals which all appear to be components of gasoline. I am still, as of this writing, in October 2014, wrangling with Mercedes Benz and Mercedes Benz of plano over repair to my car. I would be happy to provide you with a copy of the report of the air test from the interior of my 2011 Mercedes Benz E550 coupe.
