Mercedes Benz E Class owners have reported 15 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I reiterate . . . . This vehicle is a death trap! Mercedes Benz installed power seat controllers in this car that fail very frequently. This design flaw causes the unit to run power seat components constantly even when the car is parked, key removed and the car is locked. Within 2-11 hours, the activity of this fault seat controller unit drains the car battery! when you try to jump start the car as per Mercedes Benz owners manual instructions, the process causes the rear left sam (signal acquisition and actuator module driver side) to lose partial or full memory. This affects a whole host of systems including fuel delivery, tail & head lights. Items that are essential to operating a vehicle on the public roads safely! the other day, April 25th, 2014, the fuel delivery on my 2002 mb c32 amg failed suddenly while I was on the highway! the loss of power was so sudden that I had to swerve off the road and onto the shoulder; hitting my head on the drivers side window in the process! having researched this extensively and have found that these are known problems since the introduction of the car in 2002. Instead of a voluntary recall, Mercedes Benz did a patch job of replacing faulty sams for owners still under warranty, and only in cases where the owners complained or had three or more visits to a Mercedes Benz dealer service department. I started the car in the morning, and it gave me a malfunction message stating that the display is defective. The fuel gauge display doesn't read the proper level, the backup lights do not work, the signals and hazard lights do not operate, the wipers do not work. The features of auto adjusting the steering wheel tilt, the mirrors, and the seats are not working. Checked for recalls, found a similar recall in July of 2008, but the service representative at the dealership said my VIN number wasn't included!.

I am the owner of a 2000 e320. I have been having chronic problems with headlamps, fog lights, and brake lamps going out very frequently. Often, I receive an error message that the "lamps are inoperable", after checking all bulbs, I find this is not the case, mercedes may not admit to this, but there is an electrical problem with many of their cars. I have just recently (two days ago) had my passenger side bulb housing melt away. Dont know how long that been happening. I believe I am lucky that the car has not caught on fire as of yet with all of the electrical issues. The only good news I have about these constant problems is, the body repair company for mercedes-benz of south atlanta (GA), will see me on Monday to see if they can replace the headlamps housing, provided they have one in stock. So, "wish me luck" and pray for mercedes to do the right thing before something bad happens to one of their customers. . . . . .

Mercedes benz 2006 e350. The steering wheel electrical harness is to short and comes apart disabling all airbags. The dealer says that this is a common problem and that the company won't pay to correct it. The repair is prohibitive at $715. 00
this is definitely a safety defect!!.

90k miles gauge cluster led clock and outside temperature displays failing. Can not read number. Not a major problem, but it has less than 100k miles and it's a 2000 I had a 1996 and now a 1993 with almost twice the mileage and all the displays work.
The stop lamp switch, which activates the stop lamps, ant-lock brakes, traction control mechanisms, on my 2001 Mercedes Benz e320 has needed to be replaced 4 times in the past 5 years. The part number that continually goes bad is 001-545-64-09. The most recent replacement was 09-12-09.

