2 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

The led tail lights are failing. My assessment on this issue is that water and debris are entering the tail light due to a gasket or seal that is failing. Dealer and mercedes does not want to help, and have told me they will no longer respond to my emails. Im getting the run around. Its clearly a safety defect/hazard, based on transport canada. This happens with no warning, until enough led's are out the message turned on.

3 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

Owner had arrived home at 7:00 p. M. From work and was inside his residence. At 10:00 p. M. Police and fire personnel came to his door to inform him that his car was on fire. One resident said that, as he was walking in the parking lot, he noticed there was fire in the passenger side rear tail light (around 10:00 pm) and when he looked inside, there was fire in the vehicle directly behind the rear tail light. He ran for a fire extinguisher and also yelled for help and for someone to call 911 for the fire department. Both fire and police arrived. Car had not been driven for 3 hours and was parked, was driven only 7 miles three hours earlier with no stops. Car has been considered totaled by insurance due to the amount of damage incurred and had been owned for only one year, serviced regularly by Mercedes Benz, and all recalls had been up-to-date! the servicing mercedes dealership promptly informed Mercedes Benz USA who also promptly contacted the owner to fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit pictures for review. This paperwork/pictures were also promptly submitted. However, due to the seriousness of this fire and possible loss of life and property that could have been catastrophic, this report is also being sent to your agency for follow-up. (note that there was a recall on the tail lights in the Ml350 for possible fire for 2007 and years above, but not the year of this vehicle, 2006. A similar problem is reported in the c-class automobiles and may be more widespread than previously thought).

5 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I have a 2006 me/be Ml350 where the tail lights and stop lights don't work properly. This is a safety issue. The system goes into back up mode where another set of lights go on, this causes the computer to give false messages. The dealer wants over $300 for a "rewiring kit" and the manufacturer will not help. I feel the tail lights/stop light wiring should last the life of the car, which has not been in an accident or misused. A rewiring kit tells me this is a known problem. I found NHTSA # 10028025 which relates to this problem but I've had no luck with the manufacturer or the dealer. My question is-does this TSB apply to my car and what can I do? thank you.

6 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 03/27/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes Benz Ml350. The contact stated that the brake light failed while driving 65 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnosis and located the failure as the tail light socket ground wiring connections as faulty. The dealer replaced the socket with and upgraded socket kit. In addition, the contact was experiencing transmission failures when downshifting at highway speeds and attempting to up shift the gear. The dealer advised that the transmission failure could be corrected by installing updated software. The transmission was not repaired. The failure mileage was 53,630 and the current mileage was 53,678. Updated 5/24/11.

7 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/29/2010

We have a 2007 Mercedes Benz Ml350 and just bought the extended new car warranty for an additional $4500. It was raining and the alarm on the car went off, all the lights in the car stopped working and the rear lft gate stopped working as well as rear locks. The dealership finally diagnosed the problem after 3 days and stated that is because the rear tail light is allowing water in and that it compromised/ruined the power lift gate control unit. This is the same problem that you issued a recall for with the 2009 Ml350 with recall id # 09v076000: a faulty seal around the rear tail lamp assembly, water may enter the rear compartment containing the spare tire. Water contamination of the control unit for the power lift gate can result in disabling of the power lift gate motor. Consequences: water will cause a short circuit which could lead to a fire. The dealership (Mercedes Benz of tampa) agrees that this should be covered by Mercedes Benz USA but Mercedes Benz USA will only fix the tail light but will not pay for the cost of relocating a new power lift gate unit (as outlined in your recall notice for the 2009 model). The dealership has noted several instances where the 2007 Ml350 suffered the same problem. Mot only do I believe there should be a separate recall for 2007 models but quite possibly for 2007-2009 models since the problem existed back in 2007 and still nothing was done. Many more families are at risk. This issue disabled my car and could have happened while we were driving since it also affected the battery too.
