The vehicle was towed to the dealership for inspection and determined there was NHTSA recall #03v121000 for the steering hydraulic power assist hose, piping and connections. The hose clamp on the power steering hose was replaced. Updated 5/2/2006 - the vehicle had been recalled and replaced in 2003 for the hose clamps. Contact was told by mercedes that this failure did not involve the clamp but the hose wore out. Also, was told that the steering failure had nothing to do with the mechanic who had serviced the vehicle 2 days prior. It was just something that happened, and that there are no problems with the current clamp/ hose in the steering column. When the contact pickup the vehicle from dealer noticed a charge for replacing the steering hose clamp and lower hose. Vehicle towed to mbm for repairs. I indicated to the service rep that I was also experiencing abrupt shifting. Repairs in progress. I drove the ml 350 into my garage ~9am Saturday morning, pushed in the transmission button, heard typical transmission sound and steeped out of vehicle to unload before heading for additional errands leaving the door open and engine running. Failure Date: 11/25/2003

I brought the car to the dealer (hbl Mercedes Benz of tyson's corner, va) in August 2003 due to a recall to fix a possible problem with the power steering hose clamp. The car had no problems whatsoever before bringing it to the dealer. Hbl performed the recall work and they actually made it worse. The hose clamp was installed improperly which led to power steering failure while my wife was driving on the freeway. We had roadside assistance refill the power steering fluid and tried to get in touch with hbl to get it fixed yet again. After a few days, I finally got them to look at the car. They again tried to replace the clamp in sept. 2003. Yesterday, Nov. 25, 2003, my wife was driving to work and lost power steering again.