While driving the vehicle, a small amount of condensation dripped from a water bottle sitting in the center cup holder. Immediately, the widows went down startling me as to what was happening. The window became unresponsive and at this point was stuck in the down position. I was able to put the window up using the keyless remote. Later that day, the switch began to work the windows but the rear windows no longer work from the front switches nor does the left side mirror. Upon investigation, others have had this same issue proving a design flaw. The electronic circuitry positioned below the cup holder is not water proof and the slightest amount of water will short circuit the system. Others have had the entire transmission lock due to the water ingress. Mercedes benz should provide repair under a recall and provide a repair that will water proof the circuits.
: the contact stated while driving 20 mph the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. Upon inspection, the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem and no repairs were made. The manufacturer was alerted. The consumer stated the air bag and engine light illuminated. 2000 e320 cluster is not working what number and date is not showing up. I see alot of people have this same problem I am having.
The car has been a disappointments since I got it in January 28,2003. It has had many problems and the dealership said its fix. Autohaus Mercedes Benz in pompano beach , florida sold me a car that has been to the shop more than 10 times . 1)whippers very loud and don't clean. 2) fuel gauge does not work 3) tire sensors do not work 4)stereo shuts off and on 5)alignment problem car pulls to the right. 6)engine is very loud 7)engine hesitates. 8) sos malfunction 9)Mercedes Benz phone does not work. 10) lowjack system that they installed has not worked properly since they put it on. When they sold me the car they said that they were going to come out with a gps and a voice activate kit for the Mercedes Benz and now they tell me that they were not going to make it for my car so I was lied too . My car has been to the shop more than 10 times and still not fix and the service manager has lied to me because he said that the items are fix and two days later they are bad again . I will not recommend Mercedes Benz to anyone as they are not what they just to be. Also I will not recommend to anyone autohaus in pompano beach , florida they do not believe in customer service and they service manager jerry odessy only lies to people as it did to me several times and he is also very rude . I have also e-mail the president of autohaus and he has never responded and the corporate office is not to far behind about customer service and rudeness . Do not buy mercedes there are a lot of better car out there . If you buy a mercedes make sure you car was not in a flood as I read that a lot of their cars were in a flood and they are selling them like nothing happend.
My 2003 e 320 has been in the shop 3 times because when I come to a stop at times it will suddenly shut off and all the lights on the instrument cluster will light up. The problem is intermittent and the vehicle has 19,000 miles on it.
On the '03 & '04 E Class there is no way to set up the preference for the radio to scan to the next pre-set station from the wheel, or any where else. Its is not a choice to be selected in settings or any where else. It will always scan to the next frequency that is on air. The '02s had the choice available to the owner in "settings", but not the new E Class (w211's) in the USA.
I own a 2003 e-class Mercedes Benz purchased this year from ralley motors, roslyn, new york. Since I took the title to the vehicle, there has been uncontrolled mild acceleration at low speeds, the car bucks and shakes upon DE-acceleration resulting in my having lost control of the vehicle and consequently requiring my jamming abruptly on the brakes to avoid hitting another vehicles and pedestrians. In addition, the car had significantly steered to the right at all times, requiring my constantly having to steer to the left in order to drive straight ahead. The dealership has admitted that it can not repair the transmission problem, ie; the uncontrolled change of speed, bucking and acceleration of the motor vehicle. They have also replaced the instrument cluster which I believe is an important vehicle computer which controls many systems of the car, and the vehicle now has the third instrument cluster, all in one year of ownership, all due to product defects! the service manager has admitted to me that there is a design defect in the transmission which there allegedly is no fix to correct the problem. I was informed that due to horrible gas mileage, the torque converter of the transmission is specifically designed to lock up at low speeds, and this is the reason why the 2003 and 2004 e-class automobiles have this transmission problem. The service manager had advised me that he know of no fix from the factory. The dealership became frustrated when I expressed my displeasure, and has now informed me that they will no longer service my brand new automobile. The consumer stated the engine stalled, the wiper blades were noisy.
Small amount of fluid spilled from cup holder in 2000 e320 during braking. Disabled the car almost immediately by destroying electronic transmission system. Carbecame stuck in 2nd gear. When pulled off highway and tried to restart, car was stuck in park. Told by mb dealer in fresno, CA that even minute amounts of liquid will disable the car in this way. Car disabled in same way in may 2000 but was never told by mb that problem was due to moisture or using cup holder. Not informed of this problem when car was leased in 2000.
Vehicle has two defects that may indirect cause injury and are very expensive to repair. The vehicle has a sunroof directly over the shifting console and has a console that opens to hold liquids directly over the shifting console. When there was less than one minute of light rain, it will get down in the shifter and the vehicle would become undriveable and must be towed to the nearest dealer. The vehicle was only 4 months old and mercedes did not cover moisture damage within the warranty. During moderate rain and wet (not flooded) streets, as the consumer stopped the vehicle, the windows began to go up and down, the alarm went off and on, and the lights went on and off by themselves. Model/e-320.
