Mercedes Benz ML350 owners have reported 11 problems related to brake light (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The back gate lights on Ml350 stopped working. According to mercedes dealership, the back light(brake lights) assemblies are all corroded and need to be replaced. I asked how is this possible and they stated that they didn't know and that there was no water damage. I have also had front light issues as well, with bulbs burning out frequently. The light assembly wiring is defective. Mercedes dealership is having me pay to replace the light assemblies even though this must be some sort of defect.

Faulty wiring in the brake light harness that could cause fire. Wiring commonly arcs causing the bulbs to burn out and could potentially cause a fire. Mercedes has other cars with this same problem, but won't address it on the Ml350s. They even made a part to correct this problem, but demand car owners pay out of pocket to fix mercedes faulty wiring problem.

Brake lights & rear tail gate malfunction after running car through car wash. The problems self-correct after a couple of days. Suspect that water is somehow getting in via faulty seals. There are multiple complaints about similar issues and mbenz has even issued recalls for other models. In one recall, the problem is noted to potentially cause a fire. Although dealer is aware of this problem, the boerne, TX service rep has no interest in investigating the matter further unless, knowing others have similar issues, unless I pay for the service. Hope we don't earn a ticket or cause an accident.

I just purchased a 2006 mercedes Ml350. Ive had problems opening the trunk and the upper left and right brake lights do not work. Bulbs were replaced and still they're not working. Bulb contacts are known to burn up causing a needed update for the tail/brake lamp wiring repair harness and bulb sockets. Found a forum where a technician is aware of this issue with this vehicle. "takata recall". In house wiring,3rd brake light, turn markers ,brake lights all non operational. Taken to dealership problem still occurs!.
Rear left brake light keep failing, the bulb is fine. Have to take out socket and put it back in, this keeps happening over and over. Was told the hole light assembly needs to be replaced. No one can seem to say why this keep happening. This can happen at any time in motion, on the highway, turning.
Purchased car used in February 2015, had to replace right brake light bulb three times within three months. Dealership had to replace the wire harness on both taillights as the contacts on the brake light sockets (both sides) were defective. The c230 model had been recalled for this very problem, however, the Ml350 was not included in the recall. I would advise the NHTSA to see if other models of the mercedes have been having this problem to avoid rear end accidents when brakes fail. The car is only five years old, and has not been in an area that should cause erosion of failure of both wiring harnesses.
The right brake light sensor gave a warning that the brake lamp needs replacing. While making arrangements to replace, the left brake light began to malfunction and also needed replacement. Since both led brake lights failed within 3 months it seems to be a systemic problem with Mercedes Benz led lights. I reported the problem to Mercedes Benz USA and was told the vehicle is out of warranty but they would call the local dealer on my behalf and speak with the manager to see if there was anything that could be done. We replaced both rear light assemblies at a cost of $832. 44 at the dealership in danbury. Mb of danbury reduced the labor charge by a small percentage. I have zero confidence that this will not happen again during the life of the vehicle.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 mercedes-benz Ml350. The contact stated while driving at an unknow speed, the exterior light warning message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the brake light bulb was replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to park place motorcars mercedes-benz dallas (113 lemmon Ave, dallas, TX 75209; (214) 736-5753) where the contact was informed that the rear passenger's side brake light harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred on the driver's side and the contact was informed that the driver's side rear brake light wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Please note that on the Ml350 with led lights there seem to be a major issue with light replacements. While driving my car states that the brake light is broken. Brought it to the dealer they state that there is no bulb replacement. You have to replace the entire tail lamp for 545. 00 . I think this is crazy just for a blown bulb, mercedes did not design the led tail lamp bulb to be replaceable. I think the maker is an ass to design the tail lamp that way. I think this unfair practice and hope someone investigates.
