When I filled up gas and start the car, it has gas smell. Seems like fuel is pooling on the left side on top of the fule filter module underneath the cushion. Searched the internet and found out it is a common problem on mercedes.

I filled the vehicle up with gas and it started smelling very strong of gas for the next two weeks and I discovered gas underneath the driver's rear seat. . . I cleaned up the gas but continued to smell strong fuel vapors and I'm just below three quarters of a tank the 15-year warranty is over. The mercedes dealer says that they can't do anything for free and I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be rectified before someone dies in an explosion. . . No warning lights showed up but it is a common problem on the e-class due to a cracked fuel filter housing module.

The seal that connects the fuel level sensor to the fuel tank has failed, allowing fuel to leak onto the top of the tank when it’s filled. This creates a serious risk of fire or explosion. Unfortunately, mercedes does not offer a remedy unless you pay a prohibitively high fee.
I have been reported to have a fuel leak.

I just noticed a very potent gas odor on the rear both right and left side of the car. There are no leaks on the garage floor or my driveway. I know there was a recall for the 2003-2006 e-class, but was there one for 2007-2009 models as well? I just noticed it today and I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle, car has about 78k on the odometer.
Gas leaking from rear area of vehicle; strong fuel odor after refueling.
Strong gas vapors and possible fuel leakage. Gas vapors are really strong when vehicle is parked in garage immediately. The gas vapors can be smelled while driving causing the fumes to be inhaled and dizziness. This can not be safe.
There is a strong gasoline smell every time I fill my mercedes. The car has only 16,500 miles. I have seen numerous cases of this online and am concerned about storing it in my garage.

Gas smell in the cabin of the car and outside the car - smells like a gas leak under the back seat.
Beginning sometime in may 2013, the car began leaking fumes into the passenger cabin which made me very ill. After taking it to both park place mercedes here in dallas, and then Mercedes Benz of plano, neither service department could determine what was wrong with the vehicle. After repeated attempts to get to the bottom of the matter with park place, I took it to Mercedes Benz of plano in November 2013. They evaluated the car, changed the battery, and gave the car back to me in December of 2013 for a weekend, claiming it was fixed. The car, however, was continuing to leak fumes into the passenger cabin, sickening me again. I returned the car to them for further evaluation. They claimed to have repaired it, but instead of getting in the car, I sent an industrial hygienist to test the inside air of the car, after starting it up and letting it run for about 15 minutes. That test found unusually large concentrations of ethanol, propene, isopropanol, acetone, toluene, hexane, and cyclohexane -- chemicals which all appear to be components of gasoline. I am still, as of this writing, in October 2014, wrangling with Mercedes Benz and Mercedes Benz of plano over repair to my car. I would be happy to provide you with a copy of the report of the air test from the interior of my 2011 Mercedes Benz E550 coupe.
