Power Steering Fluid Problems of Mercedes Benz M Class

Mercedes Benz M Class owners have reported 3 problems related to power steering fluid (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 1999 Mercedes Benz M Class

Failure Date: 10/07/2009

When trying to turn my vehicle from a parking lot, there was a sudden leakage of power steering fluid and the steering wheel became so hard to turn. The car was not in drivable condition and I towed it to my nearest service station. After diagnosis, power steering hose and clamp were replaced and the car is running good now. Later I found that this is a known issue in 1999 mercedes ml 320 and found recall campaign details of this issue in NHTSA website. But when I called mercedes USA to get a reimbursement for the repair cost, they are refusing to give reimbursement for a strange reason. I am still following this issue with them.

2 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2000 Mercedes Benz M Class

Failure Date: 03/26/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Mercedes Benz ml. In December of 2008, the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have it repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 08v465000 (steering: hydraulic power assist: hose, piping). After the repair, he noticed that the vehicle was still leaking fluid. The dealer stated that if he brought the vehicle back, he would be charged for the repair. The manufacturer stated that they would call him back, but they never did. On March 26, 2009, while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle pulled to the right and the contact lost control of the steering. The vehicle veered to the side of the road and was towed to a repair shop. The mechanic found that the power steering fluid was leaking on the belts and caused the steering to fail. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 100,000.
